I keep hearing Pete talk about California Grill so now of course I am intrigued....
We really love yachtsman, how does this compare?
I'm not a big sushi fan, should I go there?
My mom isn't a big fish fan (and is allergic to shellfish), would this be ideal for her? She also doesn't like cheese lol
My 13 yr old is allergic to nuts, will there be any issues for her?
How's the kids menu?
Pics are always welcome

You won’t have any problems with the allergies. Disney is amazing with that and will have a chef come out if needed. I think the sushi is OK, but I am from Vancouver where sushi is really good and reasonably priced.

Go to allears.net and look at a current menu (it changes). We eat there every trip. Sushi is not a main focus. The brunch is pretty amazing although expensive. Large buffet of lots of choices, unlimited mimosas, plus you get to order an entree. With tax/tip it runs about $100 a person so taking a 13 yo may make it a poor value. The view of the Magic Kingdom and surrounding area during the day is stunning.

We did the brunch back in October, and it was the best meal of our trip. But I would never take a 13 year old... unless they have a large appetite and not a picky eater. The entree's were also unlimited; my husband and I each tried 2.

I thought about 2 but I was so stuffed at that point it was impossible. The other plus is that the free valet parking is good for the day (I asked).

We hadn't intended to eat 2, but I didn't care for the original entree I'd selected, so our server insisted I keep trying until I found one I liked. Since we had to wait a bit, my husband ordered another one as well. I ended up with the shrimp & grits and it was fantastic. I wish I hadn't filled up so much on the sushi, haha.

Loved the shrimp and grits. Ditto on the sushi. I can get that at home.

On our last trip to Cali Grill in December, our worst dishes were the sushi rolls and the scallops - so just avoid the sushi and seafood and you should be fine! Everything else was great and the view is amazing. The chef will work with you on the allergy!

Piggybacking - sorry!

Anyone know how big the flatbreads are? Could someone make a meal of that and a salad (or other appetizer)?

We are going (NEXT MONTH!) for the first time, for my son's birthday. I just KNOW one of my kids will want a flatbread as their entrée... just wanted to know what to expect..

I LOVE California Grill! I've never been to Yachtsman yet (but I want to!) so I can't speak to that comparison. I am a huge sushi fan and had their sushi and found it was...alright? I live in Philadelphia and feel I could definitely get something similar here. I wouldn't worry about not liking sushi as I felt it wasn't a deal breaker/major focus of the overall menu.

For your mom and daughter, I would say they would be well off going there! For instance, I am not allergic to egg but have a very severe chronic illness that affects my stomach/digestion and have to be very careful. Disney is AMAZING with accommodations in my experience. I make sure to mention it at the start of the meal and have always received wonderful help and have even had the kitchen speak to me to make sure I was well taken care of. This goes for all Disney restaurants I've dined at, even in Disneyland. I have to say none of their restaurants have ever made me feel like embarrassed or like a burden for doing this (I do this to myself in my own head because I feel really bad asking for menu changes, but for me it's necessary to ask).

I have never looked at the kid's menu, I apologize. I do have wonderful photos, because we went at night for my birthday and had a gorgeous fireworks view, but I am at work currently and can't post them. I will try to figure it out when I get home!

Overall I definitely think you should try a meal there!

I love Cali Grill and i don't eat any sushi or any fish at all. They have fantastic steaks and some good stuff for the kids. I haven't eaten at the Yachtsman but i can confirm Cali Grill is as good as Pete says it is.

DH and I are planning to try California Grill for the first time in early December. We want to make reservations so we can view the Holiday Wishes fireworks on our last night. Holiday Wishes are normally at 10:00 so I assume we should try for a 9:00 reservation. We also will be eating at Yachtsman. It's our favorite restaurant at WDW. Their onion rolls are amazing and their steaks are delicious.

Taking a 17, 12.5, and 9 y/o with us for brunch @ CG and dinner @ Yachtsman's this forthcoming trip. It'll be our first visit to both of those restaurants but I anticipate no problems since the CG menu seems quite varied. As for Yachtsman, they've eaten at Boathouse in the past so see no problem on that level either.
We're doing a split stay and the time period covered by the above ADRs will be on the deluxe dining plan. Think it's a good value price-wise and am expecting good eats.

it is more "elevated" then yachtsman. While yachtsman is a STEAK HOUSE...CG is fine dining. lighter fairs then a steak house, better suited for multiple smaller course meals, and good wine pairings. you cant really compare the two.

Kids get "flat bread" instead of pizza....but still geared towards kids

..

Cut into 6 squares 3x3 inches....the flat bread is 9x6...perfect for 2 to share as an app
