I have been to California Grill a few times, and its easily one of mine and my sons' favorite restaurants

We have been at sunset, when they pick a child to announce the sunset and been there, finishing dinner about the time fireworks started. I need to do my ADRs this weekend and am having trouble deciding on a time to eat at Cali Grill this time....We will be traveling with someone who has never experienced Disney. Any suggestions on a good time to make the ADR. I know from past experience, the average time there is about 90 minutes and if WISHES starts at 10 pm, maybe an 830 reservation? But we will probably miss the sun going down.....also, my travel agent said I would request a preferred seating upon arrival? Is this true? As I always believed you requested your seating when making the reservation?

Thanks for any suggestions!
Melissa

There's no preferred seating other than your reservation itself. If you want a certain area like a window table or the wine room, you'd need to make that request when you check in at the restaurant. You don't ask for that kind of seating at the time you make the reservation, and it's not guaranteed.

Correct, there is no preferred seating. You can ask for a table by the window etc, but there's no guarantee. Also, i've never heard anything about anyone announcing the sunset?? :confused3 I would make an ADR around 830pm if the wishes is at 10pm, since you've seen the sunset before but not wishes.

We were there last month for sunset and didnt see anyone announce it.

Personally I would go for sunset and then you can always go back up with your receipt to see the fireworks.

When we were there last yr, it was one of the chefs/cooks that came out and presented "the California Grill sunset." It was spectacular!!!

Why not try for both. Have a long lingering dinner with drinks afterward and go out onto the observation deck and watch wishes out there.

ok, we went once and they had a child announce it by using his fork and a glass...it was very sweet...and the sunset was remarkable!
