Okay -- we went to Boma two years ago and we all loved it (Mom, Dad, and three kids). We have it down on our list to do again in August -- but now we're thinking, what about Jiko?
We realize it's a "step up" -- but would love to hear from people who have been to both and can give us specific comparisons.
Our kids are 17, 13 and 9 -- pretty adventurous and very well-behaved when it comes to restaurants and food.
Thanks!!!

It's hard to compare the two. Jiko is fine dining, service oriented, Boma is casual dining, buffet style. Jiko has wine pairings, fancy desserts, delicious food with fantastic presentation. Boma has a wonderful selection of all-you-care-to-eat new food experiences, with as many returns to the various food stations as you want. An exotic pig-out, if you will. Jiko has an understated, exotic, quiet, elegant decor, while Boma is colorful, noisy, cheerful, market-like. I adore both restaurants equally, but it all depends on what kind of dining experience I'm in the mood for. Both my kids (teens) liked both, but tended to lean towards Boma. Personally, I liked Jiko's wine pairings...

Having done both many times, I think it really is a matter of what you are seeking. Jiko is fine dining. Boma is a buffet. Both have good food, although Jiko's is better and more unusual. Jiko is a high service environment, Boma is a buffet (not intended as a criticism, just that there is no real service).

I love Jiko. I have been once to Boma for dinner and once for breakfast. I enjoyed breakfast but didn't enjoy dinner that much. There are too many different spices and tastes for me at Boma. Jiko, however, is another story. I love at least half of their menu and since I don't eat fish that is saying something. It is the one Disney resturant where I really have a hard time choosing. I've found the food to be wonderful, the services to be at least adequate and usually a lot more, and the atmosphere to be relaxed and special at the same time. If you like wine they have a really interesting wine list and they will help you select the right one for your dinner and your tastes. Give Jiko a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Jiko is wonderful and I highly recemmend the pork firecrackers, kenyan bbq flatbread, and the filet and definitely go for the wine pairing. The kid's menu is the best on all of wdw property in my opinion, the child's filet is the same as the adult's just a little smaller and comes with fresh fruit an exceptional value at only $11.00, and your 13 year old should'nt have a problem ordering off the kid's menu. Enjoy!

I've been to both and I greatly prefer Jiko. Its not that Boma was bad at all, but Jiko is so much more elegant, and the food, in my opinion, is a little more unique. Jiko has a great wine list too! I can't remember if Boma shares that list or not. Favorites for us at Jiko are the flatbreads, the short ribs, the filet, the charmoula chicken, the taste of Africa dipping sauces, and, my all time favorite, the roasted fish with vegetables of the moment.

There have always been kids at Jiko when we have been there, so I am sure yours will be fine too.

I have also eaten at both and the posting by UrsulasShadow sums it up perfectly (in my view).

Jiko is a wonderful restaurant. It has so many different flavors and smells. It just has a beautiful atmosphere. I bet you will love it.

 Jiko lover here!

It is a fine dining place. The meals and service are very good. Its at the top of must do places for me. Last summer i ate the filet with mac and cheese
and that was wonderful. The African wines are very good to . I finished the meal with the creme bulee ! :cloud9:

Been to both.

No comparison, they are completely different. Boma is one of teh best buffets I've ever eaten in IMO.

We love Jiko!! One of the best onsite finer restaurants IMO. Love the filet with mac & cheese too! Pistachio & chocolate creme brulee is to die for! Love the chaging colors on the walls with the lighting, comfy, great service too!
Great house wine, Cape Indaba Cabernet.

BTW, my son is also 9 and he picked Jiko for his birthday dinner!
