I couldn't find a thread about this so if I missed one please let me know!

I was just watching CNN and I can't imagine what it's like to go through one of these fire events. They kept showing burning houses and all I could think about was people losing so many personal things. Thank goodness that apparently no one has been killed but my heart goes out to the Californians being affected by this mess.

It is hard being so close to this being a Southern California resident. My thoughts go out to everyone affected by this!

Bump... Doesn't anyone from California come here any more?

We had to evacuate for a week last year, but luckily haven't been affected this year so far. My thoughts are with those who are displaced at the moment, and those who have lost their homes. There are definitely downsides to living in SoCal.

There was a woman in front of her decimated home yesterday. I could not imagine being in such a predicament. So sad, especially with the holidays so close.

You know I watching CNN earlier and it made me sick. There are thousands of people loosing all they have and all the news could talk about is how close Oprah came to loosing her $50million dollar home.

One of my last memories of living in CA as a child is leaving with fire on both sides of the road and everyone getting out. We left for AR and my grandparents sold the house.

On yahoo one of the headlines on the fire is about Celebrity Multi-million homes, I won't even click.

Unfortunately most people think its just about celebrities and multi million dollar homes. One of the fires from this morning was in Sylmar, over 600 people in mobile homes have lost it all. ITs all so very sad, whether its a multimillon dollar home or mobile home. These are peoples home regardless.

The fumes are burning my eyes, our cars are covered in ash. But I feel lucky to still have my home.

I posted these photos over on the Disneyland forum, too.

This is from my backyard, roughly an hour ago. On the right is the Anaheim Hills/Corona fire area. On the left is the Brea fire.

This is looking more toward the Anaheim Hills/Corona area, about 30 minutes ago:

It's now extremely hazy in my neighborhood, with smoke down to the ground and a light snow of ash falling. They're saying if the Anaheim Hills and Corona fires merge, we could be facing a "doomsday scenario". I live on the other side of Fullerton, probably 10 miles away, but this is very frightening. Easily the worst wildfire scenario I've ever encountered in OC (and I've been here all of my 40 years).

Thanks for sharing! That Corona fire is really scary, its Corona, Brea, Yorba LInda and now Anaheim Hills. Very scary, where are the water dropping planes and helicopters?? I think this is the worst I have seen because so many homes have been destroyed.

First we had the Mendicento (sp?) fire two days ago with about 200 houses lost. Now last night the Sylmar fire started about 10:30 PM. It hit hard an fast. There is a mobil home park that was devestated.....At least 500 mobil homes were totally burned as well as about 150+ houses too. It is still burning and threatening more houses in surrounding areas. Now there are a couple other fires in Yorba Linda and Corona too...... At least 60 houses ar burned in this area ... I can't even imagine wht these people are gong through. The amount of people displaced, trying to find new housing for that any people, their personal belongings lost, their memories....... I wish I could do something. We can see, smell smoke but we are safe. Many others are not...

Please pray for us in So. CA.....

Those pictures are terrifying! I feel so bad for everyone.

I admit that I feel equally bad for the celebrities and rich as everyone else. They have keepsakes and personal items too so in that regard I feel sad for everyone. I guess that they'll have an easier time rebuilding though.

California is so beautiful but as someone said, the state does have issues. :(

While it pales in comparission to what people have lost and what they are going through, my husband barely made it in to work today before the last freeway closure, he is having to really search for a route home tonight since all the freeways leading out from Orange County into Riverside County are shut down.

I feel for the families evacuated and those that have lost homes. They are in our thoughts.

Hey Sabrina. :wave2:

I can see the orange glow from my bedroom - the air is so bad, our eyes and throats burn.

Glad to see you are safe! take care!:flower3:

We've been kind of talking about them in the Disneyland forums.

I work in El Segundo (near LAX), and there was ash on my car & the air smelled like smoke.

The air in Anaheim has been pretty bad all day.

We have friends who live east of Los Angeles in the Yorba Linda & Brea areas, and they could see flames, and they said there was so much smoke it looked like twilight.

It's very sad.

The Santa Ana winds blow strongly, and when they are especially strong the planes can't fly over to drop water & fire retardant. Also, I have heard of at least one, maybe two firefighters who were burned (not killed) in the fires. My prayers go to them and the people affected.

Another former Southern California resident here. It's awful to see how devastating this fire has been. It pains me to see that so many fires have raged across California in this past year. I've been checking on my SoCal friends to make sure that they're OK. Fortunately, they (and their houses) are fine. I'm glad to hear that all the SoCal DISers who have posted so far are all right. I'll keep all people affected by this fire in my prayers.
