Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi all! Back from vaca and trying to wade through the mail, email and laundry. Hard to get back in the swing of things. Half of us are still on break, DS9 is the only one back to school and DH returns to work tomorrow.

Spent Easter with my aunt and uncle in Charlotte. It was very nice. DHs cousin also gave us a tour of their town, DH is now even more interested in moving.

Had my first day of work at the library today, think I will like it. They are pretty busy and I like being busy.

Hope everyone is well and had a great holiday. Have to run and get dinner on the table. Stay warm and dry! :flower3:

got my tickets for $168 and that includes tax on United for my fall trip.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Busy busy busy... we leave one week from today:cool1: I'm shipping two HUGE boxes of stuff for the wedding down to BLT. I'm pretty sure they will think I'm nuts but hey, it's better than paying for it all to come on the plane with me! One box has all our breakables (toasting flutes, sand ceremony vases, etc.) so it's thoroughly packed with bubble wrap. The other box that weighs a ton has all kinds of stuff for our welcome bags in it. Food, first aid supplies, etc. and the silk floral is also in that box so the groomsmen flowers, bridesmaids bouquets, corsages, etc. My dad is dropping them off at the UPS store for me today seeing as the last pick up is at 6 and I don't get off the train until 6:15. When we talked to the guy at the store yesterday he said if they go out today they should arrive on Tuesday so that's good. Oh and my dress is being shipped too, but that's in it's own box and going to get steamed and delivered to me by the tux people!

Stitch ~ glad to hear you had a nice trip to Carrier Mills. :wizard: hope you sell your home soon!

ID ~ welcome back from vaca! Hope it was excellent! Hope you enjoy the library. I also like being busy!

Geffric ~ when are you going? I was really hoping Harry Potter would be open for our trip b/c it kept saying SPRING 2010... June is NOT spring:sad2: oh well, I'll get there eventually

Mac and Kim ~ those are awesome deals on flights. :thumbsup2

Everyone ~ :wave2: hope you all are doing well!

Hi everyone!

Keeping busy here with kids, school and house showings. It would be nice if one of the many people who have been here to the house would buy it so we could move back!!

There were a few days with my FIL, before we all went to Long Beach CA for spring break, that were VERY trying on everyone. He's having a hard time dealing with not driving any more. And he's in total denial he has memory issues now that it's been officially diagnosed. And he's having a hard time dealing with his limitations.

It's a full time job some days just dealing with him. I need a break. I'm thinking of taking the kids to DL a weekend some time soon. Leaving DH with his dad, as he cannot be left alone anymore.

geffric We cannot wait to get to see the new HP World!!!

Michelle What did you make for Easter dinner?

disneygal I've shipped with UPS to WDW before and it all arrived on time and in perfect condition.

irish dancer Hope the new job works out well for you. I like to keep busy too.

Wow, sorry I didn't know Nicole! Hope things improve with your DFIL.

6/10-6/21. Have any plans for 6/20? We'll be checking out and swapping on the 21st, but the 20th we'll be at MK, and we have a possible 2 ADRs, who knows by then if we'll have any left tho!

Hi everyone.
Bought our new vanity and sink at Menards. Price wasn't too bad but the service was awful!! :headache: Now we have to paint the bathroom before all of it is installed. Along with that the guy doing the work will put in a new floor. After that a little more painting and the house goes on the market.

My oldest DD, as usual was talking to her father and as usual against my request told him what we were doing. IMO my business is none of my ex husband's business. Any way, I am aware that he buys houses, and then rents them out. He told her that he has some investment friends who do the same.

Yes, he suggested that I call him to discuss this. I told her to call him and tell him to give the investment friends my phone number. I really do not want to deal with him so her calling him is better. Now I am wondering. I know it will eliminate going through a realist-ate office but my ex said we would be saving the cost of a lawyer too. :confused3

Would it not be in our best interest to at least hire a lawyer to make sure all is legal and all? I know the investment friend will have one I think we should too. After all how much can a lawyer charge for something like this? :confused3

We are trying to save and get as much money as possible to pay off all the bills and medical debt, but I want to make sure we are not cheated in any other way. All this is so confusing and so stressful. The move is suppose to eliminate a lot of our stress but getting there sure is piling on a load of it.

As it is we are putting ourselves further into debt since we don't have the money to remodel and have to put all the supplies, (paint, vanity, sink, faucet, so on) on our charge card. :headache:

I sure hope we are making right choices and decisions as we go along this "new journey" in our lives.

Hope everyone else is having a great weekend because mine is a bit :upsidedow:upsidedow

ABSOLUTELY get a lawyer! I don't know exactly where you live now, but a lawyer's fee can run from $400-$600 (?), it depends. They don't get paid until closing tho, so you're not out-of-pocket upfront. (I work for a real estate attorney ;) ) First off, who's gonna prepare your closing documents? I have no clue what your ex means by saving the cost of a lawyer! :confused3 The biggest chunk of money you'll save by dealing with your ex, is the real estate AGENT! They are grossly overpaid for what they do as compared to an attorney, with a law degree, and the attorney gets maybe $500 average?! :sad2:

Stitch ~ I agree with Kim. DEFINITELY get a lawyer! Ours we just used was $500 and really did a lot for us. I can't imagine how stressed out I would have been with out him.

Thanks Kim. Good to hear that we wouldn't have to pay him/her until closing and not out of pocket. That would really hurt us. As far as who would be preparing the closing documents- it would be my ex's attorney. (that is what he meant)

My ex is a control freak so when we got our divorce I did not have a lawyer representing me for very long since I could not afford one for the duration of the divorce. We ended up using his. I still "made out" fine though in spite of that. He did not cheat me in any way. But considering I am remarried and he does not like DH I can not be sure about that now.

Since ex was so controlling there is plenty of situations where I would not be aware of how to handle them. I am still learning as I go along even at my age. The old saying of learning by your mistakes. Well I no doubt am a perfect example of that.

Hello all! Long time since I checked in.
DG, congrats on your exciting news! I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get some added pixie dust and end up with a show on your resume! And have a great trip (in case I don't get back here in time to wish you well on your wedding).
Stitch, best of luck to you on selling your house and getting just what you are looking for in your move.
Rose, Happy Birthday to Matthew and Chrissy. Will think good thoughts for her on her surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery come August.
Mac, thanks for the listings.
To all of you planning a trip for this summer, I hope you all get great deals, free dining, and upgrades!!!!!!
Well, off I go to finish the wash. Just returned from a week in the Lake of the Ozarks. So now it's catch up with the wash and put the stuff away. Why is that such a tedious task?!:rolleyes1

Thanks for the plug dg, and I'm glad your attorney was a good one! :thumbsup2

Well, who is paying that attorney? :confused3 My advice, use your ex's assistance in the sale - maybe - but NOT his attorney - someone will have to pay that attorney, and better it be someone YOU chose! ;)

I keep meaning to drop in here and introduce myself and now I'm bored with nothing to do, so... Hi! I'm Dana, 25, born and bred in Chicago :) I work third shift (hence posting at 5:30am) at an assisted living facility in the Lincoln Park area and live near the north end of the Brown Line. I've been a Disney fan for a long time, but my first trip wasn't until I was 19 and on the College Program. My dad works in construction and my mom at Dominick's, so we never had the money to go (I also have a brother and sister), and had to make do with Great America. I'm a horror and sci-fi geek and love going to rock concerts, but I haven't been to one in a long time.

Anyway, I hope to get to know some of you guys! Have a great day! :flower3:
