Calling all Fireman wives!!!

My husband got an unbelievable call yesterday from one of his fellow firefighters. I still can't comprehend....He was told that a firefighter that he had worked with at the same station for about 7 years had been killed. He had been shot by a neighbor. It started when either a ball went into the neighbor's yard or one of the kid's from the firefighter's 9 year old son's birthday party went on the neighbor's grass. The neighbor has quite a reputation of being a real nut. The firefighter and neighbor got into a physical altercation.
The neighbor, a former police officer, pulled out a gun. My husband's friend turned to run and he was shot in the back....This all in front of his child and family and friends gathered for the party.
I still can't even fathom this type of violence. It certainly is not typical for the neighborhood or the firefighter. He was a nice guy. Everybody is just in shock.
Please pray for his wife and 2 children.

Thanks,
Kerri

I am so sore from my planting, which shocks me with the amount of working out that I've been doing the last couple of months:eek: My butt and thighs feel like I've been horseback riding for the last 24 hours - it must be from all the squating I did:rolleyes:

I went yesterday and bought some more dirt, and tonight I'm going to go buy some more flowers - I love flowers!!!! :flower2: It's great to have all the color in the yard :flower:

Kerri - This story is terrible, just terrible!!!!!:sad1: :sad1:
I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers:angel: I also feel bad for the family of the man that did the shooting - could you imagine how you would feel if your husband just did something so awful - what do you say to your kids??? The whole thing is just terrible!!!!!:guilty:

Karen - I've never got into vampire stories, but I do love Stephen King books:) I"m glad you and Emily had a nice time reading together the other day:goodvibes

To everyone else - :wave2:

Have a good day today everyone!!

Kerri - How awful!!! My prayers are with you and the fireman's family. Such a senseless act:sad1:

Sandy - Nobody wants to sleep with my youngest DD either! She used to be horrible. I would find her completely sideways in her bed. She's better now and isn't nearly as restless. Glad to hear you got most of your flowers planted:thumbsup2

Karen - Vampire books:scared1: I can't read those kind of books. I live out in the woods and it's creepy enough around here without me adding my imagination to it. I read "The Oath" by Frank Peretti and I would make DH get up and take me to the bathroom in the middle of the night:rotfl2:

CB - My kids have been bugging for paintball guns but I'm afraid they'll get hurt. Especially my youngest - she's tiny for her age. Are house got paint-balled a year ago. Luckily we only had some broken siding and lots of clean up. Some of our windows were hit but no breakage. We called the State Police (no local police out here) and they said alot of houses got hit. We weren't home at the time. We had hit a deer on the way home from Philly and trashed our truck. It was 3 am by the time we got home. My son's friends found out who did it and well, let's just say it has happened since:rolleyes1

I went to the Chiropractor - he basically said that my neck and spine don't curve at all. Everyone should have a natural curve and mine is nearly non-existent. He is extremely concerned about my lower back because several of my discs are almost completely gone. If I don't do something now, surgery will be in my future. He also said that my one hip has rolled forward a bit, but that's from my birth defect. He seems to think he can help. DH thinks I should definitely go ahead with this treatment. I'm a little nervous but I think I will. I'm getting worse so I don't have a choice really. I can't even do the "Mom's Dance" at my daughters' recital. I tried and I just can't. I'm so frustrated with myself!!!

Oh well - the Dr says in 6 weeks I should be almost completely out of pain and in 6 months the necessary corrections should be complete. So we shall see. Of course none of this helps with the foot pain so I'll still need the wheelchair, but I should be much more comfortable when I'm in it.

Have a great day everyone!!
Kimba

Kerri- That story was awful. I cant imagine how any of the families are feeling. It seems that its a big shock to everyone. Ill be keeping them all in my thoughts.

So I thought I would let everyone know how Marc is progressing on his way to his internship. He is taking the EMT registry and physical agility test next week and also trying to get a class B license permit as well as ambulance license. He hasnt actually gotten to start his internship yet because the one doing interviews and arranging everything is taking a while. Marc is actually sick right now. Hes had a fever for the past 2 days and Ive been trying to take care of him because he has to recover and work out before his physical agility test next week.

I hope everyones weeks are going well. Tomorrow is Wednesday, so almost half way there!

