California Grill for Wishes?

One night we have a dinner reservation at the California Grill for 9:30. Wishes is scheduled for 9 that night and I've read that even if your dinner res falls after Wishes you are still allowed to be there to view it. Does anyone know how this works? I was thinking we would zip over from MK around 8:30 and maybe have drinks and watch the fireworks. Is this something we can do at CG while we wait for our res? Can anyone tell me how this sort of thing works? Also...I've never even been to the Contemporary before. Can we just take the monorail from MK?

I don't know about the reservations/fireworks thing. But while you're waiting for your reservation you could grab a drink at the Outer Rim or if you check in for dinner they may take you up and you can wait at the bar at the CA Grill. Did that last time I was there. And yes the resort monorail will run from MK to the Conntemporary.

On the CR second floor there is a CG check in desk. Just arrive at 8:30 and let them know you have an ADR for later but would like to go up for drinks and the fireworks. They will escort you up. You can also go out on the deck and watch the fireworks

I personally don't think the view of Wishes from CG is worth the hype. If you are going to be in MK, just watch Wishes from near the MSUSA train station and walk over to CG after. There is also a chance that they won't let you up early, depending on what the crowd is like.

Just be aware--there are but 18 seats at the CG bar--and only 8 small tables in the so called lounge.

You MIGHT not be able to get a seat at either anytime near fireworks time--folks camp out there long before fireworks time and don't move until after they are over.

Sometimes they do let you up early and you find yourself standing for quite a while---

Thanks for the tips everyone! I think we'll head over at 8:30 and if we get to see em, great, if not...that's fine too. We're actually not much into fireworks anyway and won't go out of our way to watch them. We just thought it might be an extra cool thing happening around the time of our dinner reservation. We'll just go with no expectations other than a nice meal at CG and see how it shakes out.

Funny in a way--no problem coming back and going out on the deck, but chances of getting a seat in the lounge are between slim and none.
