Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Oh Susan.... you and your family are definitely in my thoughts.

Hi Crissup! :wave2:

Becky, good luck with all your events! :thumbsup2

Kim! :wave2:

Everyone ~ Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the summer!

Nuttin' new on my end. :confused3

Hi everyone-

Just got back from Scotland on Wednesday evening. Ever notice how kids adjust to change better than adults?:rotfl:
We visited DHs relatives and had a great time.

Stitch - stay strong! And tell your DD to immediately apply for WIC, even though she'll be moving to you soon. It is an assistance program that will cover her and the baby starting now through age 6 yrs. It's only for food items that are considered non-luxury items (rice, milk, cheese, peanut butter, etc.), but it is a big help for the moms who need it.

Hope everyone else is enjoying the summer:thumbsup2

Thanks. Yes, someone suggested that to us also. I told DD to make sure she applied for that since it will be a great help to her.

I sure would love to go to Scotland or Ireland. We have relatives in Ireland and they always tell us how beautiful it is out there.

We have the movers set up. They are coming Aug 2nd early in the morning. I am now making lists of who I should contact, what I should cancel, so on. Sure hope I do not forget anything. I am so excited and yet so nervous.:confused3Can't wait to see DD since it has been a long time. Dread unpacking everything but can take our time so I guess it won't be too bad.

Really dread the drive down there. 5 1/2 to 6 hours with two cats in the back in carriers. DH is taking our other cat. Of course I am getting the loudest. :laughing:Think we will be making extra potty breaks.

Everyone enjoy the weekend coming up and stay cool.

Just a short shout out to everyone here. I feel like a stranger here.

Hope everybody is well, having a good summer, albeit a hot one.

Susan, good news. You are always in my prayers.

Hi Dan. Thanks so much.
Thank you everyone else for your advice and well wishes.

Just popping in for a little breather from all the phone calls having to be made and the packing. Have a bit more but leaving it until the almost last minute. Now we have all sorts of people who want to get together with us for a final good bye. Some are people who seldom if ever bothered with us all these years until now. :confused3:laughing:

DD and DH are at a concert at Naper Settlement. DD's final hurray for the area before we leave it. Figured her summer has been a real bummer due to money, trying to sell the house, trying to find a place to rent to own so on. So I figured we had to do at least one special thing for her. So far the storms are laying low so they should be having a good time.

Guess I will look at a few more thread and then get back to work. Hope everyone is staying dry and cool. Be back later.

Hi all-
I haven't been here in a long time, been MIA.

Want to say hi to all here on the Chicago thread! :wave2:

My life has been crazy the last few months :faint:. School was very busy this past school yr. Enjoying the summer with the kids. My DD, Chrissy, was in summer school and that just ended. My DS, Matthew, was in band class for about 3 weeks, that just ended, too.
Chrissy is going to have heart surgery in 2 1/2 weeks from now, so we are enjoying summer before she has her surgery.

Also doing lots of stuff with my DS's boy scout troop.

Hi to Slo, Geffric, Dan, Stitchfans, Mac, Becky, Piglet, Kim, and everyone else I missed

Stitchfans- well wishes and prayers for your move.

Hi all! Hope everyone is dry! We're just back from DHs family reunion in NJ this weekend. We toured Philly on Fri then the party on Sat and drove home today. We're exhausted but happy we went. All of DHs family lives out east and our kids don't really know that side of the family so we made the very long trek out for the party. We missed the big storms, luckily we did not get any water.

roseprincess - hope all goes will with DDs surgery.

Stitchfans - glad to hear things are moving along for you. Hope it continues to go well.

Dan - :wave2: Glad you stopped by.

Blue Irish - Welcome to the Chicago thread!! Hope you stop by again.

natashag76 - wow, what a great trip! Would love to tour Scotland. Went to Glasgow for the Irish Dance World Championships but didn't really have time to tour. Maybe some day......

disneygal - :wave2:

Crissup - would love to hear about the cruise! Welcome back!

KimRaye - :wave2:

Becky - we're thinking of driving to WDW for Tgiving week. It will be a first for us. Not really appealing to think about after our 14hr drive each way this weekend though. ;) Airfares are just too high and then to multiply that by 5 makes it out of our budget.

Well, my DIS time is over. Have to get things ready for tomorrow. DS has day camp and I have work. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! :flower3:

Good Morning Friends! :flower3: I'm starting to really miss posting everyday. I have developed a ridiculous addiction to Bejeweled Blitz on facebook. Even my dad noticed I wasn't spending all my time here anymore. So I'm doing my best to limit my play time so i can spend some time on the boards. lol. ANYWHO! For some reason, Mike and I thought we needed to make our ADRs for our anniversary trip at the end of August but it turns out it's the end of Sept. Regardless, we talked through our choices last night and I think this is what we are going to do. your thoughts?

Kouzzina
Ohana
Biergarten
Narcoossee
Les Chefs de France
Chef Mickey's (for breakfast)
and possibly... (if we can save up enough)
Victoria and Alberts for our Anniversary dinner.

I'm very excited!

Natasha ~ Scotland sounds beautiful! Glad you had a good time.

Blue Irish ~ Welcome! Welcome! Please post often!

