Calling all germophobes re: coffee makers

I always bring my own - but mostly because I prefer the taste of my coffeemaker as opposed to others..

Well, at POFQ the coffee makers were on the dresser near the TV. Oddly enough, when I have used the in room coffee makers in the past, I have moved them to the bathroom because should I spill the coffee or should the coffeemaker malfunction, it would spill in the bathroom on the tile floor rather than the carpeting. I couldn't do that at POFQ because they are just pedestal sinks instead of vanities.

I have never once even fathomed the thought that someone would tamper with the coffeemaker and as long as the pot was clean, I didn't even think about it. I guess I just don't worry about things like that

I think you should do it if it makes you feel more comfortable.

unless those suckers are sanitized (the pot as well as the thing that holds the filters--then no I don't think they are safe.

I don't like to use them--good thing I don't drink coffee.

Ew.. I'm just thinking about the coffee pot being in the bathroom and everytime you flush the toilet germs/tiny droplets of water are expelled around the room. Gross!

well I thought the bathrooms at WDW---the sink area was separate.

And after watching Myth busters---no part of the room or home is 100% safe from flying yuckies.

they took clean toothbrushes--one in a bathroom and one in another part of the house and guess what.

Same yucky stuff.

LOL! That wasn't quite worded the way it should have been, was it? How about "I prefer the taste of the coffee from my own coffeemaker?" It's a Black & Decker - won't use any other kind.. The one I have here at the house bit the dust a couple of weeks ago (it's a one-cup) and you wouldn't believe what I went through trying to find another! Went to every store in town and no one had them - just the pod coffeemakers.. Finally out of desperation, I checked the Target web site and they had them available but only on-line.. I ordered 2 of them as fast as my little fingers could type.. LOL

I'm actually thinking of ordering two more for "just in case".. The price was right and I have a feeling that soon I won't be able to find them anywhere..

Do you think the in-room coffee makers are clean? whenever we stay where there's a coffee maker already there, i've been a little skeeved about using it (but i have used it, and i've brought my little 4-cupper in the past too).

not to totally gross anyone out, but i always think "did some guy pee in there for a joke... or did some guy spit in there just to be gross"... don't laugh at me... maybe i'm the only one who has ever thought this. and i say guy because a woman wouldn't do anything like that, but some guys would (dh is the one always telling me how disgusting men really are - men's restrooms, etc).

i guess i could bring vinegar and do a quick cleaning of it??? i know, i'm insane

Yah....I've never used them. I'm not a germaphobe...but they usually have coffee in the lobby anyway.

Who knows, maybe the desk clerk peed in that pot too.

These questions are not helpful to anyone and if I were Disney I would be questioning whether or not some of these discussions are deframing the reputation of their business.

Are you for real? These threads ARE helpful to some. I never realized the coffee pots are a way for germs and bacteria to be spread.

I don't use the coffeemakers, but what really scares me are ketchup despensers you see at fast food places! Yuck! I am so afraid someone spit in there or something!

I know!! We have them at my theatre (we sell hot dogs) and they're gross. I prefer prepackaged condiments.
