Do you think California Grill would be a good choice for New Year's Eve dinner this year?

I'm coming over from New Zealand and meeting some friends from the UK and we will be doing an Christmas Cruise and then going to International Drive (arriving 30th Dec). We wondered about going to California Grill for New Year's Eve Dinner and to watch the fireworks from their roof. What do you think? Do you think it would be easy enough to get to from International Drive?

(we will be moving onto WDW about Jan 5 for 10 nights after staying at International Drive) but our friends from the UK will be flying home before then.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

I'm pretty sure California Grill always does a special event for New Year's Eve...and it costs about $400-500 per person.

That said, I'm sure it's an incredible event, but there are so many other places to have a great meal (for much less $$$) on New Year's Eve. :)

Yikes  That's a bit out of my budget for one night (we will be travelling for 8 weeks, including two cruises). New Year's it might be, but I can't justify spending $400-$500 per person on one night's dinner.

Thanks for the reply and I agree with you, there is loads of other places to have a great meal. :)

Sounds "AWESOME" Would you happen to know where there would be any "Reviews" about it :thumbsup2

Thanks

Over the years I only remember one person posting that she had gone to the NYE party. I don't recall it being a full review though.

At any rate, we had dinner twice at California Grill during our recent vacation. We asked our servers about the restaurant closing for a bit. Both said the current plans were to have the NYE party this year and then close on 1/1/13. We chatted with the first server for a bit about the dinner. She said she thought the price this past year was $600.:scared1: It does sound like a great event.

I don't have any reviews, but here's a previous menu (it's some sort of buffet event).

Agreed - we've never done a super fancy meal for New Year's Eve - once we went to Les Chefs de France, had a nice meal, and then meandered through Epcot until the awesome fireworks show. Or you could have a more relaxing day and dine at another resort restaurant. There's so many options to have an incredible New Year's Eve (that don't break the budget either). :)

I just found this California Grill @ Contemporary Resort

12/31/11

Price: $550 all ages

Enjoy food stations, beverages and fireworks at this elegant New Year's Eve event. There will be entertainment, including casino-style games, Disney characters and live music. Food stations will include: Seafood, Chilled appetizers, Hot appetizers, Sushi, Grill and Rotisserie, Wood Burning, Vegetarian, Dessert & Cheese.

So i am guessing that it could be $600 this year :scared1: To me its probably worth the expense & given that it could be the "Last One" i am going to give this some serious consideration :)
Thanks for your response :thumbsup2
