I found the pin trading on the cruise to be lacking all the way around. I don't know what I expected, but I really only found trading in the stores (which are hardly ever open).
I'd love to see your collection... I vote YES!!!We use cork boards to store our pins, if we had pin books we'd have way too many. We have about 1,000 pins we've collected since 11/05. And about 9 framed pin sets as well. We have two very large boards and then a bunch of smaller ones with "collections" on them. We also have a shelf unit I got at Walmart to hold our Jumbos and boxed sets (30+ of those) and I store extra backs, backer cards, etc in those rubbermaid draw things.
We have one pin book and one pin bag with the pages in it for taking pins on the road with us to trade and/or display. I really dislike lanyards as I'm always afraid I'll lose a pin and they get kind of hot in the FL sun.
I'll post pictures soon if anyone is interested.

I've bought pins for at least 10 years but don't always trade - sometimes I just buy the ones I/DD really like.![]()
Great idea about displaying your pins on cork boards - thanks 2angelsinheaven.![]()
Can't wait to get some DCL pins!![]()
Me too... ???I though pin trading started in 2000---was it earlier than that?

Disney pins have been around almost as long as Disney itself, but you are correct.
Pin trading began with Disney's Millennium Celebration which was a collection of 100 pins. The official announcement was made at the Disneyland Resort by Paul Pressler who at the time was the chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Were all the original 100 pins numbered on the back? If so, then I have #32 (Touchdown Mickey),#77 (Silver Heart, when you open it up there's one of those changing pictures that changes from Walt as a baby to Walt as an adult), and . . . . #1!!!! I'm so excited I found this one! I'll never ever trade it! It has Mickey on it has a flip feature and you flip the year to show 1999 and 2000.![]()
YES! Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to linger around Guest Services to see if they can look in the backI, too, am addicted to the whole pin trading thing! I've found the trading on DCL to be hit or miss at best. On our last cruise I did discover that if you very nicely approach the guest relations desk that they'll peek into the back room and look for officers who are around with lanyards. Best done when there are not too many guests around.![]()
In regards to storing the pins, I use the bag and have inserted cork tiles to cut down on the broken pin situtation. Works like a true dream!!! You can buy the cork tiles at Wal-Mart. For my traders, I bought a small pin bag, wallet size, and cut the cork tiles to fit inside. So, when DD and I trade with a CM, it's fast and easy. "Keep your back" has become a favorite saying of ours. I also have one of the draw string bags as well. Hope the tips help!
