Well, in my waiting for resort discounts (will they ever come out?), we're thinking we should probably book something just incase. We're thinking of two rooms at one of the value resorts, but a bunkbed room at AKL would be fine.

Where are the bunkbed rooms located at? Are there many of them? Would it be better to get a standard view ($199) or pool view ($220)? Savanna view is $275, I'm thinking $275 is really pushing it for a standard size AKL room, but, who knows. Any suggestions for rooms?

Thanks!

Looks like you're not exactly a newbie when it comes to WDW:D
My .02 is that AKL is possibly the nicest resort on property. However, we find that we spend very little time in the room, and when we are there, we're ready to go to bed, or hurrying out to a park. I could certainly see having two rooms at a value.

We are just the opposite. The savannah view is very important to us. This is the only resort I can think of that makes you wish you were in your room while you are in the parks. You are wondering what animals are outside your room. And when you get back at night, you stay up later than you want so that you can stand outside and see what animals are sleeping outside your room...then you stay up late to watch them sleep.

As for the money...you have to decide. There are lots of public areas where you can go and see the animals, so it might not necessarily have to be from your room...but we always choose the savannah room.

This will be the first time since AKL opened when we will stay somewhere else. (DVC) But even then, we are spending our first night Savannah view at AKL.

Good luck with your decision and have a great trip!!!

We have stayed at AKL twice and both times were in a savannah view room with bunkbeds. It is really nice to be able to see the animals right outside the room. I believe most views do have bunkbed rooms. Our room was on the Zebra Trail, 3rd floor, about halfway down the hall. However, there are lots of viewing areas to see the animals so if you didn't want to pay for a savannah view room (and I agree $275 is pushing it but one time I got the AP rate of $189 and last summer did the FTP.) Have a great trip whatever you decide.

Although I don't know the numbers of rooms with bunkbeds in each price range, I do know that they are available in the standard, pool and savannah prices. For our trip next April, we had reservations for the standard view and had requested a room with bunkbeds and were told they were available. Then when the AAA discounts came out, we upgraded to the pool view and still have the bunk beds. If AP rates come out maybe we will upgrade to the savannah, but with a 12 year old DS and 9 year old DD we really need the bunk beds,so I have made sure that they were available in the various price ranges. I know that it is not guaranteed, but was told that based on the ages and different sexes of the kids that we should be happy. Of course just being there will make us happy :) :bounce:

We were in the same position on bunk beds - DS 20, DD10 at the time of our last trip. It's very disconcerting that they won't guarantee bunk beds in situations like that - but DS said he'd sleep in the tub before he shared a queen bed w/DD. (They get along great - she's just rootchy in her sleep.)

We booked a standard view feeling as Micca that we weren't going to be in the room THAT much & could go to one of the viewing areas to see animals. I forget now what prompted it, but we had several phone calls from the executive offices before we left. When we got there we found we'd upgraded to a pool view - with bunks. We loved the view & were very satisfied.

However, DH (who's the cheaper member of this family ;) ) said another time we'd spring for the savannah view...although I'll believe that when I see it. :teeth:

Hey Telford...I'm in Royersford!

Just an FYI--upgrades are usually one level up so if you are hoping for a savannah room...I'd reserve a pool view. All the views have bunks...as otherwise noted by everyone else. AKL is a wonderful resort. We too are the type that spends little time in the room...but at AKL we actually want to...and find the time too!