:surfweb:

I'm feeling so tired this morning, and I don't know why :confused3

Today I'm off work, and I'm going to spend it all day cleaning and doing laundry - fun! fun!!!! It'll actually feel good when it's done, and I won't have anyone home with me, so no interuptions!!!!:thumbsup2 We are getting a new furnace and air conditioner today, so I have to be home for them, which is good, because that means I can't leave, which means even more will get accomplished :thumbsup2 It should be a very productive day!!!!!!:)

Kimba - I"m so sorry to hear about the diagnosis  I would definitly go with the treatment, and hopefully it will help you :wizard: Kevin and I have both been to a chiropractor, and he definitly helped us. Please keep us posted on how you are doing, and I'll send tons and tons of PD your way to feel better soon:wizard: :wizard:

CB - Good luck to Marc as he continues with working towards his internship :wizard: I'm sorry to hear he's not feeling well - I hope he feels better soon :wizard:

Well, I gotta run and do my indoor workout
Have a good day today everyone!!!

:surfweb:

OMGosh - So Tired!!!!!!!!!
Our Furnace and Air Conditioning installation didn't get finished until midnight :faint: The guys started at 9am, and they finished at 10:30pm. They then realized that the hot water tank wouldn't light up, so they had to call someone else to the house, to fix that problem. That was then finished at midnight. Kevin kept telling me to go to bed, but I wanted to stay up and keep him company. We both get up at the same time, so we may as well suffer our tiredness together:)

While the men were working yesterday, I had a very awesome, productive day:banana: I cleaned Katie's room (this took forever, but I threw away 2 bags of garbage, and have a HUGE bag for Goodwill), went through both girls closets (took out small clothes, and moved winter to summer things around), sorted things out in the playroom (it's no wonder why those girls never find anything, they never put things away properly), did several loads of laundry, and other misc things. I was very happy with my day!!!!!!

Well, I gotta run and color my hair - no workout today :sad2:
I'm to tired, and not in the mood, so I'll color my hair instead :teeth:
Have a good day today everyone!!

I cannot put into words how happy I am that today is the last day of school! It has been crazy this week! I feel like I have hardly been here!

slo - Midnight is pretty bad, but I guess hot water is always a priority!!

kerri - how awful for that family! How are they?

celticblue - good luck to your DF. Very nice of you to take care of him!

kimba - I hope the chiropractor can help you with your pain!!

Emily did her news story yesterday. She did well. I don't kow what happens now. If they do put it on the news, they may put it on their website. If they do that I will post a link on here.

Mom is still in Mexico! I hate when I don't get to talk to her everyday!!

Have a great day!!

kerri - how awful for that family! How are they?

His wife is doing better than one would expect, but his 12 year old daughter is blaming herself because she is the one who went in to tell her Dad that the neighbor was yelling and swearing at the kids...So sad. His own father, daughter and son witnessed the shooting so they are completely messed up.
Wake is tonight and funeral tomorrow.
Going to be a tough couple of days.
Kerri

kerri - Lots of prayers going out to that family!! :grouphug:

Thanks all of you!
Just got back from the wake. It took 3 hours in line...sooo many people. Firefighters and police from the entire state. Really an incredible turnout.
It's amazing how his parents and wife are holding up.
Thanks again for all your prayers.
Kerri

I'm up really early this morning {{yawn!!}}
Kevin has to get up early to catch a plane for work, and I got up with him (it's always easier for him to get up and get going, if I"m up too :) ). It's actually a benefit for me to get up this early, because it gets me up earlier to walk, and I'll be able to do 4 miles today:thumbsup2

We had excitement at our house yesterday morning.
Remember how I said those goofballs were at our house until midnight the other night? Well, yesterday when I came in from putting STephanie on the bus, I could smell gas:eek: Obviously I got nervous, and I called Kevin at work. He told me to call the FD guys and have them bring out a meter. Well, you can't just call and ask that, it has to be a huge thing - lights and sirens:eek: I felt so silly - luckily I know them all :) They could smell the gas too ::yes:: and there was a gas leak. Nothing read on their meter, so they said that the gas wasn't enough for it to be dangerous, which was good, because I told them I wasn't in the mood to blow up today:rotfl: So they turned the gas off to the furnace, and then we visited for a couple of minutes and they left (this was at 8am). So, needless to say, the furnace peeps had to come back out last night, but luckily they didn't stay as long as last time, and I guess everything is fixed now:thumbsup2

What is everyone's plans for this Memorial Day weekend?
I'm going to finish my planting, so I'm really excited about that. I bought 2 more flats yesterday, and some vines. Most of the vines are Black--eyed Susan vines and I"m planting them in planters by the pool and hottub. I'm going to lead them up the deck railings so they cover those - it'll look pretty cool (fingers crossed).

