Just talked to my guide and was told that there will be a new sales center at Disneyland to sell current DVC resorts.

I wonder this will be the initial stage for them to eventually develop DVC resorts by Grand Californian. I would love to buy there!!!

That would be great! I stayed there 11/03 and fell in love with it. I would definately use points to stay there evey couple of years.

It would be a great addition. I don't know if I would use it but anything like the Grand Californian as an addition to DVC would certainly increase the value of the program IMHO.

Lets see what happens!

Ah, big party happening at DL this year ... increased foot traffic ... and all within the state registering the highest level of timeshare ownership interest across the US. Gee, do you think DVC saw an opportunity??

Let's keep our fingers crossed that it happens. If they were to add a DVC to DL, I'd do a small add on for when family is in town.

Did your guide happen to mention when it would be open and where? We're visiting DL in May for my b-day and their 50th and I'd be happy to check it out to look for any mention of a CA DVC resort.

Yesterday, I believe, there was a thread about a mandatory DVC guide meeting & some big news - is this it?? That would be great.

how could DVC exist in california? my understanding was that due to CA laws regarding ownership expiration for timeshares, that DVC could not exist there...

I know when we bought in Orlando two years we didn't have the opportunity to go home and think about it. We had to purchase while in Orlando due to some laws I didn't quite understand. We did purchase a resale after that without a problem but I remember something very clearly about laws in CA and one or two other states prohibiting us from buying while at home.

We've got family in Calif and would be sooo happy if this became a reality! :cheer2:

I agree with bvwBound... lots of people heading to Disneyland means a great place to pitch the Magic of WDW...

But I would love to see a DVC resort in Southren California

my understanding is that the difference is a simple deed timeshare vs. a lease holding deed timeshare... i believe the latter, which is DVC, is illegal in CA...

When I bought my guide explained that the state of CA has to approve the selling of each resort as it opens. For some reason it takes awhile but you can now buy from CA. I did an add on late last year from home and the guide I dealt with told me CA had just given the ok.

Does this mean that the laws in the state California have changed so that DVC (lease-type) is now possible there? Remember that Disney owned land there to build another resort but sold it to Marriott because of the laws in effect at the time.

While I'd just stay at the Grand Californian, I'm a little hesitant to use my points to do so. However, if they build a DVC resort that was modeled after the GC...WOW!!!

While Disney is great at building bigs things on what looks small areas, there is not a lot of room to build WDW type resorts, particularly around GC. Disney apparently has a tract of land across Harbor Blvd. When I was spending lots of time at Disneyland the last several years, the rumor has been of a potential third park. That seemed remote to me given the poor attendance at California Adventure. That area could probably support a resort, but is it on the opposite side of CA than GC so I think it would have it's own themeing - thus not a GCV.

They are just putting a sales center there, not a DVC resort! I think they know they can get more Californian's (like me) who go to WDW regularly to purchase. That wouldn't be against any of the laws.

I bought my SSR points from CA, no problem.

There is room to add either 250 hotel rooms or 125 DVC units connected to the GC. I believe they can build a DVC in California, but can't advertise it in California except in their parks.

Location to the parks is one of GC's greatest advantages as you can be into DL in less than 5 minutes, and into DCA and DD in less than a minute.

Wow, if it really happened I would be so thrilled! Good thing I added on those extra points this year!!!

forget what i said, anyone (including me) who suggest that a right-to-use leasehold timeshare is prohibited by CA law (and that is why there is no CA DVC) is probably misinformed...

after looking at the los angeles BBB website and googling the topic, i think there is currently nothing that would make these arrangements illegal in CA... correct me if i am wrong...
