Hi I just talked to the lady doing our cake for the home reception. My finace hates the cake toppers with people and does not like Minnie/Mickey or anything like that - my cake looks like a present, but the lady who is doing our cake does not like to do fondit and said she did not feel confident about doing a bow, any sugguestions as to what I should put on top? The top layer is a 6x6 square (3 layer squares se off center) I am doing ivory pumpkin centerpieces with cinderella slippers , I thought about putting a slipper on top- help!

I'm actually trying to master the art of making fondant bows myself (i'm an aspiring cake decorator) and they certainly aren't easy. But Wilton has the answer!!! If you want the bow on top of your cake, they now make a bow that can be colored and used on top of your cake! I've seen these at my local WalMart and craft stores...It would be perfect to complete the look of the "present" cake! The rest of the present look should be able to be accomplished by using either fondant strips or buttercream...

Ok Scarlett- I am a little slow - so is that a form or do I just put that directly on the cake? That would be really great! Thanks!

I completely thought that I wouldn't want a cake topper with people on it. I just had this image of cheap...plastic on my cake... and I thought "no way!" But one day my fiance and I were watching the food network and they were featuring someone who collected vintage cake toppers. And I thought they looked soooooo charming, and the fact that they each had a history I thought was soooooo symbolic, and sweet. So we went to fancyflours.com and ordered a cake topper from the 1920's and I can't wait to see it on our cake. :teeth: They have toppers from the 1920's, 30's, 40's, and 50's. They're a bit expensive, but oh, so unique! princess:

PS. My baker does not work with fondant either. So I bought some edible pearls (dragees) for them to dot the cake with.

And don't rule out using real ribbon to top your cake with. It might look nice, and be much easier to deal with.

I believe that it's made out of a clay like stuff (non edible!!) and you can place it right on top of your cake. I haven't used one myself...I haven't even seen it out of the box...it comes already pre-made. You just remove it from the box and put it on your cake!

I used this last year on my IL's 50th anniversary cake. It is a pre-made fondant bow, and it is really easy to use. If you want it another color, all you have to do is paint it with paste food coloring....

I'm glad to see that someone has actually used it! I've wanted to, but haven't had the need to as of yet...

Hope it works for what you need allisonswonderland! :)