Karen - Congrats to Emily for doing so well :cheer2: I would love to see it if it gets on the website!!!!
**You are so lucky that the kids are out of school :woohoo: I have to wait until June 5th to be excited about no school:rolleyes: Luckily the weather is still kinda chilly, so it's been easier to keep STephanie concentrated on school (which is not easy to begin with).

Kerri - My entire heart totally goes out to that family!!!! I will continue to keep them in my prayers  This whole this tragic, just totally tragic!!!!:sad1: I just could't imagine being in their shoes right now.

Well, I"m off to get ready for my walk
Have a good day today everyone!!!

slo - well you were the early bird this morning!!

This is my first morning of only getting myself up. It is very quiet right now! I do have to run and let mom's dog out (they are in Mexico) so I will post more later!

Yesterday I ended up getting one of my super sugar migraines, and ended up coming home from work at 4pm and laying in bed until 7pm. I then had some cereal for supper, and watched tv until 10pm and then went to bed - not a good Friday night!!!!! :sad2: I ate Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast, and Kevin definitly believes that that's what did it. The headache did start before 12 noon, and than it got unbelievable worse after I ate my lunch (which was a Lean Cuisene Panini sandwich). I hate having this problem with me, because once the headache starts, there's no stopping it - even pain medications won't help it. It's like having the worse hangover headache after drinking WAY to much:headache: So I guess, I get hungover from sugar :sad1: So annoying!!!!!!!!

Well, I need to get going and get ready for work
I'm not working out today, because I still have a slight headache, and I don't want to push it into another full blown headache and ruin my day:headache: So I guess I will work out tomorrow, even though Sunday is normally my day off from working out - oh well.

On a quick, positive note about me working out....
I've lost an inch around my waste, and approx 6lbs:woohoo: That makes me very excited!!!!

Have a good day today everyone!!!

sandy - that is awesome news!! Not that you had a headache  , that you lost weight & inches!!

We went to celebrate last night - Jim passed the final part of his pilot test!! Woohoo!!:woohoo: He will now have to go through the Coast Guard licensing part. Hopefully it won't take too long. The pilot on his shift has put in for his transfer already, so he needs all the paperwork done!

Mom comes home today!!

Well, my break from cleaning is over! I am off to sweep the floor and clean the computer desk!

What a beautiful day today!!! :sunny:

It's going to be another super planting day for me :flower:
I have a flat of impatients, an almost flat of vincas, 9 black-eyed susan vines, and some other things - I just love planting!!!!! :flower2: I'm so glad that I have a great day to be outside!!!!!

Kevin opened the pool up yesterday:cool1: Nothing says winter is over like having the pool cover off!!! For the first time though the pool water is GREEN:eek: and Kevin is not happy!!!! He takes great pride in having clear water when winter is over - not this time!!!!:sad2: So, he'll be working on that tomorrow

Today Kevin is at the Indy 500, and I'm so glad that they have a nice day for it :sunny: He was not in the mood to go back there tomorrow if it got rained out today. I normally try to watch some of the race, but not today - I'm going to be to busy. He always watches it after he comes home, so I will catch some of it then :thumbsup2

Karen - Congratulations to Jim for passing his final - that is awesome news!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: Is he wanting to be just on the Coast Guard, or the Coast Guard and the FD at the same time?
**Where was your mom at? I can't remember if you told me or not.

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta run and get this day started
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Good morning everyone!

sandy - did you get all the planting done? did Kevin get the pool un - green?
Mom was in Mexico, this was the sailboat race from Pensacola to Mexico. Usually Dad races and mom flies down. Then they hang out on the beach. This year, big storms! They broke the mast before they ever got out of site of land! So, they both flew down & hung out! Jim doesn't want to be in the Coast Guard - they have to approve his license. Of course this goes well with my retirement dream - I will be a nurse at WDW and Jim can pilot one of their boats or drive a bus (he will be licensed for both!)!

Does everyone have big plans today? I have to work for awhile, I'm on call.

It feels good to have another day off today :woohoo:

(I just noticed the smiles have changed:headache: I hate it when they do that:furious: )

I still have more planting to do today :flower:
I ran out of dirt yesterday, and I need to go buy more today. I've already gone through 8 bags of dirt - I can't believe it!!!!! I have 5 more pots to plants, and one hanging pot - then I'm done!!!! :yay:

Yesterday after I did alot of planting, and realized I couldn't plant anymore, I decided to trim all the hedges in the back, which is a lot. The trimming is never alot of work, but the picking up all the trimmings is :faint: I'm really sore now today, because I did alot of bending and squatting yesterday. But it feels so good to know that it's all done!!!!!

