Okay, this is for my southern people. I'm wondering (i can't remember) if the restaurants at disney will know what I mean when I ask for 'sweet tea'? Florida is in the south but since disney is kind of a world of it's own, I don't assume that they serve sweet tea. Thanks!

Are there resturants that don't serve sweet tea? Being from New Orleans I find this very upsetting!!

Seriously, I don't remember many other resturants having it available.

This Wisconsin Girl got a hold of a recipe for Sweet Tea on the interwebz and I love it.

Most places at Disney serve Nestea, which is nothing like what you're looking for. I think there are a few TS locations that brew proper sweet tea, I hope that someone is along shortly to tell us where you get it.

Love that! I've known a few people that live here in atlanta who are originally from the northern states that LOVE sweet tea. Thanks to mcdonalds, our delicacy is being spread to everywhere in the country!

Having lived in Georgia my whole life, I grew up drinking sweet tea at breakfast, lunch and dinner. I try to not drink too much sugar now, so I only have it occasionally. I can drink unsweetened tea without add ins but for vacation, I'd rather have the real stuff.

DH quit asking for sweet tea two days into our trip. Many places offered sweetened tea but it is no where close to what most southerners consider sweet tea.

No where. :( WDW is Yankee territory in that regard, sadly.

Even worse, they now offer "sweet tea" but it is all from Gold Peak and tastes almost as bad as China Mist, which is the absolute worst tasting crap I've ever had in my mouth. At least Gold Peak doesn't make you want to immediately spit it all back out. Barely.

As for fresh brewed tea with real sugar mixed in while the tea is hot and then chilled? Nope.

And you'll be right. You won't find brewed sweet tea anywhere. It's going to be Gold Peak or Nestea, so I wouldn't bother ordering tea at all. At least they have Coke!

Nope. No sweet tea at Disney. However, the McDonald's by Animal Kingdom has a really good sweet tea. I like it as much as Chickfila's!

I have to agree with everyone. The sweet tea at Disney is terrible. I did better asking for unsweet and adding sugar.

I can't remember where it was but there was one restaurant in Disney that actually did have sweet tea when we were there earlier this month. I wish I could remember which one.

We are from Louisiana and are accustomed to having sweet tea. We learned years ago from one really nice waitress that we needed to order an Arnold Palmer. It's about 2/3 tea and 1/3 lemonade. It sweetens your tea and gives it a lemony taste but not too lemony. Now, whenever we eat at a Disney restaurant, we ask for an Arnold Palmer and everybody knows what it is.

thanks very much for all your replies! I had a feeling that 'sweet tea' doesn't exist in disney the way it does in the south. I guess I'll be sticking with coke!!

ROFLMAO! I don't mean to laugh, but you're the second Yankee I've heard mention getting a "recipe" for sweet tea. LOL! I swear to goodness I didn't know that there was a "recipe" for sweet tea!

Recipe: Brew tea from scratch and add sugar to taste. ;)

BTW - I live in MN now (Oklahoma girl transplanted in Minnesota 18 years ago) and it's only been very recently that MN people started even using the term sweet tea. LOL

No worries, I can laugh at myself too. :lmao:

I started on Recipezaar, and worked from the recipe there. http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/Southern-Sweet-Iced-Tea-63785 was my base, and then I played with the sugar. The baking soda was the thing that I thought was the Southern 'trick' Could well be that the entire south laughs at me. (and I am ok with that)

I even cheat sometimes and use Splenda for a similar taste without all the calories. :rolleyes1 (not very Southern of me ;))

(We used to make sun tea, and then add sugar to taste. The end result is quite different than the tea in the recipe. In my defense though, I've always had the God given sense to not like Nestea!)

A recipe for sweet tea just cracks me up! :lmao: Sadly, WDW has no idea how to make it. We will be going to McDonalds or Chick Fil A to buy a gallon for the cooler. ;)

I don't know anybody who makes sweet tea with baking soda. I might actually try it, once. I do make my sweet tea with splenda mostly because we drink tons of it. Back to original topic, we quit looking for it. Like a pp, we found it once and I can't remember where.

As a southerner who has also lived in Georgia most of my life, I find this thread hilarious. Especially the baking soda.

I have never heard of putting baking soda in sweet tea. What does that do?

Baking soda? Is that a joke?

I also am thinking there used to be somewhere at Disney that did sweet tea -- just can't remember where.

It's not a joke. Baking soda chemically alters the tannins in brewed black tea and cuts down on the bitterness, so you can make it very strong and it still won't be bitter.
