Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi everyone!!! :wave2:
I'm sorry I haven't been here in FOREVER
Now that I don't post in the mornings, I seem to not have much time in the afternoon to post.
I do go on facebook alot, but that's because it's so fast - it takes me under 5 minutes to catch up on what is going on.
I did mention on facebook that I tried to post here a couple of days ago - 3 times, and my computer kept locking up when I hit the "submit" button, and then everything I "copied" disappeared:headache: I don't know if any of you saw that "update" on facebook.

Business is still very slow, but I do have enough work to keep me occupied throughout the day. Then at 3pm is when Katie gets here, and I like to give her my undivided attention :goodvibes

Not to much new going on around here.
I lost my employee of 2 1/2 years, so I am now training a new employee, which is always takes a lot of time. She's a real nice girl, and I think she is going to fit in well around here:thumbsup2

I can't believe we started Lent yesterday - where is the time going?????
I still have my nativity up from Christmas (I love it so much, that I couldn't bring myself to take it down). I'm going to have to put it away though when the Easter decorations come up - that would be a little weird to have a Christmas decoration up in April:laughing:

I need to catch up on everything that is going on around here - I haven't posted since the end of January

I gotta run and eat some lunch, and then get some more stuff done around here. I will try and be a better DISer and post more often.

Have a good rest of the day!!!

Well, I'm on day 5 of getting my life back in order fitness wise. Many of you may remember that I was doing real awesome with my walking, and I was up to walking 6 miles, and training myself to walk the Disney 1/2 Marathon. What you don't know, is that when Kevin lost his job, I completely stopped working out - I got in a total slump!!! I stepped on the Wii Fit the other night, and it said that it had been 344 days since my last time using that  I knew it had almost been a year, but when you see that number, it's like:eek::eek:

So, Monday morning I started getting up at 5:30am and working out again, and preparing myself to start walking outside once the time changes (I don't like walking in the dark). I started watching what I am eating again, which is also something I didn't do when Kevin was unemployeed. When I would spend the extra money to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, I would only buy enough for the girls - I didn't want to spend the extra money. I don't consider what I do with a food a diet, just a way of life. I am already feeling better, and less sluggish:thumbsup2 I gained almost 6lbs in my hiatas, and became alot less toned, and I'm hoping I can reverse that within the next couple of months {{fingers crossed}}. If not, so be it, I did it to myself, and I need to face it.

Working out is something I really need to do to help with my Raynauds too. It will help with my circulation, and hopefully help me not have any more flare-ups.

Speaking of that, I go to the Rheumatologist for the first time on Tuesday. I'm very curious on what he has to say about what is going on with me, and with my negative blood test (the test shows there's something not right within me, but they don't know what). I'm sure he's going to have me to take several tests, and if they don't show much, then Kevin has already said we are going to take a trip to Mayo's and see what they have to say. So, only time will tell!!!!

What are you all doing this weekend?
We are doing much of anything.
Tonight we are going to Station of the Cross at 7pm.
Tomorrow I work, and then just hanging out at home - maybe watch a movie
Sunday, hang out at home again - I have a lot to get caught up on:rolleyes:
So, pretty low key!!!

Well, I gotta run and get back to work.
Have a good rest of the day everyone!!!

Hi gang! TGIF! I do have to come into work for 2 hours on Saturday which doesn't make me too happy but it doesn't happen often.

I loved watching men's figure skating on the Olympics last night! I haven't watch as much of the Olympics as I normally do and I just don't know why.

Slo - It is soooo good to see you back again. Good luck working out and shedding those pounds the creeped upon you. I hope your doctor's appointment goes well, too.

Bunchkin - Hang in there with you rmove to FIL house! Send some 60 degree weather our way!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Lori

What a snowy wonderland around here.
The snow is heavy, but it is very very pretty - and that is coming from someone that hates winter!!!!

How was everyone's weekend?
Mine was okay - busy as normal:rolleyes:
I've been spending alot of time at church with Lent.
Wednesday was Ash Wednesday
Friday was Stations of the Cross
Saturday was Mass
Sunday was discussion with the priest and some others on way to implement more adult formation programs and family formation programs. This will be a challenge, but we are hoping it can be done :wizard:

momto1 - Thanks!!!!:goodvibes Also, thanks for the good luck with the working out - it's hard to get motivated again:rolleyes: Once I start seeing a difference in my clothes, it won't be so hard anymore.

Well, it's time to get to work
Have a good rest of the day!!!

Hi gang! Just a quick check in because I am swamped at work today.

Spring must be right around the corner. The morning doves are back nesting in my kitchen window box! They came home yesterday.

Slo- I am with you on being busy at church. DS has volunteered to help with an upcoming dinner event. He must have signed up to volunteer with everything - he has been scheduled to sell tickets on Ash Wednesday and between services on Sunday, set up the day before the event and then serve the day of the event. It is good for him to be involved.

