Called for a pin code

and I was told by our not-so-friendly CM "Luke" that there is no way of knowing if I had one. That I should receive a post card and I have to give THEM the code. I told him that I "knew" people who called and asked and he said "I have no way of knowing that Ma'am. That is a marketing department issue and I have no access to pulling up that kind of information".

How did you all get pin codes????

I posted the same thing a few days ago, and was encouraged to try again. Everytime I call, I get that same line. Doesn't it just make you want to jump through the phone, and smack some Disney Magic into them!?!?! :wave2:

I'll just keep trying and see what happens. My trip isn't until Sept, so we have time. I know others have been successful, and does Disney REALLY know how many times you call in a day, just to get that CM that says those magic words? :confused3

Good Luck :cheer2:

I would call back and talk to another CM. I call every few weeks just to see and have never had any problems with them checking.

You get the code emailed or mailed to you as part of a mass marketing - not everyone gets it - in fact there is no rhyme or reason as to how to get it!

All the CMs can do is pull up your name and current/previous addresses and see if there was one sent to you. THey will tell you that you would have received it - I just replied that we just decided to travel and that I probably would have thrown it out without reading it. NOPE - I didn't have one - then I had a bright idea! :wizard:

I had them check my SISTER's name/address too this time. She DID have a code :cheer2:- we have cruised together twice so far. I asked the CM rather sweetly and innocently if I could be added onto her household since we are sisters (we do not have same last name, address, etc) - LOL - and he said he didn't see why not! (Now if he had said no, I would have had my sister call back and ADD me to her household!) So then the code applies to ANYONE in the household! So whammo - I can now book a trip using her code - and I have a different address!

I have no clue how ethical/moral/etc all this finagling is -(my husband thinks I was raised by Gypsies) - but all I know is we are paying 59 a night for Pop, whereas I was previously planning a trip at the rack rate of 110 (includes tax I think) - which would have seriously cut down on our trip length.

I DON"T think the right thing to do is to call and call and call - to beg for a code. I know that if I worked for Disney and had everyone calling me - I think I'd have to finally spaz out on somebody!

I totally agree with not calling to beg for a code, either. I don't want to make a name for myself with the CM's.

My actual point was not to beg for one - it was just to get someone who would actually CHECK for me to see if I had one. I would feel like I got somewhere if one of them would just check for me! :confused3

How's this for you? We were planning a trip for last Oct when I got a postcard in the mail for a September discount. We moved up the trip by 3 weeks, squeezing in between Ivan and Jeanne :teeth: , and there was no pin code on the postcard. I read the postcard to the CM, at her request, she said that is the current postcard, couldn't figure out why there wasn't a pin listed, and found me a discount (better by $5 per night) to use instead. :cheer2: I think she pulled some strings to do that. We stayed at AKL for $80 per night!! It all depends on the CM you get.

Actually, I think they do. When I called to make my ressie, they had my whole history of staying at Disney (I don't even have this!). I'm sure they log all calls. They love to collect information on us (yes, I just visited the Spy Museum).

I should just let this go, but I can not help myself. Why do people have this prejudgment about Gypsies? Any other race and this comment would get you in a bunch of trouble, but this is perfectly accepted chatter. I am a Gypsy and not unethical or immoral. I am an honest and law abiding citizen. I should just bite my tongue, but I read this at the wrong time.

If the guy wouldn't even check for you then I see no harm in calling again.

Keep calling until you get someone who knows what they're doing. Don't give up!

That's the response I get every time too.

goingquackers - I am part Romani as well and I find gypsy comments to be really annoying...

Thanks for all the encouragement. I did call back and got a better CM. Unfortunately there was nothing there. I have a new e-mail address because we moved last summer (new home address too!) So, who knows if I have one under my old information. I will have to wait a little while and call to see, right?

Polka, that is really cool that you got that rate using your sister's information. I didn't even try my own husband's info which may have helped. We are staying at ASM and paying the full rack rate. GRRR pirate:

I think the question might be: are the "codes" linked to a specific person's name? Someone once wrote in here asking if anyone had seen the Sunday newspaper Disney supplement, which had a hotel package offer and a code that anyone who saw it could use. So all we have to do is post the codes here (after we use them, of course.)

I'm just wondering if that's the way it works. I mean, once the room inventory that is being promoted is used up, WDW will theoretically be at capacity, codes or no codes. No, that's not right: the rooms that they project might otherwise go vacant get used up, then...
On the other hand, if EVERYONE gets the codes simultaneously, it is as if the room rates were lowered for everyone. The whole subject (marketing) is fascinating. (Broadway Theater is another case. Why did I pay $101 a ticket for SPAMALOT when someone in a group only paid $80?)

Well, if that's the case, the theory that getting a "code" is somehow cheating goes out the window.

By the way, I think my Irish grandmother used to use that "raised by gypsies" expression, but I always took it to mean we were free thinkers (problem kids) rather than schemers and thieves. This was a long time ago. Twenty years ago there were the Polish jokes. (Now they are touted as "blonde" jokes.) A lot of these ethnic expressions are fading from our active language. At least I hope so.

First off, Pin codes are household specific. there are at times that there are "mass" codes that are sent out... these are the ones seen inside the news paper and are in general 3 letter codes that can used by anyone.

For the person who wants to "Reach thru the phone and slap some Disney magic into them" I'm sure that they'd like to reach thru the phone and strangle everyone who feels that they are entitled to a discount. *shakes head with dissapointment*

I don't think it is unethical to have your name added to your sister's address when you traveled together. I think it is more unethical to give a code to some travellers and not others! Some cruise lines have a "captain's circle" club where you would get a discount if you cruised with them before. Maybe they should have a Mickey club where you get a code if you stayed before. As with the cruising, you would have to request it. I too called to see if my friend had a code because I am setting up her trip in December (she got married there a couple years ago) so I was hoping but there is nothing. Neither of us has received an email, postcard or anything. It bugs me if I have to pay full price when someone else gets a code.

You may be trying a little early if your trip isn't until September, the only pin codes that I know of are for check-ins up until July 4th. :)

THis is a good point. The pin code I got was good til July 4th. I don't think there are any newer codes out. So unless your trip begins before 7/04/05, it's a waste of time to call hoping for a pin that would be useless to you :confused3

dphie28,

Sorry you didn't have a code. Just have to ask because of your username, are you a deepher???
