Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

i know i've been a nay-sayer about the race retreat here and other places, based on my experience with it last time, but i decided to go ahead and buy it for my aunt and me. she gets way nervous about the bathrooms, and i was looking at my photos from 2011 when we waited with the masses for the port-a-potties and decided it was better for her to have the RR bathrooms pre-race than to shun the RR because we had previously a poor experience post-race! (it wasn't really a bad experience.. i just was put off by a chearsquad family who eyeballed me for not moving when they sat at the table i was already sitting at. i still wish there was a separate RR for runners only, but i digress.)

the ten-minute $10 massages and knowing we aren't getting massages at one of the spas afterwards might have had something to do with my decision too. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if there will be a RunDisney meetup for Princess 1/2 Marathon weekend? I've seen people post about them before but I'm not sure how to find out about them.

This is really really great advice - thank you. I'm going to set up an appointment with a podiatrist asap. We've got a huge ortho practice here - there are a few podiatrists on staff there, and with them working pretty closely together (along with physio, too), I should have a pretty good chance of getting what I need. Love the Galloway guidance on building walking in to fill the training gaps - definitely doing this. :thumbsup2
You're welcome, and good luck - sending good thoughts for an easily-remedied diagnosis!

way to go! nothing better than going into it knowing you'll be just fine :cool1:
Right?! Thanks! :goodvibes

I got sucked into RR again, too, after saying "nope, never again"! :rotfl:

The meet-up may be changing quite a bit from here on out - here's the latest for the Disneyland Half: http://www.rundisney.com/disneyland-half-marathon/#runners-welcome

It's pay-to-play now. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same for PHM. Best place to hear about it is Twitter - follow @runDisney.

Do I need this? I hadn't really thought about it but the private bathrooms sound so appealing.
I doubt I'd use it post race, but my pre-race jitters are getting the best of me.

I have never done the retreat. This will be my 6th PH. Last year I got off the bus (resort to race) and walked right into a porta-bathroom…no line! And they were calling each corral so walking to corrals was much easier. And once in your corral there is still a long wait and the best place "to go" is in the bushes…just jump the fence and use nature.

I just finished reading this thread and the the first thread, and I am amazed that this is such a supportive, encouraging group! I really feel like I know everyone here (even though you are just now meeting me). Thanks to you all, I have found my iGlowRunning costume, FlipBelt, Dooney pre-purchase link, and encouragement. I can completely relate to everyone here since throughout my running journey I too have felt discouraged and elated, lazy and determined, sore and soarin', and COMPLETELY excited but a little anxious.

I am 30 years old (31 in 2 days), and I had never run before my sister-in-law talked me into signing up for the PHM back in July. My mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I started training in August/ September using a modified version of Jeff Galloway's training plan. None of us had ever run before, but we wanted to try to accomplish "an impossible task." As a lifetime member of WeightWatchers (I lost 30 pounds but have gained 12 back since running) and an asthmatic (I love Singluair), I never thought I could run a 5K let-alone a half marathon until I found out about the walk-run method.

What I love about running is that it's so transformative. Having a plan and trusting it has really helped me see that, not only can I finish this half marathon--I can actually enjoy it. I used to see running as something painful, boring, and even torturous, but now I see it as a way to measure my own growth and determination. This group has helped with that. Sure, it started out for me as excitement about a costume, a purse, and a girls-only weekend at Disney, but this race has become so much more.

I may still be mildly anxious about some things that are out of my control (crowds, sweepers, being able to stop for pictures, POFQ's pool being closed), but I am SO excited to run this race! And I am really excited about getting to know all of you better throughout the next few weeks (Wow, it's not even a full month) and about meeting everyone before the race at the "W" tent!

BTW, this asthmatic's up to 12 miles. :woohoo: (run/ walking 30:30, but still happy about that) princess:

Very nice sentiment. Welcome to the group!

Thanks for the welcome. :flower3:

Can't wait for corrals to come out even though we didn't submit time proof and just estimated 3:15! I wonder where that will get us and how many corrals there will be.

:hourglass

When do we find out corral assignments? I know I'll be in the last one; I was just surprised by the bib number if that's how they're doing it.

Does anyone have experience with this? This is my first half marathon, but I plan on running the entire thing (been running for years and am also training for it), but was wondering if anyone attempted touring the park the day before the race. If so which one is the smallest? MGM?

Thanks!

From one asthmatic "tortured" runner to another... Welcome to the wonderful world of runDisney! Seriously, runDisney changed my life and I'm so so grateful!

:) so happy to have found this group of Disney WISH fanatics!

are the bib numbers grouped by corral? My DD and I are running together and we both submitted 10K proof of time that are very close to each other, but have vastly different bib numbers:confused3
