So here is the deal. My DH and I have a 7 day booked for 09/25/04. As a result of our raves of the Wonder cruise we took, some of my aunts, and my mom and cousins are wanting to have a family reunion of sorts on our cruise date. (And a cousin is thinking about doing her wedding then, too!) I love the idea, as do my aunts and female cousins. However, my unlces, dad and some of my male cousins and cousins husbands pretty much said "heck no" (My DH is not one of the nay-sayers, he's all for it!)

I had another cousin get married at WDW and we all went down for that and everyone loved it, so I know, well at least I think, its not a Disney thing! But I think that maybe the men think that we all stand around holding hands singing "It's a Small World" or something on the cruise. I know what DCL offers, but can I get any words of wisdom from the men out there, to spread some convincing words to my male "non-Disney-cruising, but have never cruised DCL so they don't know what they are talking about" family members?

Any help would be appreciated by the "we want to cruise DCL so bad we can taste it (the konch coolers, that is) females" of my family!
:earsgirl:

If the men don't want to go, then plan to have a "Girls Only" Cruise Reunion and see how fast they change their minds!!!

Just start talking about the handsome and hunky CM's, all the bikini babes around the pool - sports bar, food, whatever turns them on!! In other words, appeal to their basic nature!

I'm 27 and my DH is 30. We took our first ever DC in December 2001 for our honeymoon and my DH won't even consider another cruiseline (I want to do a Hawaiian and he said unless Disney goes there, he won't do it). He wasn't even a Disney fan before this. The honeymoon cruise was my idea! In fact, he loves it so much that we went on a 4-day this past January and have another 4-day this coming December AND a 7-day next May planned. What's funny about this is that I had the Boardwalk Inn in WDW booked for this coming December and he just whined and whined until I booked a cruise instead!!! He LOVES it! I really lucked out with my sweetheart!

Good luck convincing. But I like Rae's idea. Tell them it's a Girls Cruise and the boys will come around. They don't won't want to feel left out. You can also talk up the ports of call. That might help!

In my humble opinion...

I think they're nuts!!

We will be taking our 3rd and 4th Disney cruises this fall, and we all love it... especially me! (DH 39)

I would hardly know where to start if I were trying to convince some guys to go... suffice it to say that DCL has been the most enjoyable vacation(s) we've ever had. All I can say to these guys is that if they don't want to go, it is because the cruise is nothing like what they have in mind. Great food, great shows, great family time... parasailing, snorkeling, beaches, etc. Never a dull moment!

I just find it amazing that here I am, counting down the days until we cruise again, and it can't get here fast enough... and to think there are guys with the opportunity to go, and they don't WANT it??? AAAHHHHHHHH!! ;)

Get with the program, dudes. Go on a Disney cruise with your family. You'll never forget it.

Tell him to go fishing out of Castaway Cay!

How often can you go fishing in the Bahamas for such a decent price.

Tempt em with a Surial Spa, too. That would get me packing!

You could start by telling them about the ESPN Skybox.

Also, for a week they don't have to worry about where you're going to eat, what time, driving directions to the restaurants, etc.

There's the various shore excursions. They'll have a great time.

You could start by telling them about the ESPN Skybox.

I thought of that too, but you don't want to do that since the ESPN Skybox will be gone after this October's dry dock!!

How about telling them of the refillable beer mugs? Guys dig beer.

Hi two-foxes.

Calling all men!!!!!

I got here as quickly as I could!

You don't seem to know the real reason for the men's negative responses. It's relatively easy to refute illogic (heck, look at the Debate Board). It's near impossible, however, to argue with stupidity (again, look at the Debate Board... lol). - THAT last one was for Rae!

If you cannot convince the males to join in the fun, then let them all cook their own dinners while the women folk join you and DH.(By the way, two-foxes, I'm available to rent - cheap - if there are any single female cruisers in your party requiring male companionship... ).

Is it they don't want to cruise or they don't want to do the reunion, wedding part? As a guy I can tell you that now way I'd do a wedding as part of my cruise unless it was my wedding. Basically the guys would lose their cruise.

Hm that's a hard one for me as I happen to like Disney, not turn my nose up at it.

There are some good sugggestions up here; Use the sports bar angle, there will STILL be one, it's still going to be ESPN(Disney owns them remember, you could even rub that in; when they're watching ESPN, they're watching Disney already.) but it'll be down in what is now Offbeat and it'll be more cheers bar themed.

And the cheap beer. And highlight the non disney events- the shore excursions, the spa, yes, if it sells, even the surial bath.

And make the point, they're not going to walk into a cartoon ship. I can imagine that's what most non-disney people immediately think. Yes, there's disney theming around, but it's subtle and elegant, not in your face. And, they don't even have to dressup too much if they don't want to, there other dining options besides the formal sitdowns, but I find those the most interesting, myself.

And the movie theatre, it's a old fashioned theatre, that shows a lot of current adult oriented movies, not just Disney animated features. As an example they had 'Bringing Down the House' with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah, and also Chicago so there are things non disney to do. :)

It's about time you replied, BD!!!! I thought you might have been busy with work or something equally as fun!!!!! I am sure that if there were any single female cruisers, you could be a charming and entertaining companion! Should I give you a reference?!!!!

Ohhh, that debate board - quote the Raven, "Nevermore!"
Too often we get sliders here also! THAT'S PERSONAL BETWEEN ME AND BD, FOLKS!!!!
So don't get your dander up!

BD,
Are cruise costs paid for by the renter? We may be able to make a deal here!

Well, I figure I have 450+ days to make this work...but I must say, a ladies cruise is sounding better by the minute. :smooth:
I would have to break this news to my DH, however, and I am not sure that would go over too well:rolleyes:

Again, I vote for the Ladies Only Cruise! I cruise twice a year with Mom (74) and then once with DH - all cruises do include my DS though!

The Mom and I cruise is the most fun - tell your DH that we said that!!!!!

Rae

Hi Rae!

Should I give you a reference?!!!!

Thank you, my dear, but I think you just did...

Hi two-foxes.

Are cruise costs paid for by the renter?

No, but check with your financial advisor. They might be tax-deductible...

There is no need to exclude DH. A group of all women = a group of too-many women. Your hubby will probably add just the right amount of testosterone (if you also include the right renter... lol).

BD - you have to think about making the 4/16 - Andy and Rae Cruise - I know you are way toooooo young for our age celebration (50) but what the heck!!

You need DH to go along. Without him, who would carry all the luggage for the ladies?!?!?

Now, the Magic's going into drydock and while there, ESPN Club becomes the Teen club, Offbeat becomes a cheers style espn sports bar, and Common grounds becomes a coffee house. Nothing's happening to the Wonder until at least 2005 when it is it's turn for drydock.

2nd - refillable BEER mugs? how much are those and how's that program work???

I don't know prices off the top of my head- they sell you one of those extra tall beer glasses(yard of beer?), and you get refills for a lot cheaper, unlike the soda mug where the refills are free.

Geez, good point....but if we take Buckaroo's Dad....I wonder if he'll charge extra for that:p
