Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Great costume, Tropical Wilds! Love it!!!

For the first time, I tried running with a Fuel Belt - was so worried I would hate it because many of you have mentioned how annoying it can be if the water bottles are bouncing around or even riding up. Fortunately, I did not have this issue - my friend (who I borrowed it from) told me to wear it pretty high up so I think this minimized the bouncing/riding up.

I love my Fuel Belt! Totally running with it during the race! And, yeah, I wear it higher up and have no problems with it since I am able to ignore it after the first mile. I also worry about the heat and humidity, so I say go for it!

So I'm sure some folks have seen this already, so forgive my multiple site bragging... I'm just really proud of how it came out, and I hope people will see me at the race, recognize me, and say hi, LoL! But here's my 97% of the way finished costume for the PHM (Princess Anna's coronation outfit):

I still have some little details to finish up, but nothing major. Really pumped about how it came out, so much so my son and I may have danced around the living room singing "For the First Time in Forever." LoL!

That is absolutely gorgeous. I will be watching for you!

Tybalt, you are awesome for running at the gym in costume! I would have been right there with you!

Tropical Wilds...beautiful costume! You are very talented! I hope I spot you in person!

Thanks everyone for setting my mind at ease about the hills. That was the last thing I was concerned about, besides the unpredictable weather!

I am really going to try I get to the meet. I hope I get to see a lot of you!

Does anyone know what the PHM commemorative necklace looks like? Have they been nice in previous years? Also how do you preorder anything? The link that I have still shows the Marathon items.
Thank you

Okay experienced racers, I just thought of a question. I am heading to Target and one of the items on my list is hopefully a sweatshirt from the clearance section for a throwaway. But, my question is, if this in my plan, what do I do with my race number? If its pinned to the sweatshirt I'd have to unpin and repin to my tank. But if its on my tank, it would not be visible under my sweatshirt. I have a fuel belt I intend to wear for the half, and I could buy something to attach it to that, but I'm afraid that it will be annoying then to get at my pouch on the belt that will hold my fuel and other supplies.

There is probably an easy answer to this, but I my nerves are really start to mess with my mind and I am not thinking of it :confused3

Just pin it to your running top and wear your throwaway clothes on top. You can lift up your sweatshirt to show your bib to get into your corral.

:thumbsup2

If you want to attach your bib to your fuel belt, you can always use the safety pins to pin it on. I've done that for a few races; a pin in each top corner of the bib, attached to the bottom of my belt, under the pouch. No need to buy anything to attach it!

I thought I read it had to be visible at all times, so I thought wearing it under the sweatshirt would be unacceptable. This sure makes things easier!

I don't know how to multi quote from the app, so I only listed the first reply. But thanks for all the suggestions.

Slightly off topic, but are any other princesses signing up for the ToT 10 Miler?

I haven't even done my first race yet and I've clearly been bit by the runDisney bug, someone lock up my credit card please! :rotfl:

I think as long as the number is accessible for getting into the corral, it's fine. For me, throwaway clothes are gone by the time I cross the start line - if you plan to run a significant portion of the race still in the sweatshirt, I would suggest either wearing the number lower or on a race belt.

This is a good point. It is 5 degrees here today, and I'm used to running in teens and 20s, so I may want to ditch the sweatshirt right before the actual start. Guess we will see what the weather forecast is.

Not this year - I'm trying to take some time off rD... But I know I'm going to be tempted when they open up W&D registration. I would love to do a 10-mile race instead, but the TOT weekend timing doesn't work for us due to work schedules.

Yep - I swore I was done after doing it the last two years, but somehow found myself registering within 5 minutes of it opening to passholders last week. :rotfl2:

See above. ;)

Ok ladies, quick question for anyone doing the GSC and who might also have kids in the kids race after. After my last long run, I took my first ever "ice bath." Now, it wasn't exactly an ice bath, more like, very cold water bath up to my knees. I was still hurting an hour or two after my run, but the next day I couldn't believe how well I felt! So I'm thinking I should definitely add this into my recovery plan - especially when I have to run back-to-back.

But how do I do that when I have the 10k on Saturday morning (figure I'll finish between 7-7:15), and DS has a kids race (200 yd dash) at 9:15? Is it still effective if I soak 3 hours after I finish? Or should I just grab some ice at the self-med table after the race instead? Lately it's my ankles and shins that have been sore after my run, so that's really all I'm looking to cool down I guess.
