There are quite a few of us. There was a posting on the Canadian board a couple of days ago. Your Ontario comment in slightly incorrect. If you buy while at WDW is doesn't matter where you live. In Ontario you can purchase while at home. I'm not sure if Disney has registered to sell DVC in any of the other provinces. I'm not sure if this impacts resale purchases.
We are owners at OKW and are from Winnipeg. What cslittle999 said is correct, if you are in Florida they can sell it to you, otherwise, back in Canada, Disney only sells to Ontario residents directly. In Florida and in some states and a few of Canada's provinces you needed to be registered as a real estate agent to sell timeshares. That's not the case in Manitoba (I know, because I am involved in regulating real estate agents), but Disney won't sell direct here as they are not registered as a real estate broker here (at least that was the response when I inquired, they wouldn't believe me when I said they didn't need registration I gues my e-mail signature line wasn't convincing enough )
We bought resale, and had no problems. Have a great first trip "home" in December! We'll be there too starting December 31, and can't wait to go!
If you are in FLA and purchase versus purchasing in Canada, are there limitations on the financing and where your live. I live in ON and own at SSR and financed my points but can you finance living in other provinces due to Disney only being able to sell in ON. I would think you would be able to finance from all provinces except possibly Quebec, I find many offers don't apply in Quebec. Anyone else finance in other provinces?
We live in BC and purchased BWV resale. It takes longer than buying through Disney, but when you're outside ON, the only options are to buy resale, wait until your next trip to WDW, or some even make a special WDW trip just to buy DVC. We had no trip scheduled and wouldn't bother travelling there all the way from the west coast just to buy DVC since we just got back from a trip, so resale was the choice for us. It was all relatively painless once we found the right contract.
Another option to west coaster's would now be to buy DVC at Disneyland.
Kitchener, Ont. DVCers here. Bought 150 pts. at SSR in January 2004, sight unseen and then did a 30 pt. add-on at SSR in the spring of 2005 after enjoying our 1st trip.
So far we've been to SSR and OKW on our points. We've sent DW's parents on their 40th anniversary to OKW. We'll be at SSR for New Year's -- 5 months and counting!
Just moved from Ontario to New Brunswick. Own at SSR. Best vacation purchase we ever made. Going back end of Nov. for a surprise trip for the kids. Can't wait.
