Wow, this has just become a "happening thread". Welcome deedee67 and Leezah. Pull up a chair and hang around for while.

Slo, I'm glad to know my husband is not the only one that is teased. I kind of think in the FD, if you get teased that means they like you.

BHFAN25...that is so funny about the nicknames. There are guys that have the funniest nicknames...if you don't have a nickname they call you by your last name. It took me years before I knew most of the guys REAL first names!!! My husband one day said something about "Steve" and I said who? He said, you know, Sparky! (Oh....that's his real name?!?, LOL)

intenseblue...speaking of vacations...every time my DH is on vacation he brings patches with him and we visit nearby FD's to see if they have patches to trade. He has a big board full of them at home. When we were in MK in Feb. we noticed the FD store there has boards with patches on them and of course DH forgot his. We didn't really realize they had those there.

Actually my DH has his own "FIRE" room in our house. It's our finished basement. He drives me nuts with all his stuff...guess who has to dust it??? Anyone else have a "fire" room?

Our den used to be a fire dept room and I say "used to" because it had to be transformed into DD#2's nursery. He is now saving all his collectables for when we move and he can have a den again. Our basement is currently all his Indy/NASCAR collectables of which needs to be dusted:) .

I have a question also. Who here has a husband who has a wardrobe that consists of almost all FD t-shirts, windshirts, jackets, polos, and etc? My husband not only has ones from this town but also other towns and cities. He goes to FDIC every year in Indy and comes home w/more t-shirts. He is running out of space.

One evening after a meeting he came home all mad about something and says "that's it, I'm done!!" (of which he naturally doesn't mean and is only blowing off steam). So I said, "Well, I guess your going to be running around in your underwear since everything you own is related to the FD." He just laughed and naturally his "blowing off steam" lasted until the pager went off and then everything went back to normal.

I laugh just thinking about this.:p

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think your DH and mine were separated at birth!!!! That is hysterical and I can't stop laughing. What is with those shirts!!!! He has so many that he doesn't know what to do with them all. I tell him he can only keep what fits in his drawers so if he buys any more he has to get rid of some of the old ones...kinda like having another kid, you know?

He and a team from his FD were actually in the Firefighter Combat Challenge this last summer in Ottawa CAnada. It was on ESPN but they didn't make the finals. THey were happy to just qualify to be in it. Have you guys ever seen this? It is amazing!

And the thing about "blowing off steam"....please don't get me started!!!!

Hi! My DH is also a firefighter. He worked as a call firefighter in the town he grew up in and then became a full timer there for 8 years (yucky schedule - Monday through Friday 7 - 4). He was just hired by the city we live in (after about 10 years of waiting!). As I write this he is currently working his first 24 hour shift! We'll see how I do with my first night "home alone"! We are expecting our first baby in September so his new schedule will definitely be much better for child care.

DH is an engineer by day and a volunteer fireman by all other times. He's been at it for 15 years now. He was the driver of the rescue truck.....but Just became a lieutenant.
It is frustrating at times....some times there seems to be so many fires one right after the other....especially in the spring when everyone is burning outside. And all the trainings....it takes up time. But its his passion. His brother his the chief in the town where he lives. My own brother was on his dept in is town until he became to ill and my grandfather was a volunteer when he was alive. So I have a family full of them :D
Yes I'm proud!!

We are having family over today for dinner, it's a guarantee that he will get called out sometime during the course of their visit - I'm sure it will be dinner. My parents are so very proud of him though and never mind him having to go. In fact, my parents live in the same town as us, and if they hear sirens they often call to see what is going on.

My husband is an EMT also, so he gets called out for every medical call along with every fire related call - he's always on the go.

So....my family gathering is over and I was right about DH being called out during dinner.
1st call - a false alarm, a business fire alarm went off after a power surge.
2nd call - a brush fire
3rd call - pregnant lady was beat up buy her husband  How sad!!!!

I just knew this would happen - he never was able to finish his meal. He finally just gave up on dinner and didn't eat anything. He didn't even get a piece of my mom's b'day cake:(

We too have a large collection of t-shirts.. I DID break down and nuy myself a "Reedy Creek Fire Union" shirt that I wear to Disney...I ALWAYS get asked if I am a cast member... I have even been offered to "cut" in line, but I have resisted..the idea of all the people waiting beating me up for cutting stops me!

DH is a paramedic and also teaches...tomorrow he has a ER clinical where he has to babysit student paramedics.

oh..ps.. I use to have a scanner too..But we moved about 30 minutes North of his city, so I can BARELY hear now..he only really goes on Structures or really bad car accidents, but I still like to listen.

My DH is a former D.C. firefighter, now working for the Secret Service. Boy do I remember these days:

Been there, done that, for the first 12 years of my marriage.

Still, you'd be hard pressed to find a more noble profession! My hat is off to our nation's firefighters! :)

:wave2: DisneyDmbnut Glad to see you again .

Congrats to your DH MichellePooh

We are back from the Firehouse now and of course they were glad to see me ( I think it was the smell of basil LOL) .
It is all about the food !
My husband cant cook and does not want to learn , he claims he has me why does he need to cook .

My DH will be working his other job ( Paramedic for a private ambulance company) so maybe I can nap after work and have the whole bed on Monday :teeth:

So...my 5yr old DD fell down and scraped her elbow outside today and DH promised to bandage it up after her shower and before she went to bed.

