California Adventure gets scrubbed

Yeah, you're right, even though the movie wasn't very good it made a good theme for decorating that area of the park. Right now they even have giant Christmas tree ornaments (complete with wire hook!) laying around in different spots and big Christmas tree lights hanging up.

Oh, also, I assume Disney thought that incorporating Bugs into DCA would fit in with the agricultural aspect of California. When they decided to go with that California theme, they realy tried to adhere to it and make everything fit. In a way, even though I love DCA now, I almost wish they would have just scrapped that Cali idea in the VERY beginning and gone with just fun, magical ideas, and made a new park and start filling it with all kind of Pixar stuff and make the individual lands for those films. But now they have gotten this far into the Cali thing, so they have to revise it and still try to maintain some of it and having those other lands doesn't fit in with their grand scheme.

Yep. The rework date for the new Soarin' film is tentatively set at 2013.

Only on DIS could we spend so long discussing changes that are due to happen in 4 years! "Hurry! Quick! Make sure to get one last ride on Soarin' before it gets redone. in 4 years!"

I'd also like to see Mickey's Philharmagic here at DCA!!...

That would be great! We really enjoyed that show at WDW!

Okay, I have to admit I have read that 5x now and it is still a strange comment to me! (Nothing personal SherryE, just a hilarious comment!) I have never in my life thought of bugs as a key aspect of California. Welcome to Sunny CA, home of the beach, Hollywood, and. bugs?

As for DCA as a whole, I think that they just "missed" on it all together. People see it as part of Disneyland, not a second park. Then they enter and it's nothing like Disneyland so they don't know what to make of it or do with it. At WDW the Parks are very separate and distinct. At DLR, this is not the case. I just think guests think of it as "the other part of Disneyland," which it is not.

I think I saw the opinion posted on here before too (about the bugs fitting into the agricultural section of DCA), and so I was trying to also make a big leap and assume that Disney chose to incorporate A Bug's Land for that reason, but I have no idea if that is the case. It IS a very cute land, no queston, but I don't know why, in the very beginning, they thought that would be a better idea than a Toysland or a Monstersland or whatever - other than the vague, fuzzy agricultural tie-in! I guess they could work in a Nemoland as sort of a tie-in with the ocean/beach aspect of California, but there will probably never be room for that in DCA!

And yes, I think your assessment is right - Disney kind of "missed" on DCA all around at first. And now they have it, and most of us have gotten used to it and come to enjoy it. It would be way too costly to re-do the entire park and change the theme entirely, so they have to work with what they have and try to tweka it so that it is a little more magical like DL is.

I think the CARS sequel coming out in 2012 has a lot to do with carsland. That being said, my ds LOVES that movie and I don't see that enthusiasm fading anytime soon. And who doesn't love race cars, even if the movie is old news?

That's right - I forgot the sequel was coming out in a few years. I am sure I will like Carsland, as I like A Bug's Land, for its unique details and special touches, but it definitely wouldn't have been my first choice out of all the Pixar movies to base another land around!

I walked into this one building where they showed a film (by Rosie of all people) on how to make sour dough bread. Before I could escape the doors shut. I was trapped and bored out of my mind. It was awful. Then after walking out I see an exhibit on how to make tortillas. HELP!!! Walt is turning over in his grave now. I quickly got out of there and headed back to Disneyland. So no doubt Disney will have to spend a fortune to rebuild that park. Come on Disney...THINK! THINK!!! Soarin was cool but they could have made it a little longer. I did have fun on California Screamin. As it stands now, California Adventure is a 2 hour park then you're done.

Im planning my first ever visit to Disneyland (and California) next september and was excited to be seeing the letters outside the DCA park and the GG bridge as they are a couple of things I think of when I think about that park after looking at plenty of peoples pictures and seeing them and now i'm disapointed I probably won't get to see either of them
When are these two changes expected to be done? I really hope its after september 2009

Regarding the Sourdough bread film and tortilla making exhibit - I thought the same thing. The tortilla making machine at Chevy's is cool, but come on, as an attraction in an amusment part? I think they just didn't have enought money but had to fill in space until they could afford to add more rides.

I am excited about the World of Color show. I think that will pull lots of people over to DCA at night. Sounds like it's going to have a viewing amphitheater similar to Fantasmic at WDW.
I think most of the changes will be great, just hope they don't have to cut the budget due to the economy and the changes look 1/2 done. Better to make a few changes and have them wow everyone, then redo alot and have it still not be magical..

Looking forward to my next visit so I can see more details of the changes in the Cellar room, heard they plan to change that exhibit every 6mo or so...

I personally am really excited for cars land or whatever it is going to be called, my son LOVES cars and he is constantly talking about it. If he could he would watch it every day.

I am also really hoping that they put in Philarmagic (sp?). We saw this at WDW and LOVED it! I don't know if they will put in a Narnia show now that Disney is not going to be associated with the films anymore. I really wouldn't be interested in a Narnia show anyways, they have a narnia attraction at WDW and we didn't think it was that great.

Actually I think these exhibits were supposed to be reminiscent of Epcot. They are part of California cusine and the area. The bread one can be interesting when they are actually baking the bread, but once they switched to the little slices of bread not as fun, cause the video is just too long!

As for the Tortilla place, if they pull it out I will shed a tear. Many of us have an affection for "MESCA" doggy and weird little "JIMMY" (that kid is near grown he must just shake his head when he sees that video ), but I love to take a break and get tortillas! Its fun and how often does Disney give you free yummy snacks!! I want my tortillas!!!

That is what I thought. I don't want to lose the orange blossom smell (with the non-orange trees) or the spritz from the ocean mist! I hope they keep that in! I don't want to lose the Disneyland Christmas sequence at the end. I have never been to WDW/Epcot, so I haven't seen their version of the Soarin' film, but my friend who went in December last year was saying that she doesn't think their version has the holiday Disneyland clip that I love at the end. She says she only recalls seeing that in DCA. But I think the rest of it is the same. At first, I did think it was kind of weird to have a California film in Florida, if it is the same film, but then I figured California is where it all began for DL, and if there were no DL, there would be no WDW, so I guess it is sort of a tip of the hat to the orginal. The Soarin' 'world' film will make MUCH more sense in Epcot, but I think they should keep the California film in DCA. They are really trying to de-emphasize the California aspect of DCA, it seems to me! I STILL think a name change for DCA is on the horizon in the next few years!!!

Oh yeah, a Bugs Land is there not because bugs are a key ingredient to California It's there because when the park first opened and people complained about how crappy it was (except for me, I LOVE the place), John Lasseter mentioned that Bugs Life was his most atmospheric film and Disney should consider it as an attraction

Yeah, I think it was already cleared up a while ago that the WDW Soarin' is exactly the same as the DLR version, but I wasn't the one who initially said there was going to be a Soarin' Over the World to replace California. I was just responding to that bit of info. That came from someone else's information, either here or on another thread. I would prefer they do NOT put in a new film!

My son also loves the movie cars. Between that and nemo I'm not sure I see anything else!! And all of his lil guy friends love cars too. In fact they got him hooked on it. So although some dont think it'll be a big hit I know that myself, DH, and our friends who have little ones, are all VERY excited for it to open

Ok, it's called CA Adventure, why would they NOT have things like this here? Sourdough bread and tortillas are HUGE parts of CA heritage and culture. And you know what, I love walking thru the bread factory and the tortilla factory, it's fun! And it's educational so when I take the girls out of school for a day I don't feel as guilty when we take them to these 2 places. Not really...just teasing, but I do think that they are neat to see. AND I love that you can buy the breads in the shop behind the bread factory, that's too cool!
