Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Wow- that was humid. I took it slowish, trying to save my legs but I can tell I've spent too much time on the treadmill vs the road. My ankles are protesting! Nothing I could do about it with the weather this winter though.

It was a fun and well-organized Disney race! I really enjoyed the world showcase and boardwalk times, if only I didn't feel like a slimy mess!

DS had a fun kids race and I'm headed back to rest while they hit the parks! I'm seriously thinking I was crazy to sign up for the GSC but I'm sure next week ill be so happy. They have a cool "wall" in the middle of the reunion area that has all the inaugural GSC people's names on it.

Still debating the tutu. I spent much of the 10k asking myself how I'd be feeling if I had a tutu on. I was soaked by the time I was done. I don't know if everyone sweats as much as I do but I nearly jumped in storm along bay bc I felt so nasty! So so SO glad I checked a bag w a change of clothes.

Lots of great costumes today and really cheerful volunteers.

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

And remember that when its humid, you need to replace the electrolytes you're sweating out too, not just drink tons of water. Drink too, but don't forget the electrolytes.

With humidity so high no sweat evapotes like in drier climate so we feel even slimmier.

I've go to pull myself out of this bed. It is so peaceful asnI had made this trip solo.

Exactly! I've never in my life had my garmin watch sliding up and down my wrist. Ick!!!

I am a sweater for sure! Could not wait to get back to my room for a shower!

The humidity!!! It's so wet!

I was at the expo this morning (10:30-ish) and they had restocked the C2C pink shirts. Lots of small and medium.

I'm doing the 10k tomorrow! (Currently too excited to sleep!) Doing it as part of the GSC but my sister and I will be writing a tr of the whole weekend, I'll post a link in here when we get started on it :)

Yay! I'll be keeping my eye put for it! Hope you had a blast this morning!:cool1:

As noted, it was a humid race today. So it took a toll on my feet and the rest of me!

My strategy for this weekend was to race today and run tomorrow--weather be damned. My hope was to place in my age group--which I have never done at Disney before.

I missed finding anyone at the start. I didn't realize the bag check wasn't near the corral area for the 10k and so ended up by the corrals. I was in A and it never seemed to fill up. I went up to the front, but was able to leave and come back to make a portal potty stop. And let me say that the PP situation seemed great for this race. Hardly any lines.

They walked our corral up to the start line, around the corner, and you had to go by all the other corrals. Everyone was cheering, so it was rather neat. I did finally run into one WISHer in my corral and we chatted before the start.

As for the race, I went out fairly fast and slowly but surely lost time. Physical and mental challenge, and 10k is not my favorite distance. The course was nothing special, to be honest. 3+ miles before you get into Epcot, not much in the way of stuff on the course--the "snow" was a nice touch. (And here you'd think I'd be tired of it!)

Water only, no Powered. Not a big deal--but was that in the program? It's just that on hot, humid days, it would be nice to have Powerade.

Got some WISH love at BW and at BC. I wish that when we entered Epcot for the 2nd time we had come through World Showcase again instead of more behind the scenes before we got in through Future World.

Finished over my goal time, but with the weather, that's unsurprising. But....I did place 2nd in my age group.

Got my stuff, hung around for awhile, but didn't' see anyone else. Hope to catch up with people tomorrow before the race.

Tomorrow I trot around the course.

Good luck to everyone.

I liked this 10k SOO much better than the WDW 10K- It just flowed much better- thought there was ample characters along the course (really liked the Elsa part) wish there wouldve been more 'non character' entertainment but eh-

Humidity kicked even my central florida tush- so ended up 3+ min above my 'goal time' but 3.5 min under my 10K PR so not complaining.. Slowed down a bit more than I was expecting as I felt with the humidity I was pushing myself too hard esp with tomorrow to go-

Could tell quite a few 'corral liars' but since there wasnt proof of time required could see that (know several of them personally- so felt good to pass several 'corral A's between the 1-2 mile marker...)

Realize that I shouldnt sign up for 3 races in 3 days as I am so tired of getting up at ungawdly hours of the night...

I forgot about Elsa and the snow! I looked up at her as I got closer and bam! "Snow" in the eye! I thought that was a cool feature tho! Definitely different.

Did anyone else see the "fog" that was laying on the lake by the boardwalk area? It made it really sink in how humid it was. But I actually thought the boardwalk part was a bit cooler in temp for me. Not sure if it was time or environment.

I feel much better after my nap and ice bath. I cannot recommend that ice bath enough. My knee is making a strange noise and uncomfortable. I really hope it doesn't turn into something. I would be so sad to not get my GSC or C2C....