Well, the shower is done and DH just got paged out for an ambulance call for a little boy having a cesure. I just heard it's a signal 10:eek: must be really bad. Anyway.....I told my DD that I will bandage her up and she said no because only Daddy can do it because he drives an Ambulance. I said that I am a mommy though and I do happen to know what I am doing. But she insists that I know nothing, and daddy knows everything and she has to wait till he gets home. Plus, she wants to know what a cesure is and why this little boy is having one - now that she is getting older she is becoming much more inquisitive.

So...I told her she can lay in bed and wait for him and I'm sure she will fall asleep before he gets home. A call like this will take awhile I'm sure.

i LOVE going to my dads firehouse..those firemen are the best cooks i have ever seen in my life..they get so into their dinners when it is their turn to cook.. ...i asked one time if they had jar sauce (as opposed to homeade spaghetti sauce) they said that they dont serve that..its the funniest thing....

Yup, we have the coats, t-shirts, patches, caps as well as the turnout gear in the car, and every certificate for every course DH has ever taken related to Fire Training. I can't tell you how many times he forgot to turn off his pager before leaving for the base at night (works 11pm-7am) and the darn thing has gone off at 2am. Oh, well.. such is his life, and I am incredibly proud of him, as are our kids.

I think all FF like to trade duty t shirts because my DH does it also . Closet is full and then some .

We have a Mickey Mouse Firefighter bathroom . It is the half bath off the kitchen and I have a Mickey Mouse kitchen .

:wave2: night girls .... Time for me to enjoy the WHOLE bed to myself

Welcome Debbie, Michelle(congrats to your DH) and others!!! Glad you could join us. It's really fun hearing that there are others out there like us who are just crazy enough to be married to one of these guys!!!

Slo, I'm with you sister, about the family function interruptions. With us...my dad, brother, DH, cousins are all FF so when they go to a call during a party, it's usually the women left.

MY oldest DD is the same way as yours. Jordan is 8 and thinks her daddy is the greatest thing "since sliced bread". He can do no wrong and no one better mess with her daddy. On those times when he says, "I have to go to the firehouse for a minute" (you girls all know that the clocks at the firehouse run MUCH slower than real time....LOL) she will call him and ask him when he is coming home because she misses him. She always tells him "be VERY careful Daddy" when he goes on calls.

I also need to ask you all if your DH has a magnet in his car/truck, also. I swear mine does. He can't drive by the firehouse without pulling into the parking lot and stopping by because of the gravitational pull of that magnet!!! (Didn't someone say their DH is a mechanic...I think they need to come over and look at his truck. :teeth: )

Mad4Mickey....Did you save any lasagna for us? I bet the guys scarfed it down on you. I haven't had the "honor" of having to bring my DH food yet but I'm sure he'd be thrilled if I had to. Like I said, he took the test, got 100, and is waiting for the city to hire right now. You know, the guy loves it so much that he'll be probably taking about a $20,000 pay cut to do what he loves. (Most people would say that was crazy and they don't get it). He says with overtime he'll make it up so he's not worried.

Well, I'm off this a.m. to get Jaylin, my 5 y.o. to nursery school, do some grocery shopping and then off to Jordan's school for cafeteria duty. I only do it on Monday's. See you girls later this afternoon.

MY DD still thinks Mommy is the only one that can do anything..Even when she REALLY hurts herself, she wants mom! Oh well..

This is DH Kelly week...his kelly day is Tuesday, so I have him till Friday. But I like when he works on Friday.. I have booked a pedicure appt and I am taking DD to dinner. We enjoy our "girls night out"

My SUV has the Fire Union sticker on the back as well as the Diamond Plate "Professional Firefighters of Margate" plate on the front..He just has the Union sticker on his back window.

On of the guys at his station is the BEST cook...he make a Gumbo that is to DIE for!! He was on vacation last Sunday when we went to the station for Easter dinner. The guys all cooked for the wives...it was nice, and the rookies had to was the dishes...gee...wish I had a rookie at home to clean after dinner!

ok..gotta get some work done today! Bye Ladies!

Not only that, but (we live 3 blocks from the Firehouse) if there are a bunch of cars speeding in that direction, he has to hop in his car to make sure he didn't miss a call.... even though his pager is on and he would have heard it if it went off!

And yes, it is amazing how the clocks at the firehouse run slower than they do here at home! :D Otto doesn't generally hang out at the firehouse, but when he does go there "to check on a class" it could be awhile before he gets back.

I am not sure how I missed this thread. My DH is a firefighter/EMT and will finish paramedic school this summer. I could not even imagine how different our lives would be if DH worked Monday-Friday 8-5.

::yes:: I understand completely, Jeanne. We live like 2 blocks from the FD and even when DH is cutting the lawn or doing yard work. He has the pager clipped to his collar so he can hear it over the lawnmower....

MY DH does spend time at the firehouse, but not as much as he used to. He usually does when I'm working (I'm a work-at-home medical transcriptionist) and when the kids are sleeping. It used to be a lot more. But I have to say that I'm glad that he has such great friends there. Yes, they are the mischievious type but they are a bunch of guys that would do anything for you.

Welcome, Sap1227, come on in and have a seat and get comfy!!!

DisneyDmbNut...I have a cousin who is a paid FF in Virginia Beach...from talking to them the Kelly week is when they work their 24/7 shift (be in 2-3 days, whatever?) Am I right? I know I've heard them say that word before... LIsten to me, I sound so silly :yo-yo: You mentioned getting work done...what do you do? (just being nosey I guess)

Well, now I'm off to work today, too. I'm working 2-10 so I'll you gals after that.
