OK, here is the scoop... We are staying at AK from 4-11 thru 4-17 ... We are a family of 4, DH, DW, DD (14) and DD (16) who pretty much are not adventuresome eaters .. We are not in spicy things, etc...

Is Boma worth a try for us being that my daughters are so conservative and picky eaters..

DH and DW I feel would be willing to try more things..

Thoughts.. If you explain the type of foods that would be good, are there any American pods and is this food also good and what is it..

Thanks in advance.. I need some convincing.. Right now the ADR we have scheduled is for WCC...

Have you seen the rotating menu? Last time we went someone here had a menu that showed what they served each of the days (I guess it is sort of a rotation). THat might help you b/c you can see the real menus and even pick the day of the week that sounds best.

I wish I could remember exactly what I ate to help you out but it was 1 1/2 years ago. But I do remember the soups were great. My kids are little and not adventurous (probably ate 75 chicken strips that week) and they had no problem finding food.

We really enjoyed Boma. Hopefull you can find more folks who can give you better details. JJ

I am in the same boat Steve. I am going to AKL in Sept and have not booked a single meal there. Just did not feel like using 2 credits to eat at Jiko and Boma did not sound all that great to me.

Everyone talks about the great soups...and I mean everyone (so they must be good) but I don't think about eating warm soup in Flordia.

So I will be watching your post to see if I get Boma fever. :yay:

Ok, zinkie, this is how we found Boma to be...

On one of our trips, we had two people who would eat anything, one who was low carb, one who was vegetarian and one somewhat picky. At Boma, each one of us were able, not only to eat, BUT to eat very well and be fulled up to the rim between soups, salads, main meals and desserts. We were all able to find more than enough and I'm sure you will ALL be able to also.

Have fun...

We love Boma! We ate there for dinner the first time last October and will definitely go back. My DD's are 16, 12, and 2 1/2. Both my older DD's loved it. The foods, IMO, aren't really all that out of the ordinary. The night we were there they had ham and prime rib. The soups were amazing. Alot of the food is pretty close to stuff you might eat here, only with a little twist. I honestly didn't find much that was amazingly different. And it was fun to try the few things that were different. The desserts here are also wonderful, with NOTHING out of the ordinary that I remember. The zebra domes are great..loved 'em...but they are a little overrated. The other desserts were just as good and I ate plenty of 'em. I think its great to try once, anyway. Same goes with the breakfast there. Almost everything is pretty normal stuff and the Frunch juice is awesome!

OK I am going to tell you that this was the best breakfast buffet we ever ate at!!! I have a five year old very picky eater and this was one of her favorite meals as well. They have everything you could imagine. They have a seperate section with all the african food, so if you don't want that all the other food is american. They have an made to order omlletts and just a very big variety. We ate here twice for breakfast and hope to try it for dinner next time we go back! I also here the dinner is excellent. And oh, you will just love this resort! Have fun and defietely try Boma you won' be disappointed! One of the Staff members told us it was voted number one buffet in the U.S.A.

I personally am not fond of Boma and wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but I think that if you are staying at AKL anyway and it isn't a budget buster, you should give it a try. Plenty of people love this place. There are plenty of foods for the non-adventurous - and the adventurous foods aren't overly spicey.

We are adventurous eaters but we have been there with none adventurous eaters. And they were satisfied. They were able to eat spare ribs, prime rib or roast beef, and there always seems to be a type of roasted chicken. Many salads and usually a potato that they liked. Was it worth it for the adult picky eater, my Brother in law would say probably not, but he has to go anyway because it's his wife's favorite and she's a vegetarian.
There is of course the kids section that has mac n cheese, chicken fingers, etc.
For myself it's my favorite. I actually went down a few times to look at houses and I always made sure I ate there at least once.

The short answer: You never know if you won't like something unless you try it. Try it..if you don't like it..don't ever go back. We make our kids try things once and if they don't like it they don't have to eat it. They like alot of things they didn't think they'd like!

Longer answer: DH is adventureous..I am 50/50, but usually get the same few dishes when we go out and try DH's. DH didn't want to go here, I did so we went. Well, all of us loved it including my 2 yr old. It's not spicy..I hate real spicy food. There are signs telling you what the food is and someone standing there to answer questions. You won't like everything they have (I am sure that's true for other places as well). The boboti is really good, the prime rib was awesome and moist, the peanut rice was outstanding (sound gross though) and there's plemty more. Some things I didn't think I'd like, I liked. Some things I thought I'd like, I didn't. Because it's a buffet..you can put alittle of everything on your plate..sample it and then go back for what you like. Everyone's opinions are different, but helpful. The only true way to find out if you will like it is to try it. HTH

My husband and I have been to BOMA 3 times and every time we go, we swear we won't go back the next time...because we always overdo it! There is always a good variety of dishes available for any type of eater. I am a strict vegetarian (no meat, fish or fowl) and my husband will eat just about anything you put in front of him. The soups are really that good and the salads are very fresh, some with an interesting twist.

