...and the CM was perplexed. She said, "I never had anyone call to reserve a loop at Fort Wilderness and I've been here for several years" She told me that I could request it, but there really is no guarantee. I told her that I knew that, but that I also know of people requesting a loop and being granted their loop of choice. She really made me feel like the phone call was a big waste of time.

No worries, though...I got a buggy. I was just hoping to be more centrally located in 2100 or 2200.

I think I read that you needed to fax your request two weeks before your arrival date. Maybe someone on the boards has the info.

Ya know, I am vaguely recalling that myself and may have made an error in calling them. I'll research that and then fax if I have to. And I'll get back to you with confirmation. Thanks for the heads-up.

Here you go Joe......

The best way to request a loop is to fax a request about 5 days before your scheduled arrival. Here is a form most people use:

The fax# for the Fort is:407-824-3508

Date:

TO: Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground Site Assigner

FROM: Name
Address

SUBJECT: Site Request for Month xx - xx

RE: Reservation # xxxxxxxx

I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.

If possible, I would like a site in Loop xxxx with a site that will accommodate the following: (list your "stuff" here) and near (whatever you want to be near).

Thanks so much for your help, and once again I’m really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx or by email at xxx@xxx.xxx

Sincerely,

The CM was probably just new. I have never not called in a site request at FW and I have been going there for years.

Might have been some confusion if OP stated that he wanted to "reserve a loop" rather than request a loop.

Remember the folks who answer the phone (i.e. reservations cast members) have differing levels of expertise regarding Fort Wilderness. Think about it, there are tens of thousands of Disney hotel rooms fitting into a few categories such as Value, Moderate and Deluxe and most rooms, no mater what property have similar size rooms, room capacities and rules regarding the room. So, the reservations cast members have most of the information regarding rooms in their head. Except for the exceptional reservations cast members, for Fort Wilderness they usually read what is on the screen in front of them. You may need to guide them with your reservation as you may actually know more about the campground then they do.

This is a good point. But I do have one complaint about my phone call with the CM and it has nothing to do with her expertise...she wouldn't shut her pie hole. Now, I understand that many people get off the phone with these reservationist-types and are so happy that the CM was chatty and upbeat...I get that they are trained to do this, but this one was too much. You know the type...asks you a question and doesn't even wait for the complete answer to leave your mouth before they pipe-in again. Wow, I am way off topic, but I get your point, Tim. I just thought that requesting a loop would be in the top 5 things on their computer screen.

Sorry to hear that Joel, but trust me she will be coached and her AHT (average handling time) will be through the roof on your call (a huge no-no). So trust me, she will be told she can be friendly, but she will not be allowed to continue with that type of lengthy guest interaction. Which just confirms for me my theory that she was new. And if if for some reason you said, you want to "reserve a site" she should have just responded with "we can't reserve that beacuse we can't make that type of gtd, but we can make a request for you."

Oh and they are never suppose to say, "I don't know" to you without following up with a ..."but, let me find that out for you." And if they don't follow up with that, ask for a supervisor, that's Disney Company Policy property wide. "IDK" is for teens and people who just don't care, so don't take that for an answer.

On a positive note, I am sure your stay will go better than your reservation did. :)

No worries at all. But you are right about her AHT. It was like she was being coached to ask me general questions, like, "So are you all packed and ready to go?" It's nice chit-chat and all, but I could tell it was disingenous due to her cutting me off during my responses.

Can I just say that in all honesty, I couldn't care less about the phone call as it actually went okay, she was trying to be nice and I got what I needed...I was just offering info to you folks, thinking it was something that could help others. And I also couldn't care less about my loop request as I have a golf cart and am just getting greedy with a geographically desirable loop. If you look in my siggy (at least for today), it says "Only 1 day until our next vacation." THIS, my friends, is what I care about.

That's the right attitude! I hope your camping trip went well. :)
