I was thinking of getting me Nieces (8yrs old and 14 yrs old) a cake pop maker.
Can anyone share their experiences with these and what brand did you buy.
TIA

I got the 'as seen on tv' one at walmart, and a second larger set at bed/bath/beyond.

easy to use but a pain to frost those suckers (I know some people dip them but that's a whole other purchase/process).

get extra sticks!!! though-they often get eaten before they are put on the sticks;)

I have the Baby Cakes one. It works OK, but they are a bit of a pain to clean. DW bought it for me because I was making cake pops for DD. Personally I prefer the "frosting method" of making cake pops over the cake pop maker.

I also have the baby cakes one. Not sure we have ever used the sticks, but have made donut holes, pancake balls and pancake/sausage balls with it. DS has severe food allergies so I have to make any of those types of things from scratch. We did make cake pops but just shook them in sugar/cinnamon instead of icing them. I could see how icing them would be rather difficult.

I have the babycakes one and use it all the time. I've had it for probably two years now. Easy to use. It's the decorating that takes the most time. I dip mine in candy melts. I've never made the frosting kind of cake pops, but like doing these.

Easiest way to frost these is to semi freeze the cake pops first. This helped quite a bit. We have recently begun using our cake pop maker with great results. Daughter used it this morning to make pancake pops ( no sticks required)

I'm interested in opinions on these as well, as it's DD's number 1 Christmas wish this year. I make cake pops by hand often, but those are the cake mixed with frosting kind so the idea of just a ball of cake on a stick seems odd to me.

We got a Baby Cakes maker - similar product at Bed Bath and Beyond... my DD9 and I have a blast with it - but it gets HOT! I wont let her use the machine just watch after making the batter

I think I will get one at Bed Bath Beyond and use my $5 coupon. The girls should enjoy it. Their Mother on the other hand hates when I give them a gift that has lots of parts or is messy. :rotfl:

It's definitely different than the true cake pops with frosting. It's more like a donut hole with a candy coating.

The easiest way to "ice" them is to dip them in chocolate.

No need to use melts, you can just use regular candy bars (Hershey's, etc.) and add a little bit of Crisco to it.

I agree, they should be semi-frozen. Even when dipping them in chocolate.

If you have a Kohl's card, you can use a 30% off coupon and get one for $14. http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-786364/babycakes-cake-pops-maker.jsp

In case anyone is looking for a cute cake pop maker, and since this is a Disney lovers board, I thought I would share that Walgreens has a Mickey Mouse cake pop maker for $17.99. :)
