When we went for Free Dining last year, only my DH, two sons and I were able to eat at the California Grill; my daughter was not feeling well at all and stayed back at the resort with her grandmother to sleep and recoup.

My question is this: can I make ressies at the Cali Grill and only eat appetizers or desserts (I would make late ressies, not at dinnertime)? We're not big eaters - FD almost killed us! LOL I would like my daughter to be able to experience the restaurant and the view, but wouldn't want to impose or use up a table (so to speak).

Please let me know your thoughts.

You are a paying guest just like anyone else. No need to feel obligated to order more than you are able to eat.

Enjoy!

Yes, I made ressies for Brown Derby just for dessert at lunch time last year and had no problem.

Thank you ladies so much!!!! :goodvibes

I was really worried the servers (or management) would be ticked off if we didn't eat dinner. This way, we can have late ressies, see MK lit up, my daughter can see the view and we can have appetizers and/or desserts so my children are happy, too. I really enjoyed our dinner there last year.

Thanks again!!!

We have Calli Grill ADR and planned on sharing flatbread, sushi and dessert just to be able to try it b/c we heard the flatbreads and sushi are amazing and well I cant pass up dessert on vacation..LOL

There are so many wonderful appy choces here I'm sure many people do just that. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

DH and I plan on doing the same thing in Dec, share a flatbread, maybe soup and/or salad, cheese board, and dessert, okay DH can get his own dessert, I don't share. :)

We do it often. You can still easily spend $100 for 2 doing that so they don't seem to care.

Ditto this, although I'm not sure if I'll get the flatbread or not. I'm mainly going for the sushi ;).

I'm spoiled - I get really good sushi over in Wilmington, DE for a fraction of the price Cali Grill is selling it for! :) Alhthough I am sure it is good, I'll order a flatbread or a cheese platter and some desserts.

You really need to try the Kazan roll even with the usual Disney sticker shock - it's amazing!

Just two of us go a couple times a year to California Grill and we only have appetizers and split a dessert and have coffee. It's a lighter meal for us, we just love the ambiance! On top of that we usually don't even have drinks, just split a bottle of sparkling water. Everyone has always been pleasant, never made us feel like we shouldn't be there. However, we always tip a bit more generously, since we are taking a table from a server who could be being tipped on a full meal.

Good to know...is the view of MK:wizard: at night really that amazing?:scared1:

Personally, I liked being able to see Spaceship Earth! (but, then again, Epcot is our favorite park!). We were seated towards the South, so we didn't have a view of the MK, but we did see it upon check-in and it's up close and personal.
