Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hello friends! :flower3: so i leave for my solo trip a week from tomorrow and have NO idea what to pack for this time of year? I'm thinking probably jeans the entire time but will i need a coat or several sweatshirts? any suggestions? :confused3

i would be prepared for cold weather for the evenings.

take a look at todays tribune to see what orlando 's weather was like.

cold..........

have a great time on your solo trip.
you will love it!!

It's not unusual for it to be in the 70's during the day this time of year, then head down as low as upper 30's after the sun goes down. I used to wear shorts during the day if I expected to head back to the resort before going out for the night, otherwise jeans. Sometimes I would wear shorts all night, figuring I'd be inside anyway, but then get stuck waiting 15 minutes for the stupid bus and freeze my butt off.

So, plan for pleasant days (this time of year, even mid 60's is pleasant to a Chicagoan), and potentially cold evenings.

I have been in Orlando for some Dec where it was VERY cold all day and night..damp too.. and others when it was sunny and 70s..so
bring layers, jeans, t shirt, sweatshirt,lite jacket..etc

Maybe I will see you there, disneygal.

Check the weather a few days before your trip to get a rough idea. I am there most Decembers, and generally pleasant in the day, chilly to cold at night.

Thank you Mac! I am very much looking forward to it. I know I looked maybe 2 weeks ago and it was in the 40s. then DH looked a couple days later and it was in the 70s. I guess Florida weather is just as odd as Chicago weather (though much nicer all around) :goodvibes

Thanks Crissup! I will make sure to always have a sweatshirt with me! During the spring and summer, I usually don't want to wear or carry one around so I don't get odd tan lines but I don't think tanning in December is very usual

I'm thinking layers will always be good! maybe a long sleeve shirt under a tee or something. I can always take one off!

Maybe I will see you there, disneygal.

Hey Dan! I didn't know you were going to be down there! I'm staying at AS Sports and will make sure to keep my lime green mickey head dangling from my bag! Seeing as you go in December often, have you ever been to the candlelight processional thing in Epcot? I'm considering it but am not sure what to expect? Are there set times? thanks for the weather link! I'll be sure to check it!:thumbsup2

If you leave the sweater at home, then get cold in the parks, you then have a good excuse to duck into a shop and buy yourself a nice new Disney sweatshirt or jacket. ;)

One other point, if you follow ownerslocker on Twitter, John will frequently mention the weather as he heads for the resorts to make his daily deliveries.

Quick note to say hi to Chicago friends....meet last weekend looked great, I am so sorry we missed it! I am jealous of those going to the World soon...hope to hear some wonderful trip reports!

Stay warm and dry, all!:goodvibes

Layers are always good at WDW in Dec-Feb.

I will be at the Swan.

Here is a good rundown on the Candlelight Processional. I have seen it many times over the years, will be seeing it again this coming Wed. It is a very nice experience.

If you are doing a dinner/CP combination, you need to get in the proper line about 30 minutes or so before, if doing standby, probably an hour or more. And you can also just stand outside the perimeter of the American Theater and listen also, see some. It really is nice.

Again, hope to see you there.

disneygal We've been to WDW at Christmas time and other winter months as well. I would always start out in jeans, t-shirt and a hoodie. Take the hoodie off by lunch/mid day when the sun's the brightest. And end up in a coat with gloves by night time. The temps so drop at night.

House Crashers - Disney Holiday Special
The Mering family flies cross-country to help Josh and Trey
transform an empty event space into a Holiday Oasis for guests in time
for opening night. The build includes four tiki huts that need to be
framed, painted, covered in bamboo and thatching, then decorated. In
addition, a large background frame is built for photo opportunities
with characters, and the entire space is decorated to Disney
standards. Time is against them and failing is not an option because
Disney's Magic Kingdom's Holiday Party starts at 7pm sharp in just
three days. Along the way, Josh gets behind-the-scenes access and
learns how they wrap a 189-foot castle in Christmas light. The family
also learns the secret to making it snow on Magic Kingdom's Main
Street in Florida weather. And finally, Josh gets up close and
personal while workers install a 65-foot Epcot Icon tree.
