But I still hand write thank you notes. I don't own a debit card and like to hand write checks. I still mail bills, don't do a lot of transactions online. I don't own an ATM card. I don't "belong" to Facebook and I don't "tweet". I just sent out DD's first birthday invitations asking to have guests RSVP to my home phone number. I got my first text reply to my cel phone. Why am I not surprised :confused3 (It came from my SIL who texted the fact that she's having a second baby to her husband!) Anything to avoid having a conversation with an actual person right? I rarely use my cel phone. That text that I just mentioned was sent yesterday afternoon and I just saw it about a half hour ago. I've been known to not have it with me and not even turned on for days! The thought! Any other "old schoolers" out there? I can't be the only one!!!!! :goodvibes

Ok you are old school but what makes your way better than someone elses? Not to be snarky but, I will text over calling someone pretty much any day of the week because it is easier for me. Most people I know email invites these days and have a lot better success getting RSVP's too. New doesn't mean bad :confused3.

Please tell me you don't write checks at the grocery store....I hate getting behind those people! I hate mailing bills...I don't trust the mail not to lose the check...been there done that...

You must be of an era like me.

Bless you! :goodvibes:laughing:

I at no point said my way was better. I guess I just miss how things used to be. And if I wanted people to RSVP any way they wanted to, I would have put my email address, cel phone or whatever, but I put my home phone number. That is the way I want to be contacted since I am home pretty much all the time :goodvibes Even though someone might have my cel phone number, I think that's kind of rude and a cop out to send a text. That's what I was saying.

Yup, sure do. But I fill out as much information as I can before hand so I don't keep the person behind me waiting too long. But let's not talk about the heaps off coupons I use. That will surely get the person behind me steamed. But maybe they will be on their cel phone and that will keep them occupied.

Same here, it's quicker and easier. Plus I can do it whenever and wherever I am.

I know plenty of people like you but I think most of them are older than you are. ;)

I agree with another poster, "new" isn't necessarily "bad". Sometimes new things are an improvement. ;)

I still write checks, I have it made out to whom, dated and signed before the clerk has it all rung up all I have to do is put in the amount. Now at someplaces all you have to do is sign it and the register fills it out.

I still write letters with paper and pen and mail them. I also email, and text, and chat.

Some of our bills are check only since the business doesnt take electronic payments.

I try not to write checks at Wal-Mart since they just hand you back the check after they print it. (I think its just a waste to write one there)

I love to hand write invitations. I talk to people on the phone, but will text them if I think that they are busy and it is something that can be answered later.

I guess im a little old school and a little new school

I also handwrite thank you notes. I do "own" a debit card and I REFUSE TO WRITE A CHECK. The debit card serves EXACTLY the same purpose and it saves time. I agree with another poster, it PI**ES me off to get behind someone who is writing a check at the grocery store. I also do not do Facebook and I have never "Tweeted". But, that is simply because I just don't have time to keep up with those things. I have a home phone number, only because it is part of a package deal, but it wouldn't do much good to have someone RSVP to it, because I am always at work or out and about, and typically don't get home until around 7 p.m. I love a text message to relay a short message, or receive a short message, as opposed to getting on the stupid phone for an hour long conversation when I only had ONE thing to relay. I don't text and email to "avoid having a conversation" with anyone, I do it because, sometimes schedules just don't mesh and like I said, if I only have one tiny little thing to tell you, why do I need to talk on the phone? I agree with the previous poster though, good for you for being "old school" but there is honestly nothing wrong with technology and using it.

I hate checks - I'd much rather use my airmile-earning CC for everything. But unfortunately I still have to use checks for school fees, extra-curricular activities and a couple of other bills throughout the year.

I'd much rather text than call, in most cases. I love e-mail too. I am so happy now when I get invitations with e-mail addresses on them, or I know the person does check their texts, especially when responding to invitations for my child from people I don't know very well.

I just ordered checks a couple months ago, the time before that was 2006 :lmao:. I use a debit card for everything-MUCH more convenient and safe. All of our bills are paid through automatic withdrawal with the exception of 2 that don't have that option but I pay them online. It is SO much easier :thumbsup2.

I'm not sure why you are confused. She didn't say her way was better.

I still pay my bills with checks also, through the post office mail. I do use my cell phone for all of my personal phone calls (don't have a land line at home), and I use email and facebook.

I certainly don't see anything wrong with sending hand-written thank you cards or party invitations.

Just because someone sends an invitation by email doesn't necessarily mean that the invitees will rsvp.

I take pride in making and mailing out invitations for my daughters birthday. She also handwrites (to the best of her ability) out thank yous that we send in the mail. We handwrite a personal note in each Christmas card before they get sent - it's not just a generic picture with a holiday greeting.

Kudos to you!

I did the old school way for too many years because there was no other way. I am happy to be new school. I don't tweet, but only because I have nothing of interest to say to anyone!

Definitely not the only one. My 80 year old mother is exactly like you! :lmao:

I find some technology to be laughable and narcissistic so I avoid much of it. However, when I can utilize a form of technology that will make my life easier, I definitely embrace it. That means using an ATM card instead of waiting in line at the bank and paying bills online to save time.

I would much rather send a quick text to ask a simple question or rsvp instead of trying to find a convenient point for a phone conversation for something that should only take seconds but will ultimately take longer.

Although I am the exact opposite of all of you old-school people, I respect your way of life as long as you respect mine. I hate hand-writing anything, my cell phone is my constant companion, I do everything possible online (I may have a teensy-weensy eBay addiction - but I can quit any time I want to, really I can), Facebook is my friend, I haven't mailed anything I didn't absolutely have to in years, and I have worn out 3 debit cards since the last time I ordered checks. :confused3 But, to each their own.

However, please be prepared for the reality that probably, within our lifetime, we will see the phasing out of paper checks. I work in the retail sector, and the reality is we are trying very very hard to discourage customers from using them. Retailers lose too much money on them. So, we make it as difficult as possible for our customers in the hopes that they will use a different method of payment. It is working; payment by paper check has decreased dramatically. In my area at least, most fast food restaurants no longer accept them at all. Also, most banks are making checks more and more difficult, with the addition of added fees and higher check prices. Truth is debit cards are easier and safer and retailers don't have to worry about bounced checks.

I still write handwritten thank you notes, as well as Christmas cards, birthday cards, and what not.

I just like that it's more personal.

Where did she say she was better. I just thought she said she was old school.
