I just ordered an adorable light switch plate for our nursery, but unfortunately I realized that our current light switch plate seems to be cut a bit shorter on the side to fit where the light switch is.

What sort of tool could I use to cut a slice off of the new light swith plate to make it fit?? Actually, my husband would do it-I'm not very handy!!

It's not a metal plate. i think its plastic-whatever most light switch plates are...

Thanks!!:goodvibes

A fine toothed saw of some kind. I have hobby saws that would do it but they are not something normally found around the house.

You maybe able to cut it with a razor knife depending on how thick it is. Dremel w/cut off blade would be ideal.

I'd use my table saw.

do you mean it is too close the door frame and you have to cut some of the side ? I would use a table saw too.

Maybe a hacksaw. I agree the dremel bit (if you have one), possibly score it with a razor blade or other sharp knife, and if those don't work, something with some fine tooth blade.

That's pretty rude.

It's not your job to teach us all to use google. This forums exists to discuss all manner of things, including questions like 'How do I trim a light switch plate?'

I thought it was pretty funny.

Somebody did that to me once when I asked a question and I thought it was hilarious.

Do folks just sit around here LOOKING for reasons to be offended?

Probably. Just like people wander about looking for ways to be rude.
