I know this isn’t the Disney World board, but this forum has become my little home. I never thought I’d do Disney World so I have never given it much thought or read much about it. I was planning on attending a work conference in April, that I assumed was going to be held in Vegas where it had been last year. However, I just got word that the conference will be at Disney’s Coronado Spring Resort in FL. I obviously HAVE to visit the parks but now I’m nervous. I won’t be traveling with anyone and with how overwhelming everyone says DW is, I’m worried I’m in over my head. For my fellow DL/California peeps that have done DW...any advice? I will scour the other boards but I wanted to hear from my people first :listen:

Don't worry -- you'll be fine. I've only been to DW twice (only one of those times was as an adult) but as long as you keep your expectations about how much you can do reasonable, you'll be alright. It's just another park. If you only plan to go for a day, The Magic Kingdom will be more than enough. Hope you have a great time!

Also, they no longer offer the premier pass which is an AP for both right? I had intentions of getting a signature AP in December but thought maybe I should the premier but I think that’s done right?

First and foremost you are at six months out right now and need to make TS restaurant reservations ASAP. They have a lot of really cool themed restaurants that you won't want to miss out on. I am also a DL veteran and have been to WDW 2 times with my second time being this past May. So I would research restaurants to see where you want to go and eat. Restaurants like BOG sell out ASAP so if your interested in this one I would book it as soon as possible (for breakfast this is a QS restaurant but still requires an ADR). Also make sure you book your fast passes in advance as well. I believe its 60 days in advance for on site guests and 30 days for others not staying onsite. WDW requires more planning than DL after you plan your ADR's and you FP's everything else will flow but these are must do's. Tips: the 7 dwarfs mine train and Frozen attractions will sell out of FP's before your day at the parks so, if your interested in these make sure to book them at the 60 day mark. Let me know if you need any more advice. You can always PM me I am happy to help.:o

The standard ADR advice for 6 months is correct but from a pragmatic point of view not essential in my experience. First, you are traveling solo. So that will give you some flexibility as you are not a big group.

I rarely start looking at ADRs until 2-3 months in advance and always have been able to get them. BOG is the hard one now but I got a dinner ADR there over Memorial Day weekend within 2 months.

OP, my first WDW visit was also at a conference at Coronado Springs in 2006. I think your experience at WDW will depend on when in April you are going. Like at DLR, early April will have spring break crowds, and late April will be lower crowds.

I also did a conference this March in Orlando off-site of WDW and I like how the plan worked out. I had four park days before the conference and two after. That gave three days of rest for me and especially my DW.

Be careful about consecutive park days at WDW. It will wear you out. At DLR we can power out for 3-4 days, but trying that for 4-7 days at WDW can be exhausting. I always plan in full or half days of rest. The conference in March was a great way to have some rest and recharge. So consider doing park days before the conference and after.

A solid WDW trip would need 6 days. 2 days each at Magic Kingdom and Epcot and 1 each at Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. If you want to do that, then go for it. I am guessing you are thinking smaller. So maybe four total days - one day at each park? If so consider doing two days before the conference and two after.

If you just can't do four days then the parks to skip are Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom, which happen to be my two favorite parks there. But HS is under heavy construction right now (two major land expansions at the same time in Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land). Plus HS has a similar feel to DCA. Magic Kingdom is similar to DL. So AK and Epcot are the two most different and maybe the two to visit when short on time.

As @GenGen22 said, do pay attention to the FP reservations. If you stay at Coronado Springs you will be at the 60 day mark for FP. Yes, I know it is crazy from a DLR POV to book FPs 2 months in advance. But I have found it not as bad as I expected and pleasantly helpful in some cases.

