When last I posted, the GF Concierge staff had called me and I was a bit nervous about what I should/could request when I returned their call.
Well......I got up the nerve to return the call and thanks to the advice I got from the nice people on the DIS :goodvibes I was well prepared.

Just to bring everyone up to speed, we had not been able to book a concierge room in the main building for our first night but were determined to keep trying right until the last minute. :hourglass Since moving rooms was something that we wanted to avoid and the main building and it's possibilities of a "Castle View" were very important to us, we were pretty determined. We have two little girls, one 4 years old and our older princess who will celebrate her 10th birthday during our stay. It's their first trip to Disney :). We had already made all of our PS ourselves  (but it was fun)

I wanted to do a few special things for my dd's big day and thanks to TammiMcMan's wonderful suggestion, I had decided to request a manicure for the two of us at the GF spa.

I was also hoping to have a mini-wedding cake sent to our room for DDs birthday after I saw them in Janet2k's threads.

So, I bravely grabbed my cordless phone and hid in my bedroom (so DDs wouldn't overhear) with my reservation number in hand and I made the call.
A lovely woman named Joey (I'm not sure about the spelling) answered my call and asked what she could do to help.
I explained the situation with the room change and she listened. She was empathetic but advised me that there was still no availability for our first night in the main building. She was super helpful about the cake order, even though she hadn't heard of it AND she booked our manicures at the spa. DD's is called "My first manicure", awwwww. She promised to get back to me with the details about the cake and wished me a nice evening.

Pretty good, I thought.

The next day (today) I arrived home to find an email from her and not only has she spoken to the chef and arranged for the cake, she managed to change our first night to the main building. :Pinkbounc We will not have to change rooms!!! She also promised us the same rate that we have for our other nights!!! I just couldn't be happier. I feel so silly for worrying about calling them.

Now if my children can just get over the nasty stomach flu that they came down with over the weekend, we are really going to have a Magical 10th birthday trip. We're all stocked up on kaopectate, so please send some pixie dust our way. The Dr. says the virus could last 10 days. :sad1:

Congrats on getting everything all worked out - I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful trip!

We had 2 rounds of the stomach bug at our house (they each had to get it separately) - both girls were completely well by 3 days. Here's some pixie dust for you!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

sending some pixie dust :wizard:

Your trip sounds lovely I hope you have a fabulous time

Sounds like a wonderful trip and that the Pixie dust has already begun and you haven't even left home.

Somefunmum, I hope you have a wonderful vacation and I hope that everyone is healthy.

As to the mini-wedding cakes, I don't know what the policy is regarding those. I had a Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal and used those cakes for my dinner party. They were lovely, as you saw in my FTW Planning Session photos (I haven't posted photos yet of the mini-cakes that were actually served at my FTW vow renewal dinner party). I hope they can be purchased for non-weddings/vow renewals (my fingers are crossed for you). But in case they can't be purchased, I thought I would share a photo of a cake that was sent to our suite for my son's birthday one year while we were staying at the Grand Floridian: click here. It was a lovely cake and actually contained my son's name but I digitally removed it from the photo. We have enjoyed similar cakes while staying in various Disney resorts over the years.

Again, I hope you have a wonderful vacation. And happy birthday to your child.

Janet

Thanks for looking out for me Janet. :goodvibes The actual cake that we've ordered is not quite as elaborate as the ones from your Vow Renewal (those were really fantastic!). But you were the one who inspired me to search for a really magical cake for our little princess. A quick search of the DIS came up with this pretty little thing that can indeed be ordered at the GF.

The cost is a very reasonable $25.

And thanks to everyone who wished us well. The girls are on the mend and I'm confident that they will be fully recovered by Sunday morning.
Now if their mother can just start packing :earseek:

Here is some extra special HAPPY BIRTHDAY/GET WELL SOON Pixie dust for you and your family.

ENJOY :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Oh goodness I hope you DD feels better soon. During my first trip to Disney I was getting over bronchitis, but it was still magical. I'm sure she'll be thrilled with the cake, it's beautiful.

So glad everything worked out for you. I'm sure your DD is going to feel like a princess. Have a wonderful trip and please fill us in on the details when you get back.

Tammi

I am so happy for you that everything worked out! I am just like you...I would be nervous about requesting anything special from concierge...which is so silly cuz that is what you are paying for! I bet your DD's will be better each day and feel gret as soon as you get to WDW! Your trip sounds fabulous...here is some pixie dust for ya! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