Hi to all!
Lori

Hey everyone! Thanks for the congrats! :) I'm really looking forward to next year! Turnabout was fun. It's laundry night here for me as I try to remember to move it from the washer to the dryer and then get another load going. My loads are like five pieces of clothes but they are like necessary to do or else I won't have clothes for this week. I guess this is how its going to be next year unless I just load up on clothes so I can go a month without doing laundry... Have a good night/time till I check in next :)

momto1 So jealous of your July trip to Disney. I'd die to go even with the heat! That's a great flight deal!
Stitchfans Hows the dance planning going?

*pops in because my mom isn't on*

I was supposed to go to turnabout with my guy friend. Last night on facebook he said he "forgot" that some other girl asked him. So I'm not going because he blew me off for some girl that hates me. Now he cut his hair really short and is dying his hair black because she has black hair.

That snow was crazy heavy yesterday wasn't it?!?!
I didn't shovel it, but Kevin did, and he was exhausted afterwards :faint:

Tonight is my first Rheumatologist appointment.
I sure hope I don't have to wait to long, because I need to get home to help Stephanie with her homework.
If it does go long, I'm going prepared - I have PotC3 on my ipod, and that is 3 hours long - I sure hope I'm not waiting that long :upsidedow

I just got a messge from my college employee telling me she's coming home for Spring Break - I"m so excited!!! I'm going to schedule her a couple of days so I get a break from this place. One thing I'm going to do is pull Stephanie out of school on that Friday, and take her to the Field Museum - just the two of us!!!! It will be a great day, and I'm not going to feel guilty taking her out of school, because she going somewhere educational :thumbsup2

chell - In my absence, I missed what everyone congratulated you on  Will you please fill me in. :)

Stitchfans Jr - So great to see you!!!! Please come by anytime!!!!!:goodvibes

Well, I must finish my lunch and get back to work.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Hi guys! Just a quick drive by.....Been reading along but there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day lately! Busy job hunting and keeping up with laundry, cleaning, homework, kids, etc.

slo - DH snowblowed thankfully! They were talking the the radio that it was "heart attack" snow (heavy!).
*Best of luck at the Rheumatologist, hope you're not there for 3hrs!

StitchfansJr - Welcome! Sounds like your guy friend needs a smack upside the head. :sad2:

mac - thanks for the listings, think we have a series for the Cake Boss, will have to see if we got the Disney one.....

momto1 - I'm thinking spring too! It was so sunny on Friday and I could hear the birds chirping, hoping we're almost done with winter - I'm ready!

Bunchkin - hope all is going well with FIL, don't ya just love family!

:wave2: to everyone else! Hope all is going well with everyone!!

Well, the dryer buzzed so have to run and grab the clothes before they get too wrinkled. have a great day all!!

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to pop in and catch up on everybody. We've got drama at DDs school with her teacher. I can't figure out her deal. DD is doing great, top reading and math group, has her buddies to play with. Yet the teacher is constantly hounding me that there's a "problem." :headache: I can't figure out what the problem is and the teacher can't spell it out either. I've spoken to other parents who've dealt with this lady and they all had the same issue. In the meantime, DD claims she doesn't like school. This is a very big problem when she's only in the 1st grade!
Anyone else have ridiculous teachers and how did you deal? I would appreciate any advice and moral support because I'm going nuts!
Just had to vent, you guys. Thanks.

Is the teacher sub-par? Is she not challenging your DD? Could be your DD is BORED! If your DD is 'top' in her groups, the teacher may be spending more time with the Not-top kids. This happened to us, in 1st grade also, all the things I stated. Teacher left after 1 year, but WE still had to deal with her the year she Was there! Best wishes!

Hi everyone. I see my DD has been visiting and has updated you all on the latest with the dance.
I agree ID he does need a smack upside his head.
Can not believe how many bags of clothes and stuff that we have loaded into the Amvets bins by Target. Whew! So much stuff we have been just hanging onto for no reason. Still more cabinets to go. Cleaned out all of the closets. Still need to look under the bed in the spare bedroom. Who knows what we will find under there. :scared

Hope everyone's days are going great and you aren't getting hit with too much of this horrible snow. We got another dusting which would be about a quarter of an inch. Well back to work to look under the bed. :headache:

I walked into the Rheumatologist last night with knowing about my Raynauds, and I walked out being diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel in both hands, along with the Raynauds:eek: Now I need to sleep with my hand in a brace, and take an anti-inflammatory for the next 6 weeks (3 weeks with one hand, and then 3 weeks with the other hand). If that doesn't work, than I need to get a cortisone shot in each wrist:eek::scared1: I hate those!!!!! So, I'm hoping this first treatment works for me.

When it comes to the Raynauds, I need to go for some more blood work, that will show if I have auto-immune diseases, which could be the underlying cause of the Raynauds.

