California Grille - So so

I'm sorry to hear that you had the same experience with the filet! I had ordered the filet because my DH had been raving that his was the best ever since we'd first eaten at CG in 2007. I also wanted to order something that was straightforward because I am really allergic to celeriac, which seemed to be in a lot of dishes (or at least all the dishes I was interested in!) at CG that night. Even if it was JUST filet, it should be cooked right and it shouldn't be tough!

I agree completly. We eat at the higher-end WDW restaurants every trip and have been to CG at least a dozen times. There has been a noticable lack of "something special" here, from the good but not great food to the cramped and loud atmosphere. I will spend the $$$ but want to leave with the feeling that it was worth it. CG has left me underwhelmed. My best experiences in recent trips has been at Narcoossees.
Yeah, we like CG but only do it on occasion. As others have posted, the menus are very limited, the restaurant way too loud and crowded, it just lacks that something special to justify the prices, atmosphere not withstanding. FWIW.

These post have me a little nerveous. We have never been and last summer I had a reservation for just me and my wife. The kids were going to stay with the other family that were with us. At the last minute we cancelled because we were having some much fun that day with the kids. I have it scheduled for our upcoming trip again for just the 2 of us during wishes. Should we look for something else?

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I guess we're just comparing it to the way it used to be. If it's your first visit, it may be a wonderful experience. I'm also thinking that it is most crowded during Wishes so if you want something more intimate and romantic, maybe pick an earlier time and watch Wishes from the rooftop of the Contemporary right outside California Grille. You won't hear the music, but will have a wonderful view of the fireworks. I hate to say cancel because maybe you will have a wonderful experience. You won't know until you try. On the other hand, if you really want something very special, you might want to check Narcooses or Citricos, to name a few.
