Hi everyone!

I would like to know if anyone has had a solo dinner at the California Grill, and what your experience was like. I am trying to pick out new places to eat, and the California Grill looks good! But I am nervous about eating in such a fancy place solo. My Unofficial Guide states that there is a bar that the chefs are behind that you can sit at. Has anyone done this? It sounds like it might be a good way to go. That way I would not feel like I stuck out quite so much. TIA!:flower3:

Thanks for the links. I did do a search, but have come up with no reviews from anyone who has done the California Grill as a solo adult. There has to be someone out there!

the 2nd and the 6th and the 7th threads listed above do have reviews from solo diners who ate at CG

I went there on January 3rd by myself. They sat me at the sushi bar. It was wonderful. The server was fine. Yoshie is the head sushi chef there and she and her assistant were wonderful to talk to during the meal.

I didn't eat there solo, but I wouldn't miss it if I were you. I am not sure if you have eaten there before, but we loved it in the spring. Make a late reservation, so you can watch Wishes at eye level. It is fancy, but very laid back. Everyone gets up and walks around to the observation deck.

Thanks everyone for your posts. And I did go reread the links, apparently my need for new glasses is worse than I thought!:rolleyes2

It sounds wonderful! I will have to make sure I make my ressie!

I am planning a solo visit to the California Grill for the evening of Friday, Dec. 14, '07. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Enjoy.

I actually did this on my birthday a few years ago. It was November,
and I had no dining reservation booked. I walked up to the desk (I think
second floor?) for the restaurant check-in as a walkup, and I specifically
asked if they had any counter seating at the open kitchen. (They did.)

The cast members have to give you access to the elevator, and after that,
you'll be escorted to the top. The nice thing about the counter areas,
you can see the chefs working on everyone's food, so there's a bit of
entertainment with your meal.

I wasn't the only solo diner there, either. Go for it and you'll enjoy it.

I had a solo dinner last year and I think it is a great spot for three reasons. First, as a large open room, the people watching is excellent. Second, if you sit by the window you will just stare out into space and watch the monorail makes its runs. Third, you can sit up along the open kitchen area and watch the crew working. This is what I did and it was great. Very entertaining and you will learn something about how a first class kitchen works.

Enjoy

I've eaten there solo MANY times. The bar is great and you often get to talk with a lot of people that come and go while you're there.

We had an excellent meal when we went to California Grill. I look forward to the time when I can do Disney solo!!!:)

I ate solo at the CG last year. When I checked in downstairs, I told them that since I was solo, I'd really like some kind of view to look at, so they nicely gave me a window seat and the best server I've ever had. The food was excellent. My only problem was that when I went out on the balcony to watch "Wishes", I suddenly remembered-I'm petrified of heights! So the food was good, but the experience was one I'm not in a hurry to repeat because of that.