I go back to the doctor in 3 weeks, so I will keep you all posted!!!!!

nat - We are not very fond of Stephanie's teacher this year either:sad2: When I have an issue, I first go to the teacher, and if that doesn't work, I go straight to the principal. I don't have time to play games with teachers. I know it's hard, because you don't want to "rock the boat", but sometimes you have to. If I did a crappy job at my store, people would complain to me, or call the Better Business Bureau. Irregardless of your profession, you need to do it to the best of your ability, or deal with the consequences!!!! I hope everything works out for you, and that your DD doesn't get to discouraged!!!:wizard::wizard:

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta get to work - lots to do!!
Have a good day!!!

Hey everyone!! :wave2:

We spent the weekend at Disneyland! The kids had a 3 day weekend again so we took off on Thursday night for DL. Surprisingly, the crowds were so manageable. I expected heavy crowds because a lot of California schools have the week off. I guess the weekend before, Presidents Day weekend, was heavy according to some Castmembers we spoke to. Yay for low crowds!! :cool1: We ate too many beignets all weekend at the Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney!! :goodvibes

Right now I'm surfing for info on San Pedro, CA. We are taking FIL there during spring break. Looking into staying in Long Beach in a hotel right on the beach. The guys are going to go fishing at the ocean and I'm planning on taking DD to the American Girl store in LA. Should be fun!

slo Braces at night....no fun. :sad2: I hope they help!! I've had cortisone shots in my feet when I had plantar fasciitis so I know how painful they can be. :(

stitchfans JR Sorry to hear about what happened with your date. It does sound like you're better off though not have gone with him. He sounds like a total tool!!!

natashag Our DD is tops in her classes and was not challenged by her teacher when she was in 3rd grade. She always said she was bored. I ended up having a meeting with the teacher and principal. There are very few things in life I can control, but my kids education is one of them and I'll always strive to make sure it's the best that can be offered. Good luck. :goodvibes

mac Thanks for the listings! How are you feeling?

Well, I should go check on my laundry and check into these hotels. I need to make a reservation soon.

Have a great day!! :wave2:

Hey. :) Yay for three days weekends! Hahah, last day of school for the week today. But I've got work tonight, Friday, and Sunday. But I'm going to the Art Institute tomorrow, snowboarding Saturday, and planning for a summer trip with my friends Sunday morning. So I think everything outweights working. Anyway...uh yah, and that's about all I've got going on...the snow wasn't that bad? It looks really pretty and is perfect for boarding Saturday!

StitchfansJr Dang girl. We've already discussed this but still ugh ugh ugh :(
slo I got into my two art schools, one with a large scholarship :)
Arg that sounds so frustrating with your hands!! I hope you don't need the shots and things get better with them.
natashag76 I hope you find a way to deal with the teacher! I have no advice as I'm still dealing with my own teachers (and not well... I had to transfer out of a class I wanted this year because I wasn't allowed to be in the teacher's class after last year...:rolleyes1) Try the principal maybe?
Bunchkin A weekend at DL! Lucky! Glad to hear you guys had a good weekend trip :)

Thanks for all the support. I'm supposed to have a meeting with the teacher, resource room teacher, social worker and general studies director sometime in the next week. DD attends a parochial school so we've got a lot of administration to deal with. The principal is a little aware of what's going (I cc'd him on an email to the teacher). Of course, the next day his wife had a baby! So he's a little preoccupied I think :goodvibes
Nevertheless, I've got DD scheduled for an OT eval just so that I can get the school off my back. I also have an eval scheduled to determine her aptitude - not quite a gifted test, but the same general idea, to determine if she needs a little more mental stimulation than what she's getting. The teacher I feel is a lost cause. She's been in the school for over 20 years. Hopefully she'll retire before my next 2 go to 1st grade!

I pretty much did the same things with my DD back in 1st grade, in a sense to PROVE she needed more help as far as education and stimulation. Many times, I was told the OTHERS will catch up with her and she won't be bored Next Year! Well, HELLO - so, she wastes an entire year being bored, not liking school, while the OTHERS catch up with her? This was followed, 2 years later, with a teacher who again spent Most time with the 'needing' students.

Look, I'm not begrudging those children an education either, but if MY DD is bored, there's a problem there too!! Who else should deal with that? :confused3 Our tuition costs the same as those others. :rolleyes1 (Sorry, this WAS a sore spot with me and DDs school - I guess it still is)

Be an advocate for your DD, you're her only one! :thumbsup2

natashg: I went to a parochial school (lutheran) and was bored. I don't think they do it anymore, but I skipped 2nd grade. (this was back in the 60's). it worked out great! (yes, around 7th 8th grade other girls "blossomed" before I did) but I fit right in with everyone, and didn't have to waste a year of mylife listening to lessons I already kenw, etc.
check out if this is an option.