We were there last week and decided to eat at BOMA our last night. When I mentioned to the waitress that I was a vegetarian, she detailed all the items on the buffet that would appeal to me. Then, about 5 minutes later, the chef (TJ) came over to our table and offered to walk me through the buffet line in case I had questions about anything. THEN, about 20 minutes later (and well into our 2nd helpings!) TJ brought us a huge platter brimming with tempura mushrooms, sauteed tofu, chinese longbeans and cabbage, all cooked in an amazingly delicious sauce and completely vegetarian. We were stunned!! As if that wasn't enough, after we made our way through the majority of the platter, TJ came back to our table with a bowl of tempura oreos drizzled with chocolate sauce!! We could barely move after we were finished.

If you go to BOMA, check to see if TJ is working. He's the guy to talk to if you have any qualms about dining there. After our last experience, I can't imagine a trip to Disney without going to BOMA.

Our family does not care for dinner at Boma, but mostly because we don't like buffets, be it American or African or any other food. I just don't believe that you can mass produce food and store it in trays under heat lamps without affecting the quality of the product. IMO, there are just too many good dining options at Disney to opt for buffets.

However, we are glad we tried it, and, while we weren't crazy about the food, we really had a good time. The servers were wonderful, and we had a great evening.

Allsfan...

I just changed my ADR from WCC to Boma, so we will see how things go.. Thanks all for your replies...

If you go on Easter Sunday they serve Lamb for breakfast and dinner. I am a huge!!! lamb fan and it was great!!! They also had the other 2 carving meats for the day. I believe they were beef and pork
Enjoy!!!

my parents and i usually go to boma at least once per visit to wdw - usually for breakfast and sometimes again for dinner too. i definitely don't like buffets, so boma is the only one that we will go to. whenever we have gone, i feel that the food is replenished very often so that it is kept fresh, since it is such a large restaurant. there is american style food, but it's not really anything too special - other than this, many of the salads and side dishes are usually safe bets for less adventuresome eaters. also, my parents do not like many spicy foods and they have never had a problem finding things that they like at boma.

i am a vegetarian, so i like boma because i'm not restricted to only one menu option for dinner. i even converted my best friend (who also hates buffets) into a boma lover...the only problem we ever had there was that last time we ate so much that we could hardly walk afterward!

punkin - that sounds like a great experience you had with one of the chefs. i had a similar experience at boma during breakfast about 2 years ago when i asked our server about some of the vegetarian options. she brought out one of the chefs, Eddie Lucier, to describe some of the more unusual dishes in more detail...he also told me about several different ways that i could prepare quinoa and some of the other items at home. he was happy to talk candidly about his experiences working with the disney company - he is another great guy to ask for the next time you're there!

We hated Boma for dinner. It was our worse meal while at WDW. We're not timid eaters but there was very few items that we liked in the buffet. Spicy Durban chicken was not spicy and it was dry. Pork loin had some disgustingly sweet sauce all over it. Couscous was everywhere. Lots of salads (most with couscous) but a couple of the soups was ok. I loved the the different kinds of hummus and flat bread but one cannot justify the price of the buffet on hummus!

The desserts were great though.

We can say we've tried it now....but we won't go back. After all the hype on these boards, it was a big letdown.

You must have been with us on our visit. I am still hearing about this meal from every member of our group except my DH, who ate the prime rib, and declared it to be the best he ate during our stay. He disliked everything else. Everyone else continues to complain because they all know that I loved the meal, and Iwill be booking our ADR's on the next journey.

OP: I am so glad that you are going to try this restaurant. You never know who will enjoy the menu until you try it. I enjoyed Boma, and would love to go back.

We enjoy Boma. We've been to Chef Mickey's,Hollywood & Vine, The Crystal Palace,The Grand Floridian,etc..all for dinner. I got to the point where most of the food was the same. Everyone had prime rib, chicken, kid's food was about the same. We have a girlfriend (who is from Africa) & since she's been going with us every year we decided we would try it. She fully enjoys it. I love the potato salad. The salmon is very good. I just PS'd Boma for a group of 6 adults. Can't wait to get to Disney. April 22-29  :rotfl2:

I loved Boma as well as my family. The two 14 year old girls in our party, though, did not care for it.

If you KNOW you are not adventurous eaters, then, honestly, I would not go. $26.00 per person plus tax and tip is a lot of money to spend to eat out of "one" food pod and then some desserts. Just my opinion.

All.

Reading on Allsears, it seems that Boma has a Rotating
Menu on days of the week...

I know I am throwing sead to the wind, but :)

Does anyone know how to access the Tuesday Boma
Dinner Menu (or have you happened to eat there on
Tuesday for Dinner) and remember what they served up..

Any URL out there where this could be found?

Thanks,

Steve
