Was pleasantly suprised to reach someone live. I asked about booking a "BOB" adventure and he asked when I was going to be there. I told him I was concerned that we were going to be there on a Sunday, and wondered if they would still go! He assured me that if we wanted to go......they would accomodate us! He was so friendly and told us we were going to have a blast.
He also asked if we were sailing in on RCCL or Celebrity (I think) and I told him we were coming in on Disney. He was very suprised. Sounds like they don't get too many folks from Disney.
I am pumped for this excursion! We can't wait to go! If anyone else is interested in going with us (Hubby & I) PM me and I will give you the details! The tour itself is only about 1.5 hours so we will have plenty of Town time afterwards!

I second the huh? What is a "Bob"?

It's like an underwater motorscooter. Sort of. If you go to bobkeywest.com you will see a photo of it. Their site is under construction so that's all you see, but that's all I needed to see! BOB stands for Breathing Observation Bubble (or something like that). You put your head into a big glass bubble, kind of like a space suite, then sit on the thing like a scooter and you "drive" it around under water! Air is constantly pumped into the bubble so that you dont wear anything on you face like a mask or mouthpiece. They say there is even enough room to take both your hands up into the bubble and take photos, wipe your face, whatever. Apparently you can only go down about 10-15 feet, as you are attached to a buoy to keep you going any deeper. Then you just drive around (3 mph) like you are scubadiving, but riding! We can't wait! It looks like a blast! I have a little more info if anyone else wants it! Check out the pic on their website!

Scooter!

I can't remember what "BOB" stands for but it looks like you have this big yellow bubble breathing apparatis(sp) on your head and you ride a scooter/motorcycle type apparatis(sp)!

I saw them in St. Thomas! I was told that you really don't get to see much but one scuba guy who leads you was feeding the fish so that the "BOB" riders could see them! It looked like a fun thing to do though!

Hi this is Shirley and I am going to be in Key West on the 19th of this month - I would like to check this out for Key West they come out with the wildest stuff - anyhow can you send me their phone number at snelsonbrown@aol.com? Thanks for doing this.
Always
Shirley

Do you need to be scuba certified to use it? I seem to remember when those things first came out, that you needed to be?

it was the most AMAZING thing we've EVER DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to love it and its worth every penny. Our trip was about 3 hours in St Thomas though as it included snorkeling too. No you don't need to be scuba certified, you don't even need to know how to swim, just need to know how to put your head under water to stick your head in the helmet and sit on the scooter seat. After that you just drive your scooter while scuba divers guide you along (there is at least 1 diver per scooter) (in St Thomas you go through a shipwreck and coral reef). The scuba diver will take your under water camera and shoot the whole roll of film for you, they take fish food along for some great shots. While you are driving the scooter is when you get to go snorkeling. The St Thomas tour is so popular on RCCL the BOB guy told us he's booked 7 days a week/2 tours per day exclusively to RCCL customers which is probably why he was surprised to hear you were on DCL, i'm sure its the same thing in Key West. It's a good thing you just called him directly. I know when we booked it was already booked 4 months out online with RCCL and we had to wait until we boarded, our travel agent told us to not even wait for the excursion desk to open, but to just go to our stateroom and book it on our tv the minute we boarded. We did so and about 5 mins later the tv was indicating the tour was booked. Later that night we went to the excursion desk to pick up our tickets and the excursion desk employee said we were lucky to have the tickets we were 2 of 30 people who got them and there was a wait list of 490 and it was still growing!
As I said you WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

Teriffic! I can't wait. Shirley, I e-mailed you their direct number!

I'll let eveyone know how it goes. We should be BOBBING on Sunday march 28th!

Hi - I spoke to Phil (an owner) today from this company and he was very helpful as to what BOB is - he has offered to show me what it is all about when I get down there tho I told him I just wanted to talk to him and see exalty what cruisers were getting for their monies - I did ask him about conch rates and he will talk with me when we meet - I am suppose to see him on the 20th of February - time not set yet - he is also going to make sure that I get a bunch of brochures to send out to anyone that wants them in the KW packets - he knows that I am NOT OUT FOR ANY KICKBACKS and this is what I explained to him - I just want the cruisers to be treated fairly in my hometown - that was the only payback I expected - he did tell me they were getting great reviews on cruisecritics. com and I could go on there to check it out - anyhow when I get back will let everyone know what went down but not me :teeth:
Will chat with ya later and thanks Maureen for sending me their phone number - to make it easier I was given a cell phone number so when I get there.
always

Hi Maureen, I figured that you are home now and was wondering how your experience was with BOB.

Yes, we are back and sad to say they no longer do the BOBs in Key West. I called the week before we left and they said they've decided to to pull the BOBs out. We were very dissappointed and just went into KW to walk around and spend the day. We ended up having a great day, but I wish we could have BOBbed!

Wow, what a bummer it must have been. I know I am bummed and I still can make plans for something else. SorrY! Hope the rest of your cruise went well! Thanks so much for responding.