Stitch ~ Good Luck with all your upcoming changes! I'm keeping you and your fam in my thoughts!!

Dan ~ how's it going?

Piglet ~ how's your summer going?

Rose ~ sounds like you've had a busy summer!

ID ~ glad you guys were able to make it to the reunion and had a good time!

Slo, Geffric, Tiggern, Mac, Leigh, Bunchy, and everyone else ~ :wave2: hope everyone is enjoying the rest of summer!

Hi everyone.
Just a quick pop in. Tomorrow our phone, internet, so on will be shut off. Monday morning we will be leaving. Tuesday or Wed we will have phone, internet, cable so on again, but chances are I will be busy unpacking so on.

Today I have to run over to the hospital to see my dad and say goodbye. Then spend the rest of the day packing. Tomorrow will be the last minute packing. Funny packing it all up just to unpack it all up a couple of days later.

So much work. Then DD will be dropping in with all her things on Friday the 5th. The 7th the whole village is having a big garage sale so if there is something we can not use or something we need we can hopefully get it there. :thumbsup2

The early Oct there will be a festival like day called Catskins Day. From what I hear it is a lot of fun. Runs for 4 days. Will have to take a break from unpacking and DH will have to take a break from working so we can check it out. Then right after youngest DD settles into school I will attack the streets looking for a job. That is if our money holds out if I need to look sooner I will.

Again like I have said over and over sure would be great if this house sold so we could sign a big sigh of relief. Hope everyone is having a great day. Enjoy the weekend. Talk to you all when I can.

Sorry I have been MIA.. but I have a good excuse this time.. i broke my foot Sat night.. came home from work, went to close the window in the family room, went over the treadmill and came down on the wrong side of my foot.. heard a pop and landed face first on the ground.. went to the ER, layed there for hours, xrayed and diagnosised as a broken foot.. given vicodine and told to elevate the foot, ice and call the ortho Monday.. luckily the doc could see me Monday, have surgery scheduled for Friday.. boo hoo... no WDW trip for me .. although my son did say it would be fun on the scooter but alas no.. i cant even drive for 8 weeks.. will have a cast after the swelling goes down from the surgery..

anyway, now i am on a forced vacation...:confused::sad1:

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the broken foot. Hope the surgery goes well and you mend fast.

geffric, so sorry to hear about your broken foot. I did that to my ankle in 2007. Summer in a boot is no fun!!! I was grateful at least I did not need surgery. Hope all goes well for you and that you heal quickly.

geffric - ouch! Sorry to hear about your foot. Hope the surgery goes well and that you're up and about again soon.....

Just a quick pop in. Arrived at 10:30 in the evening Monday evening. Been busy unpacking, cleaning so on ever since. Still a mess. But a really nice house. Has a lot of potential. Tomorrow oldest DD is suppose to arrive to move in. Then Saturday is the "whole village" garage sale. We plan on selling a few items and hoping to pick up a few.

We are constantly being bugged by her Realtor. She is insisting on us having the living room carpet torn up since there is hard wood floors under it. We steam cleaned it a million times and she claims there is still the smell of cat pee in it. We used the strongest detergent out there. None of us smell a thing just before we left.

She claims it will take a year or maybe better if we do not have it torn up. We just do not have the money. She is demanding other things too and as said we put so much money into the house and do not have any more to sink into it. Thinking of firing her and trying to break the contract early.

Love this area though and if it wasn't for her all would be super.

VERY SLEEPY. Off to bed. Good night.

Does anyone know when they will have the next Doorway to Dreams event? From what I can remember, had one during the summers of 2007 and 2008.

Rat.. check the podcast crowd boards for the next event.. maybe soon once the hawaii dvc is ready..

Susan = nice to hear from u.. glad things are going well.. realtor sounds a bit unreasonable.. maybe does she have a buyer in mind?? check the contract before dismissing her.. maybe a huge penality clause with a big payout to get out of it..

i am doing fine.. getting real bored so i must be mending.. went to the dr friday and got a boot.. boy that is heavy.. but also bought a recliner, so I can get in the family room now

Hi everyone. Just popping in. See not too many people have stopped by here. Been looking for a job, no luck yet. One of our oldest cats, Bambi is very ill. I fear she is dieing. Money is very tight and we can not afford to take her to a vet. She won't eat, drink and just sleeps.I sure hope she goes quickly and with very little pain.

The other day we got a phone call from our Realtor. There was a storm out our way that broke off a huge hunk of a dead tree of our neighbors. Our jungle gym/swing set is totally destroyed bent in half. The roof of our garage is a bit beat up and all the wires to the house was torn down.

We had to hire an electrician who charged us $750.00 to fix some kind of pipe or something before ComEd could restore the power. Trying to get the neighbor to foot the whole bill since they were told over and over about the dead tree. It has been dead for about 8 months now. Figures all this happens when we are 5 and half hours away. Our Realtor is coming in handy though because she is doing her best to handle most of the problem for us.

Oldest DD moved back in with us. She is a little over 5 months pregnant. She is real testy due to this. Life has been very "interesting" with all that has been going on. Sure wish things could calm down and become somewhat normal.
