Bunchkin...just read your post about Tony's mother. What GREAT news! A wish for continued things going her way!!

Slo..how is your daughter feeling?

Becky..get well soon!

DMM...congrats on your upcoming trip! How is Roman doing?

Everyone...hello!!!...take care, Chicago friends!

tmq - I'm sitting with tears in my eyes - I am SO sorry for your stepdaughter to have to experience this and the family to have to go through this. Please let that family know, and your stepdaughter, that there are so many prayers out there for them and the university community is holding them all in their hearts.

Please, please, please let me know if there is anything we can do to help your stepdaughter. I'll send you a PM with my info.

I truly believe there was a reason we are not opening this week to classes - the students need to be able to attend these funerals and services to help with the process of healing. Unfortunately, I wasn't in the office today to find out if that is the reason but it had been something I had heard before leaving yesterday.

Chris

wow what goodnews on the cancer being gone Bunchkin!!

DMM I though you said your son was having surgery in approx 2 weeks?
Will you be able to travel with him right after having his tubes put in his ears

Yup, he is having surgery on the 26th and we leave on the 29th. As long as nothing goes wrong with th surgery the Dr. said it was best we wait until after the surgery to go because he will be perfectly fine. (just no swimming of course :) ) He said he would be 100% better off than had we flown with him before surgery.

Hi everyone, Just wanted to drop in to send my prayers to the NIU families.. One of the girls killed in the incident was my stepdaughters very close friend..and one of the wounded was a sister to another of her friends. She is having a very difficult time dealing with this loss. She is on her way over to hang out and spend the night. Next week is going to be a difficult week as well with the funeral and all

Oh no :sad2:  I'm so sorry to hear this. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and your family.

thanks for coming and sharing with us chris and mike.

we all are affected one way or another.

one of the young men that was hit is from antioch, not that far from me.
it was written up in detail in the waukegan sun times this morning.

keeping all in prayers and thoughts.

and, going to church tomorrow, have your backs covered for the week....

Wow, Katie and I just woke up - that's late for us!!!!!

Katie is still not 100%, but I do think she is getting better. (thanks to all who asked)
I didn't give her any Motrin yesterday, so that's good (I do think she had a very low grade fever still, in the afternoon, but I thought it would be good for her body to have that fever help fight its battle). I started giving her Musinex for kids, and that seems to help her cough be a lot more productive, and I also started putting saline spray in her nose - she said that helps too. I also bought a new warm air vaporizor for her, and put that next to her bed all last night, and I think that really really helped her. She slept alot more peacefully, and she woke up more happy this morning. So, hopefully today will be a better day for her (fingers crossed).

I just talked to Kevin, and he is having a good time in Florida. He called from the race track, and he said that it was 82 and sunny :sunny: He sounds a little homesick though, and we miss him too. He doesn't come home until Wednesday.
*While he is gone, he finalizing our trip date for our vacation this year. We will be gone the last week of October, and we are staying at his parents time share, that is right outside of WDW property. It is spacious condo, where the girls will have their own room, and we'll have our own room w/ bathroom, and we'll also have a living room, and kitchen - it'll be a ton of room, and we'll only be paying $149 for the whole week. It'll be weird staying off property, but this place will be really really nice for us!!!!!:thumbsup2

The girls and I are just chilling out all day today, and we did last night too. We rented a ton of movies that we are going to watch. Last night we watched Hairspray, and I LOVED IT!!!!! I told Stephanie that we may have to buy that movie :scratchin. Today we are watching Jump In, with Corbin Bleu, because we have never seen that movie all the way through. I also bought Rataullie (sp?) and we'll watch that today too - we are going to be official bums today :teeth:

DMM - Congrats on the great order, and being able to go to WDW in a couple of weeks:woohoo: I'm going to start selling stuff on ebay for my store - Kevin is going to help me set it up, and I'm hoping the store can make some extra money this way.
**I agree with the doctor about the flying. Roman will be more comfortable with the tubes in, because there will be less pressure :) When it comes to swimming/bathes, he can do these things, he just needs ear plugs. I recommend the silicone ones, because you break off as much as you want, to help it fit in the ear (kinda like playdoh). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I've been doing this for 6 years now

momto1 - Enjoy your day off tomorrow :cool1:

Bunchkin - How are you feeling today? Have you tried Musinex (sp?)? It seems to be helping Katie quite a bit (so far at least). I hope you feel better soon!!! :wizard:
**Everything went well with the girls at work yesterday. They've gotten so used to being there, that it's almost like being at home. Stephanie played with her DS and Webkinz all day, and Katie played and took a decent nap. I do love having them with me - it's great!!!!! :goodvibes
**That's such great news about Tony's mom!!!! :woohoo: I'll pray that she stays that way!!!

Mac - Please say a prayer for me, we skipped church this weekend. I wanted Katie to just stay home, and away from people

Becky - I"m glad you went to the doctor and got a antibiotic :) There are so many different form of strep - it's wild!!! Like I said before, when Katie had strep, she had red spots, no sore thoat, and no fever - imagine how shocked I was when she test positive for strep  (but it was better than the alternative, because they also tested her for staph:scared1: ) I hope you feel better soon :wizard:

HERSEY - Are you working tomorrow? If not, what do you and Alex have planned?

Cruise04 - So many hugs to you and everyone on that campus:grouphug: I'm so glad that you are safe, and everyone that you were with are safe:grouphug: Please comes by here often and visit, we would love to have you anytime!!!!! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers!!!!!!

DoctorP - So many hugs to you too!!!! I just can't get over how scary this must be for all of you!!! Please know that your Chicago DIS family is always here for all you (Cruise04, DS, you, and anyone else lurking that may not have posted yet), and we are always here to listen:grouphug: Please keep us posted, and we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers!!!!

