So, my nephew who is turning 16 next week, is really into guns. :confused3 I mean, it's fine to be into them, but I was just thinking that maybe at this age, he would have other things to do. ;) I was looking on Amazon and I saw that they had "Call of Duty" I've heard about this game before. :) The price is a little too high, and it's rated "M" for "MATURE" Do you think that I should get him it?

I have been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) for about 9 months. I let my two sons (11 and 8) play it as well. While it is a great game, I would suggest that you wait for Call of Duty: Black Ops to be released on Nov 9th, 2010. There are many "bugs" in MW2 that hopefully will be addressed in Black Ops.

So I would suggest that you pre-buy a copy of Black Ops for your nephew.

Do his parents care if he plays M rated games? I'd be annoyed if someone bought my son one without checking with me first, simply because we don't let him play all of them. He plays some (including CoD) but others we feel he isn't ready for. There are multiple CoD games. Which were you considering? As dejr_8 mentioned, there's a new one coming out before too long that looks really good. Also (and you probably realize this but I figure I better mention it since many people don't seem to think about it) if you do get a game, make sure you get one that will work on whatever console he has.

Just because he's into guns, doesn't mean he isn't into other things. My one son loves COD, but also loves to run cross country, and is very into his trumpet playing-he's 15. I would get it for him.

My 12 yo has modern Warfare 2. He loves it.

Certainly don't see a problem buying it for a 16 yo, though I'm not his parents.

my ds16 has a few of the cod games. My older nephew gave him a God fo War. That one is :scared1:. He called me to get me to see part of the game and the main guy is having sex.:scared1: Son we need to have a talk about what your mother does not deem suitable! (they did not show the act but rather you had the sound effects)

My DS has been playing COD for years and he is 12. A new one just came out but I don't know which one it is, there are a few. He is out selling Boy Scout wreaths but I can ask him when he gets back. He is 12.

By the way I consider 16 the age intended for M game it means it isn't for little kids like 8yr olds but I consider a 16 yr old Mature, they drive for heavens sake.I would buy a M game for a 16 yr old without a second thought.

Most of the middle and hs kids (boys that is) around here who like video games have and play some type of version of CoD. Most of the boys I know are great students and balance out lots of activities with their love for video games.
The thing that makes me laugh though, is that they all live in the same neighborhood, but instead of getting together, they stay at their own homes and play each other online.

Most 16 year olds that are into video games have played COD or similar. If he likes that kind of thing and doesn't have it, he would probably like it.

The newest one is called COD Black Ops. It is coming out soon, isn't out yet(I thought it was see how little I actually know) This one takes place in Vietnam and the Cold War as per my son.

Halo Reach just came out today and I know that is in big demand-He used Birthday money and pre-ordered it the deluxe edition and we just picked it up on the way home from school.-since I wouldn't go out at midnight last night!

The ratings are driven by political pressure from busy bodies who have nothing better to do.

Depending on how much you want to spend you may want to pre-order the new one for him and he can pick it up when it comes out. That way you will know for sure he doesn't have it already! because it does get confusing which one they already have.
