Calling all spq experts . . .

I have read the mammoth spg thread and I know there are experts lurking out there, I hope you can tell me if I am doing this right.

I have a reservation at the Swan for September ($99 labor rate with free lake view upgrade). I got my spg card, I then got my platinum amex. I called Starwood and they just upgraded me to gold status. I emailed from the swandolphin site (using the special request function) that I had a lake view room and would like an upgrade to club level. So, what do I do now?

Do I also put the request on the spg site? I am inclined to do nothing and just wait until we get to the hotel to ask again. Frankly, I will be happy with my $99 lake view room, but the trip would be even more special if I could get the club level.

What do you think?

Thanks.

You've done everything perfectly. You do not need to put a request on spg - all requests are handled by the resort. Did you include your spg gold# when you e mailed the Swan? If not, call and attached it to your reservation. Now, just wait. When you check in, ask again in the most polite and humble way you can muster! You most likely will get an upgrade b/c you are Gold! Good luck. :)

Yes, I included my SPG # and reservation # when I emailed the Swan. I will practice my sweet smile and humble look and keep my fingers crossed that it works. A little pixie dust might not hurt either!

Thanks for your help.

I had called Starwood Points redeem number for my trip in December. They told me that I had more than enough points to do the balcony room with club level access. They told me to just call them back 5 days before arrival, and then the requests would be verified and put in the system to The Swan.

So.....you might want to call 5 days before arrival to double-check.

we have a balcony resort room booked--how many *wood points per night is it for Club Level access? I have heard several different amounts--I am furiously trying to accumulate enough just in case my SPG Gold status won't get me a complimentary upgrade :)

It seems the 1500 points is the charge of choice lately. It should be the lower level from the descriptions on spg.com but I know several recently had 1500 for their cost.

thanks, jgates! not the number I wanted to hear...I was hoping for 1000 points. this is my first trip with SPG gold status, going at a slow time....wondering what the chances of getting CL access comped are? I put the request in through www.spg.com and www.swandolphin.com :) is that enough?

one other question--how long does it take points from a stay to post to the SPG account? we might book a stay at a Starwood property the night before our flight--I would be getting stay points, the AmEx bonus, online booking credit and AAA points. www.starwood.com/aaa (for details) a little over 2000 points for one night's stay....that would definitely push me over the top for my points, IF they post fast enough.

thanks again :)

so if it's 1500 points to upgrade to CL. How much is it to upgrade to a balcony room?
