Plastic bags actually take less energy to produce than paper bags! But I guess if it gets people to bring in their own grocery bags and save some extra plastic being produced, it's all good :]

I think a primary concern of plastic bags is people litter them and animals eat them and then they starve to death because they get stuck in their bodies.

My state (Ohio) voted to ban or not allow it in the Nov 2006 elections.
