Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess half marathon board)

I plan to do the princess 10k and I am thinking of doing a race prior so I can submit a time. What is a respectable time to get me out of the last group? Would any time do that since most people do not submit a time or what's the time to beat?

Also, I'm thinking of staying at Coronado since it seems most activities will be there but then I thought about Boardwalk since it's right next to EPCOT where the run starts. Any suggestions on which would be best?

Thanks!

I tried doing a search but can't find the info, whats the last day to submit times for corral placement? I know they changed the rules just trying to find a 10k to run in time.

I know they changed the "rules" for the WDW Marathon weekend in January. However, the race details for the Princess has not yet been updated. They still have a 12/1 date in there from 2012. I'd imagine it would be about the same but 2013.

Expo was moved to Coronado this year due to an Angels Spring Training game conflict at Wide World of Sports...and I think the majority opinion (myself included) was that was a disaster! Barring any schedule conflicts, I wouldn't assume that the expo activities will be at Coronado again. Honestly, I wish there was a better place than WWoS too because it's always so crowded in there as well, but Coronado was just ridiculous!

::yes:: I have some choice words for the fiasco that was the 2013 Expo at CSR... they're not fit for the DIS. ;) I seriously doubt they'll hold it there again unless they have no other choice. And with the addition of the 10K/Challenge, I'm betting the Princess Expos will be priority #1 for space in 2014.

I emailed runDisney about this and they said that registration for the PHM opens on June 11th and sometime within the month before they will be announcing the proof of time requirements, including the deadline for submission. Right now, what we know for sure is that the deadline for the WDW Marathon weekend is November 1st, so presumably for the PHM it would be about a month later, but we should have concrete information soon.

Thx!!! I was worried that I would have to do our local August 10k!!!! We don't have many 10ks here and the middle of August is not the best time to try and PR for better corral placement ;( At least I know I can try and find a fall race. Sounds much more appealing :)

I think I need to buy some compression socks as I've been having ankle and shin pain while running for the past couple of weeks. I've been looking at them online, but am unsure of what brand and what size to purchase. I have large calves (18.5-19") but only wear a size 8/8.5 shoe. If I go by calf size, I'm in the largest mens sock, but if I go by shoe size I worry that they won't fit my calves. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure compression sleeves/socks will help with ankle pain. They will help with calf support and shin splint pain. Were you fitted for the shoes you are currently using for running? Have they reached a breakdown point? If you're worried about sizing you may want to start with compression sleeves. This way you can still wear your favorite and tested running socks. Also, avoid white!

I agree...check out compression sleeves instead of socks. I can't wear the socks because they are too tall for my short legs and stretch above my knee, but I find that the sleeves work great. The brand I use is CEP.

Yeah I have a hard time finding 10K's around my hometown too!

Even though you might not PR in August, it might still be good to do that 10K, just for practice :thumbsup2 I'm doing 2- 10K's this summer- 1 on the 4th of July and 1 in August :upsidedow I guess I like to sweat!! LOL

Hmm. A couple of the brands describe their socks as helping with ankle support as well. Of course, if they don't fit my calves, then they won't help anything. :)

I was not fitted for my current shoes and have been in them about a month (I've only been running for two months). I will try the sleeves and see how those work. I suppose I could get some ankle braces in addition to those.

Thanks!

you should really consider being fitted for the right shoes by someone at a running store...it's so worth the time. if you aren't in the right shoe it will cause a whole host of pains/problems/injuries from the foot all the way up. The right shoe makes all the difference. I'd recommend doing that before I started using a brace.

100% agree. Go get fitted at a running store. Improper shoes will result in injuries.

I agree about the fitting as well. I could never run regularly due to foot pain and shin splints, then I went to an awesome running store a friend recommended. They watched me run then had me try on a few different pairs, watched again, then listened to my feedback and made additional recommendations. I loved my new shoes and was able to run twice as far and twice as long! Get fitted - Huge difference:)

I agree. After years of foot problems, it changed my life.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I'd heard of doing this, but never really understood it I guess (new runner mistake I suppose). I know there's at least one store in my town that does this so I'm definitely going to stop by. The only concern I have is that I have my 1st 5K coming up in 2 weeks and I'm not sure if that will be enough time to break new shoes in.

Plenty of time. Good shoes which fit right don't need a breaking in period. You certainly don't want to wear them for the first time on race day but you'll only need a few runs to adjust. More than likely you'll feel like you're running on clouds or cotton candy (at first).

Good to know! I'm going to try to go by this weekend. :)

Definitely. You'll find that it's better, not worse at first.

I agree, I never understood the whole breaking in thing...if I'm in the right shoe, it never feels better than straight out of the box! But definitely until you know, I wouldn't wear them for the first time on race day :). Now I want new shoes!