Karen - I sorry to hear about your dads boat :( I hope your parents were still able to have a good time, even though he couldn't do the race.
**I like your retirement dream!!!!:thumbsup2
**Kevin is going to work on the pool today. He didn't come home yesterday from the Indy 500 until 6:30pm, and then he took a shower, ate a little supper, and went straight to bed. He was exhausted, because they leave at 3:15am to go the race, so it's always a long day!!!

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I'm off to think about making some breakfast
Have a good day today everyone!!!

I had another wonderful, productive day yesterday!!!!! :cool1:
I finally finished all my planting:woohoo: and then with the time leftover I was able to start cleaning up the girls playarea. It had tons of leaves in there from the winter and many sticks from the awful tree that's in that area too. It always feels so good to get stuff done!!!!

Now that all the planting is done, I'm a little nervous about the weather today. The news just said patchy frost  I have so much planted, that's scattered all over the front and back yard, that I don't think I have enough covers to cover it all:( I don't know what I'm going to do  I better figure something out, because I didn't break my back planting all this stuff, to have it die from frost:worried: .

Oh...I also made my ADR's for our trip coming up  I didn't make as many as normal, since we are staying in the condo, and we'll have our own kitchen for breakfast (this will save us some money :woohoo: ).
Monday,MK Day - breakfast at Chef Mickeys, dinner at Kona Cafe
Tuesday, MNSHHP night - dinner at LTT
Wed, Hollywood Studios day - dinner at Sci-Fi
Thur, Epcot day - breakfast at Kona Cafe, dinner at Garden Grill
The other days we are there we are going to eat outside of the WDW or at the condo. It's weird to have such little ADR's, but like I said, it will save us a lot of money:thumbsup2

Well, I"m must get going and workout. I'm staying inside today, because I don't feel like going out in the cold and especially the wind :cold: It's frustrating that the last 2 days gave the girls and I tons of sunburn on our arms, and today I have to bring out my leather coat:headache: The joys of weather in the Chicago area.

Have a good day today everyone!!!

sandy - I hope your plants are OK! How exciting to start making ADRs! I need to get on the phone with Shades of Green & make a ressie for January while Jim still wants to d an adults only trip!

I saw 3 patients yesterday. It wasn't bad. Then my family came to my house to cook out. Mom & I took J & E to Prince Caspian this weekend. It was great!! I love these books/movies! We also went to the library this weekend. Both kids signed up for the summer reading program and got started on their required reading for school.
Today Emily is babysitting for the neighbors. She has before, but this is summer babysitting. She will work for them a couple days a week. They are going to pay her well. I hope all goes smoothly.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi All!! Just checking in.

Yesterday Me, DH and the 3 kids were in our local Memorial Day Parade. DH and I drove the Rescue Suburban that was towing the fire boat. Me, DH and my youngest DD rode inside the truck. DD and I threw out candy. My oldest DD and my DS rode in the fire boat and waved to people. Luckily it wasn't too hot or buggy out. We had a good time. We came home and had a BBQ here, just us:goodvibes

The ironic thing is I hate parades that throw out candy. It usually brings out the worst in kids. But yesterday almost every group of kids yelled thank you after we tossed the candy. I was really impressed.

SANDY - Your ADRs look good:thumbsup2 Are you one of the ones planning without hours too?? We are going in December, I need to make ADRs in a little over a week. Hopefully December's hours will be out on time. I'm trying to find ways to save money too.
My biggie this year will be Cinderella's Breakfast. We did dinner at the castle our first year. It was before the whole pre-plated, pre paid thing. Well Jocelyn was 6 at the time and sick as a dog!! She had a high fever and was just not feeling well. It was our last day and she was determined to make the best of it. (We got to view the attraction called "MGM First Aid"). Anyway, she remembers NOTHING of the castle. She is looking forward to dressing up in her Princess dress this year - how much longer do I really have for that? So we are doing the Million Dollar Breakfast this year:rotfl2:

KAREN - We took the kids to see Prince Caspian too. It was a great movie - LONG!! - but great! My DD16 is seriously crushing on Prince Caspian:lovestruc
She can't wait for the meet and greet. I think she has very good taste:thumbsup2

Have a good day everyone!!
Kim