Donna - I'm sorry to hear that Brian knew one of the victims. I bet this has made him sad

tmq - I am so sorry to hear about your stepDD's loss:guilty: This has got to be so hard for her  I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Well, I better get running and start breakfast - I am making us pancakes this morning. Have a good day everyone!!!

Wow I never knew this thread existed...I am joining in!!! We live in Naperville and LOVE Disney. Thanks for making this thread :goodvibes

PS..Where is the fire wives thread...I would like to join that one tooo!

Good Sunday everyone!!

DD had a sleepover last night that went really well......for a change!! Last one was not so good!! :sad2:
We all went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and then came home and watched a movie we rented, Game Plan.
Has anyone else seen this movie? We thought it was very funny!! I may need to watch again today before it needs to be returned.

Chris and Mike So glad that both of you checked in as I was worried about your family. That's why I questioned if anyone knew if you both were ok. :grouphug:
Both you, the NIU staff and students, and of the victims have been in my thoughts and I will continue to pray for all of you.
I'm glad to hear that classes will not resume right away as everyone can take some time to seek help, or reflect, or attend services for those lost.

Don't be strangers to the thread!!

tmq I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your step daughter's friends. :grouphug: I hope she finds some solace in being able to spend time with their families and friends.

slo I have been using Mucinex for a while now both on myself and the kids. And have been taking it with round of colds. It does seem to help a bit. The thing is that I have no spleen and it takes a little longer for me to get rid of colds....and I catch them easier too.

I think your family is going to really enjoy having the extra space the time share will provide. I hope it's close enough that the drive to the parks will be a super short one!! :thumbsup2

WEBKINZ!!!! I admit to buying way too many of them for my kids!!! I just gave them each another one for Valentine's day!! :headache: But they really love them!! :lovestruc

DMM Are you guys flying or driving to WDW?

hahaha the Ankle Biters comment made me laugh!!!

We're flying! American had an OKAY deal, it was enough to make me book! hahaha!!!

oooo a meet, what fun! When is this movie supposed to be coming out? Our July is fully booked with out Mexico trip, but other than that we should be good :) :)

We of course will probably not do the movie because of Roman :)

Hi all-
Haven't been here in a couple of days.
First, prayers and :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: to all affected by the NIU shooting. How tragic :sad1:
Bless all the people counseling the victims families and students and staff affected by this tragedy :grouphug:

Glad everyone here that work or live at NIU are safe

Slo- Hope Katie feels better soon! :wizard: I think you asked me a few days ago about 5th grade band for Matthew. No, he doesn't march in the parade for band. The marching I think comes in in high school, I believe. I think they focus on the pep band in jr high(7th and 8th grade band). I guess I will find out all that if Matthew continues band for next yr.

DMM- hope all goes well with Roman's surgery :wizard:

Piglet too- Glad to hear your mom's surgery went well :thumbsup2

Bunchkin- glad to hear Tony's mom is doing well :thumbsup2
Dismeet sounds good :thumbsup2 Looking forward to seeing Wall-E.

Shout out to Geffric- haven't seen you in awhile. Sorry we couldn't make it to the pancake breakfast :guilty: Hope all went well, tho.

Hi to all

It's been many months since I visited the Dis Chicago thread. Just came by to catch up on any NIU talk.

When we were leaving the elementary school at 3:35 following Valentine's parties on Thursday, the crossing guard was discreetly giving parents a heads up on what was going on at NIU. The helicopters in the air when we went to my DDs dance class at 5:30 was like something straight out of a movies. We opted to get take-out that night for Valentine's and the restaurant was amazingly quiet. I'm sure business was really off everywhere that night.

By Friday morning in DeKalb, the city crews were out taking down the "winter" banners and putting the NIU & Huskie banners back up on the light poles. By Friday afternoon, someone had put red/white/black balloon bouquets on many light sculptures in town.

At our DDs elementary, the classes all made cards on Friday morning.

By Saturday, there were signs and posters throughout town. Yesterday was cold and sunny, but the stream of community folks into NIU was steady. Several memorial areas have sprung up around the campus. There were some amazing posters and messages at some of them. Walmart was OUT of flowers in their front case. The grocery store where we picked up flowers put many of their flowers on sale for the sake of the students. A clerk there offered to split the bundle of flowers we got so both my girls (ages 5 & 8) each has a bouquet to take. They tied them w/ red, black & white ribbon. No extra charges for the "extra."

It's unfortunate it started raining around 6 this a.m. ... many of the signs and posters are undoubtedly ruined.

I'm sure they will be replaced in the days to come.

The first message board set up in the common was full and another had been set up. Some of the notations written there ranged from heartbreakign to heartening.

The outpouring from the community is strong. DeKalb is grieving w/ NIU.

I was on campus this morning. Somebody was thoughtful enough to cover the memorial in front of the Holmes Student Center with plastic so the signs, etc. wouldn't get ruined by the rain.

It's very wet and icy here now. We had a very slippery time getting across the parking both at our apartment and at school. DD3 said yesterday that she wanted to go ice skating when she "grows up." I think she got her first taste of it today.

Hi everone I just wanted to drop in and tell everyone thanks for all the well wishes... my stepdaughte (Who I love like she were my own) seems to be holding up. The funeral is tomorrow..Hopefully being around other friends who are suffering as well will help ease her pain.. She has been doing alot of talking about the incident. This makes me feel much better knowing she is not bottleing up all the pain.
On a brighter note she receved her acceptance letter to the nursing program at ECC. She is one of 85 out of over 300. Whew that is a HUGE relief.

Congrats to her for getting to the nursing program. :thumbsup2
Talking helps but maybe a grieif counselor can help down the road with the other stuff that may pop up. This is something that shakes you in ways that are different for each person.
