Looking to do a first ever stay here this Dec. 9-15. Am leaning toward requesting the Tahiti longhouse due to the somewhat larger rooms and proximity to the TTC (disntance to the GCH is not going to be an issue, we just finished a trip at CSR in the Ranchos - any walking distance within the Poly has got to be a lot shorter than that!).

A couple of questions:

(1) What do you think my chances are of getting a room in Tahiti if I book my reservation and make my request within the next month or so?

(2) Does what type of view I book affect the likelihood of my longhouse request being granted (i.e., am I more likely to get my longhouse request if I book garden view versus lagoon or theme park view, vice-versa, or does it matter?)

(3) If I seek to apply a discount that comes along down the road (e.g, AP room discount, etc.), will that negatively affect my chances of my longhouse request being granted (assuming I can apply the discount in the first place)?

(4) Assuming I'm in a longhouse close to the TTC, would you recommend going to HS and AK on the TTC or Poly buses? In that regard, do the TTC buses run early for character breakfasts (e.g., if I have an 8 am ADR at Tusker House)?

Thanks in advance.

We have had many, many stays at the Poly. We may have just been very lucky, but we have always had our requests met. I have always had some type of discount so I don't think that makes any difference if a request is met. I can't really comment on the buses. We hate the buses and haven't used them in several years. The Poly is a wonderful resort!

If you want Tahiti you should ask for Theme park view but I don't think it affects what house you get. I THINK Hawaii is concierge only so Tahiti is the only other place they can put you and give you a view of the park. But don't quote me on that. Room requests are never a sure thing but worth a shot. You can request a garden view and still get a house close to TTC. I love Tokelau. You just need to work it out at check in. Tell them you want a room AWAY from the pools, that might work too. That way they won't put you in Samoa or Figi.
I've never had a problem with Poly busses. I always go out front for AK HS. I wasn't aware there were busses at TTC. We only use TTC to get to Epcot and sometimes MK depending on time of day.

Same here. From our experience, the more flexible you are as far as room check-in time, the easier it is for the resort to accommodate your requests. Even after making our requests at time of reservation, we'll usually get to the resort way before 3pm (generally early morning say 8-9 am), remind them of what we'd prefer, let them know that we're happy to check our bags with bell services and can wait as long as it takes, then head off to the parks. We'll generally get a call around 1 pm informing us that our room is ready, and that all of our requests have been met.

Not sure about the bus question as we normally have a rental car, so we drive if we need to. Regarding your question about the room, if you want to get into Tahiti definitely make sure you reserve a Theme Park view room. There are garden view rooms in Tahiti as well, but if you reserve a garden view room there's no guarantee it will be Tahiti. I would also check out Tikiman's Poly website at http://www.tikimanpages.com. It is very informative.

Tahiti building has the most of the theme park view rooms. If you make a reservation for theme park view and request Tahiti you are very likely going to get it. There are a lot of garden view rooms as well.

A discount on the room will not affect your longhouse choice. At the most it could affect your resort choice if they sell out quickly.

As for the buses, I don't take them. We use the monorail for MK and Epcot and drive everywhere else. However you should be able to catch a bus to a different park from the TTC.

Yes, Hawaii is 100% club level rooms.

No, Tahiti is not the only longhouse with theme park view rooms. Aotearoa and Tuvalu have theme park view rooms, also.

But please keep in mind that a theme park view room is NOT a request, it's a room category that you must reserve and pay for. Sure, you could request it, but that would be requesting a very large free upgrade, which is unlikely.

I have always gotten my longhouse requests at Poly. The ttc busses are direct routes. I don't know about character busses. We always take a cab when going resort to resort.

Unless you want a Theme park view, I would consider booking a Garden View and then requesting Tahiti and Tokelau. Both Tahiti and Tokelau are close in proximity to the TTC and GCH, plus both have good garden views. Tokelau is nearly all garden view rooms and Tahiti is half garden view. This will increase your chances of the request being made. Our request for 3rd floor, Tokelau, away from elevator was met last July. We booked Tokelau for many of the reasons you stated you wanted Tahiti, with the exception if you want a TPV.