I'll be doing my own ice bath tonight. Haven't done any races, but this park touring has taken a toll on my feet and knees. Hoping that and an early bedtime will serve me well.

See you in the morning! :)

Ice bath - check but why did I pick a boardwalk room?? So noisy - haven't slept more than 4 hrs...yikes - come on adrenaline - in gonna need you!

I'm here!! We didn't do any parks yesterday. We left at midnight to drive down (Thursday/Friday) and went straight to the expo. Arrived about 9:30am. Went to a few resorts on the monorail and passed out last night at 9. Going to expo again to try and look at the booths. Yesterday got so crowded and my anxiety level rose way high. Had to get out of there!! Where are you staying?
we are at boardwalk - super noisy!! What was I thinking?
I'll be in Minnie sparkle with a rose punned to my shirt.

I will be in a pink shirt and purple pants, with a pink Sparkle Athletics tiara visor. I'm sorry I missed the meet! Maybe I will see some of you tomorrow! Good night ladies!

I'll be in a yellow sparkle skirt with a sparkle blue headband - Belle in both of her outfits. :) If it's chilly, I'll have a hot pink half zip on to start. (It was all I could find on clearance!) Plus a very bright yellow cap if it's raining and later when it's sunny.

Leaving from ASMo at around 3:30. Race Retreat and corral M. See you there!

Laying in bed watching Mickey cartoons. My feet hurt, my belly hurts and my quads have been in pain since mile 8. Saw the ballon ladies around mile 9 or so...on other side of road...and walkers Behring them :scared1:

Just got back to my room at CR. Got another one finished! It was very humid, at least for this Oregon girl. I ended up walking a large portion of this race. I did the princess 2 years ago and today I was 22 minutes slower! It happens. There are good ones and bad ones. I have back to back halfs in 6 days so I didn't mind walking more today.

Course support was fantastic, it always is. I remember there being more characters a couple years ago? I didn't stop for any of them. I will say that out of 17 halfs and 50 plus races this was the worst runners etiquette that I've seen. I was blown away. I'm used to getting bumped around a bit, it happens. But full on body checking people, cutting in front of people so close that you step on the backs of their feet, no "on your left" at all. Walkers 5 across in very narrow areas right in the middle. One gal I said "on your left" to said back "why do you get to go around, I don't like people in front of me either". I responded with "then get faster".

Just crazy rude people today. Maybe it was the humidity? This also was the most passed out and puking I've seen on a course. All in all, it was ok, not sure I will do princess again. Still got some more bling to add to the collection! Hope you all had a great race!

Kappyfamily...Not sure what corral you started in, but from corral c I had no issues with rude people or walkers, hey I walked some. The course never seemed crowded even in narrow areas.
BTW- love your response to rude princess

The volunteers are amazing

We experienced the rudeness as well! I said a few things back to people as well!! I didn't realize how many people walked! There were times we had to walk because it was exhausting trying to run around people. I ran in the grass a lot!! But overall, I had a great time!! Getting ready to hit the parks!!

Wow, I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience with other runners! Maybe it was the spot I was in, but I was commenting to my DSis on the bus home that I was amazed at how nice all the other runners were and how much great race etiquette there was! (I was kind of expecting the worst...)

For the most part, people didn't crowd each other, did let people pass, and looked behind them before pulling off to the side to take pictures. There weren't a ton of walkers around me, but 90% of them moved to the edges, and mostly the right side. Everyone I bumped into apologized/happily accepted my apology. It got a little rough at the later water stops, as people got tired I think they forgot to try to watch traffic before putting on the brakes...but either way I had to mention my better experience because I saw a LOT of princesses who went out of their way to look out for other people!

Overall, I was THRILLED with the race. I wish there had been more entertainment in the last 3 miles, but all the character stops prior to that were great. I think we stopped for all picture opportunities except 4 or 5, and never waited in a line more than 6 or 7 people deep (the ones we skipped had the super long lines-villians, mickey/minnie/princess and princes/mary poppins). Definitely the most fun race I have ever run...well, this and the 10k!

I think after reading so much about past races, I had rather low expectations based on crowds, ect, and I was pleasantly surprised at how run disney handled everyone and how smoothly it ran. There were some minor hiccups...had bus issues yesterday morning, and the runner tracking today (thankfully I had nobody trying to find me so it didn't really affect me) but overall it was an amazing experience!!

The volunteers are amazing

Maybe that was my experience too-we were in E and I agree about the people/crowds. We even ran right through the castle with no crowding, I had expected to have to kind of shuffle through there.

The volunteers/character attendants/characters were awesome and I tried to thank as many as possible!!
