Calling All Substitute Teachers!!

Hi

I have been substitute teaching for the last 5 years and really enjoy what I am doing!! I currently sub in a district that is special needs pre-k through reg. ed. 8th grade. Have done high school in the past but taking a break from it.

To all fellow subs - any "tricks or ideas" (either a worksheet, game or whatever) that you bring to the classroom that are sure hits with the kids and keeps them engaged with you?

I'm always upbeat and try to be firm, but fair when their is an issue. Greeting with big smiles and hi-fives when a good job is done! Lot's of energy and positive feedback.

I haven't had to use anything out of my goody-bag for a long time. The teachers were I work are great and I have wonderful plans. I feel it's very important to follow them the best I can and it's always appreciated (plus I get asked back all the time because I try to follow what they want)

I'm off to teach first graders today!!

Let me clarify.........where I work the lesson plans are great also!! But there are times when there are "fillers" (like Scholastic News) during the day that I know the teacher doesn't mind if I do something else with them. OR if the teacher allotted too much time for a subject and I need to "fill" about 15 minutes.

So just looking to "fill" those times with something else.

Off to sub for a 3rd/4th multi age room!!

Math games are fun

Scattergories is fun (blackboard/white board version)

Reading to them. I think I must read really well, because I can get even the most unruly 6th graders to sit and listen and get excited about the book I am reading!
