Cake question

Since I am at home recovering from having my wisdom teeth out I decided to look at the planning kit. I have a general idea of what I want our cake to look like. I know the the mad hatter cakes are priced depending upon on the number of layers. I have seen some pretty awesome mad hatter cakes and it doesn't seem to me like the limit the types of decor you can request to have put on your mad hatter cake. In other words its not like they come with specific decoration that you can only change the color on.

Would it be cheaper to request a mad hatter cake themed after my inspiration photos rather than having a traditional wedding cake?

Here's the vibe I'm shooting for:

I think the bright colors would suit the mad hatter style well and I like the topsy turvy shape.

I can't answer your question regarding pricing but I just wanted to say that I LOVE the turtles on the second cake!

Are you having a Little Mermaid or Nemo themed wedding?

I'm not sure about pricing vs. a traditional cake but we are doing something similar - a Mad Hatter style with an Under the Sea theme. I wish I had the photo we used for reference during our planning session to show you (but I promise DFTW has it). Regardless, here is the info in our BEO for the style and pricing. 40 Guests (this is the min they allowed us to do the cake for even though we have 35 people)
Price $450

Decorations: Sugar coral, starfish, shells, seaweed accents
Color: Pale sky blue with green and white swirl pattern
Cake Topper: Sugar coral, starfish, shells, and White Chocolate Sebastian

Mad Hatter is typically more expensive because it takes more steps and care to make sure that it doesn't fall over. So if you'd prefer the more budget friendly option, I'd go with the traditional shapes. If it's not an issue, then go for the mad hatter because that would look really cool

When you put it that way, it does make sense that it might actually be more expensive, lol. I guess we can ask for a quote both ways and see what the difference is.

That's what we talked about (and I'm imagining). I almost want to call and have a turtle added it looks so cute! I promise to post some pics post the wedding! I've been on the boards "lurking" for so long during this planning process... always quiet. It's getting time to start giving back to future brides!
