We will be staying at Poly and AKL for our December trip(originally at CBR).We have never stayed at a deluxe resort before and probably won't again any time soon.So I'm REALLY looking forward to spending time at these resorts-EVEN MORE THAN THE PARKS!Am I insane?Usually when we go we are on a mission to see and do EVERTHING possible-which can be exhausting BUT FUN!I love ASMo and so does our DS-and because we get such a reasonable price we don't mind spending time elsewhere. We do ALWAYS spend at least 1 day hanging out at the pool and relaxing.
This year we are thinking of only doing 2 or 3 days in the parks plus 1 night at MVMCP(we will be there for 8 nights)! Is this nuts?I just think it's SO exciting to be staying at these UNBELIEVABLE resorts-why not enjoy them thoroughly?
O.K.-let me have it!
Kim

Nope you are not insane. We did eight days in WDW in August and only went to the parks for three half days the whole time we were there. The rest of the time we spent at the resorts we stayed at.

I think it is a great idea. We would like to relax a little more on our next trip and enjoy the WL during Christmas. I cant wait I am so looking forward to this trip because work has been so busy lately.

I don't think you're crazy at all. Most of our days, we go to a park until lunch and then leave and enjoy the resort the rest of the day. We strike out again for Epcot if we're having dinner there. We aren't planning to go to a park on 12/25 or 12/31. There are so many fun things to do at WDW besides the parks.

Kim, there is nothing wrong with enjoying the resorts. I live in the area and often spend time resort hopping, at DD, playing mini-golf etc. even though I have an AP that would let me in the parks every day. Besides, if you actually take the time and enjoy the resort and it's amenities, you might find yourself having a more relaxing vacation. Hope you enjoy it...oh and check out the hammocks on the Poly beach..they are great!

Kim - just returned from a split stay at BWV and AKL -DS and I left the parks every day by 1:00 to get back to the resort. I LOVED AKL and wish we had had more time to spend there - it is wonderful and so relaxing I was glad that we put it at the end of the trip! The pool is beautiful, the savannah views are awesome -though very few animals were out from 9-5, they were most active in the early morning when the keepers came through to feed them, in the evening and through the night (woke up one night at 4:30 AM and pulled the curtain to see the animals up very close to the rooms and the wildebeasts chasing around - I sat out on the balcony for over an hour taking it all in!). We never did have time to attend the evening storytelling around the fire pit and the night vision sightings were rained out each evening that we were there - I can't wait to go back and will definitely schedule more 'resort time' here - DS (13) loved his resort time at the Boardwalk!

Yeah!
I thought someone might say-your in Disney to do the parks!Personally,I enjoy the hotels just as much!Walk around with my mouth dropping!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year on some of our down time we hotel hopped. My husband and I thought"Wow,wouldn't it be nice to stay at one of these hotels?SOMEDAY we will do it!"
I'm one of those people that would rather go back often,on a budget, than wait years between each visit-so value is the way to go for us!Plus,I REALLY love ASMo!
Anyways, never did we expect to be staying at Poly AND AKL this trip!I thought I was splurging staying at CBR-haha!I want to soak up every single inch of these resorts!I want to sit in the hammocks with a pina colada and sit on the balcony at 4 A.M. and watch the animals and not have to worry that I have to get up in an hour to ready to tackle the parks!
This is truly going to be a "vacation"!Relax, enjoy, eat and relax some more!!!!!
My husband is a very laid back kind of guy and as much as he loves Disney he hates to be rushed and on a schedule-especially on vacation! Can't say I blame him! Thanks everyone!Kim

Because I thought I was the only one who felt like that.

I'm taking a good friend for her first trip next March and I'm more exicted about staying at the resort than I am going to the parks. Silly, huh?

It's not silly to you and me and MANY others I guess! The hotels are just as wonderful and amazing as the parks right? They are, after all, part of Disney!I CAN'T WAIT!And again, this is probably the first time that my DH is REALLY looking forward to his Disney vacation! We won't come home exhausted!!I feel bad for anyone who is going to Poly in December-they are going to have to fight us off those hammocks-including my DS!haha!!!!!Kim

The only way I could get DH to go back this year was to promise I wouldn't run him ragged. So this trip we will be at BCV ( on rented DVC points) for 5 nights and then AKL for one night. I am so excited because we always stay in the moderates. We are buying 4 day hoppers and plan to just enjoy the resort our first day, last day ( both travel days) and one day in the middle. We want to see the other resorts and enjoy ourselves by actually relaxing this trip. Since we will be going without the kids, we probably won't even spend more than 1/2 a day at MK. We love the Disney resorts, and want to be able to make full use of the ammenities. This year that means room service!

Another funny thing is that I kept talking about how excited I was to stay at BCV and since I booked everything without his help he would just nod and smile at me. Then one night about a month ago he said, "Why are you so excited, I never really had much interest in staying there. It seems bigger and more inconvienient than POFQ or POR."

My mouth dropped open and then after regaining my shock I asked a few questions and come to find out, the whole time he had thought we were staying at CBR! Imagine how excited he was when he found out what I was talking about was actually BCV! It went someting like, "You mean the one by Epcot that we went in to use the bathrooms at?"
I nodded and his mouth dropped open and then he said "SWEET!"

OK, I'll let you have it. Congratulations! Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned. We love looking at all of the resorts. I hope to stay at each one sometime in the future.

I keep trying to plan a "hotel only" trip, but so far it hasn't happened. But, for our two upcoming trips, we've booked our trips in installments - WDW, Cruise, WDW. The second part of each trip will be "no parks". I can't wait!

Beth

Slimpaw,
You let me have it good!haha
I am just SOOOO excited to be able to enjoy Disney in a competely different way!Keep in mind that my DS will still be under 4 at the time of our trip so we can get away with not going to the parks much easier than some!
All he really wants to do is eat at Chef Mickey's and go on Dumbo and the "horsies"(carousel)
We do plan on doing Epcot this trip because we have never been there and my poor DH has asked over & over if we could go there!I think my DS will enjoy it this year so yeah,we are going!(I think my DH is looking forward to different beers in the countries!haha-I may have a couple myself!we don't have to drive right?!!)
I think this is going to be our best trip ever!Boy,december seems so far away!