Finally, I think it will be worth your time to bite the bullet and spend some time on the WDW forum here. Just lurk and you will learn a lot. Come back here with questions if you want. :)

I agree with Hydroguy that you will get worn out if you do too much at once. His plan to do two days before and afterward are a great idea. Our first trip to WDW I was there 10 days and by day 8 I was completely wiped out and cranky. So bad that I decided to forgo my park day at Universal Studios and watch a movie at the theater instead. The jet lag will get to you too if you don't take it one step at a time like Hydroguy suggests. My second trip I only did 3 park days as I was there for a conference as well and I was so much better taking my time. The only planning I did was the ADR's and the 3 FP's per park per day. Luckily they have FP+ which is similar to our max pass. So, after you have made those first 3 FP's you can retrieve as many FP's as you want and go the direction you choose to.

I really only planned on being there for the conference. I can't do days before or after - maybe one day after. Maybe. So I know I won't see nearly all there is to see. I'd like to see the Pandora thing. And I'd probably have to check out the Magic Kingdom and do some classics. When you were there for the conference, did you actually get decent park time in? I haven't seen the itinerary for the conference days, and I'm sure I won't need or want to go to all of them - so I'm hoping I can still get some adequate time to explore the park.

They still offer it. I just upgraded to it again a week ago.

If your going to do the monthly payment plan, purchase the signature plus on the payment plan and when you upgrade you will only owe the different between the premier pass and the cost of the signature plus AP plus tax on the Florida half.

I squeezed in 3 days before my conference. I had to do rope drop to be able to do all the things I wanted to do like we rode Frozen without a FP. We were there 30 minutes before the park opened and ran like everyone else to the attraction and got on it in like 10 minutes. If your not planning a lot just pick one park and your must do items like Pandora. Things you won't see at DL should be on your must do lists like Expedition Everest and rivers of light at Animal Kingdom along with the Kilamajaro Safari and Pandora. All of the parks are so spread out I don't suggest park hopping as it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get anywhere around there on the bus system. Go to WDW website and look at their park hours to see if you will have time to tour anything in the evenings. The times I've gone the parks closed earlier than DL so do keep this in mind.

The premier pass might be overkill if you’re only going during the conference. Of course it all depends on how long the conference is. But if you do decide to buy it, I would definitely go to DLR & buy it before you go. Then you can be sure to have it linked to your MDE account 60 days out & book your FP+ accordingly. If you wait until you arrive at WDW, then you won’t have tickets linked to your account & you won’t be able to book anything until you buy it.

Oh gotcha. Ya, I was just already planning on buying myself the Signature AP, with I think is about a $400 difference. I guess it depends on how much my tickets cost with the conference discount. If it’s even kind of close to $400 I may as well do it, that way if I love it, I may be able to swing another trip, and of course my DLR visits, too :)

I would be buying it in December. Right now we have 4day park hoppers which I planned to upgrade to a signature plus while there, so I guess I could buy the premier the ?

The cost difference between the signature plus and the premier is approximately $436 if your upgrading from a full price pass that doesn’t have a renewal discount. It will be over $600 if your going with the signature not the signature plus.

Yes. Premier has to be bought at the ticket window. Since you are a California resident if you don’t want to pay for everything up front. On one day upgrade to the Disneyland only AP on the payment plan and then on the next day you can go back and upgrade to the premier and only have to pay the difference of the value of the AP and the cost of the premier plus tax on the Florida portion.

I don’t think I can upgrade a park hopper to an AP and do monthly payments, don’t I have to pay the full difference up front?

I think it depends on how many days you will be going to DL & WDW if the premiere is worth purchasing. For me it wasn't worth it. I did three days at WDW and the cost was too high if I added 3 day pass with a signature AP the premiere costs more than that and I wouldn't be going back to WDW within that year so it didn't make sense to me. What I'm getting at is price it all out to see if its worth it for you.

I agree with this. For me I consider the break even point to be 7 park days in WDW.

Thank you for the heads up about ADRs. So far, I was able to book Be Our Guest one night (but very few times available) and I also did a fireworks dessert party one night. I think my mom may actually go with me on this trip! Are the fireworks dessert parties a good value? There are so many different options at WDW!
