There is so much food on board. Is it worthwhile to order the Cake of the Day as a special surprise or treat for my family? Are these especially yummy cakes that are otherwise unavailable? Does anyone recall what kind of cakes are offered or have photos?

The one time we did, it was one of the same cakes they had had at Cabanas for lunch that day.

There is a difference from the cake of the day and the cakes you can order, right? We've never ordered either but I planning to order one through DCL for a birthday on an upcoming cruise. On the form, you can choose size, flavor, filling and where if it is to be served in the MDR.

The cake of the day is from room service and it makes sense that it would be a cake that was baked for Cabanas for that day. Plus there is no charge.

We were on the Magic back in 2011 for my DH and DS birthdays. I forgot to order a special cake for them. Their birthdays are a day apart. I had mentioned both dates on our reservation, well to our surprise (it was our first DCL cruise) they both received a birthday dessert at dinner on their respective birthday dinners. The dessert were these huge pieces of cake, could easily feed 4, with the beautiful piece of chocolate of that had the image of the Magic on them. My son was turning 16, his cake had a Mickey Ice Cream Bar on top. We were very satisfied with DCL complimentary desserts for birthdays.

we're going to order it for a birthday but probably pass otherwise. Good to know it's the same one as cabanas!

Times have changed now. Now unless you pre-order a cake, the "special dessert" is a chocolate mousse-type thing.

aaah ... But it's tasty (the "mousse" one)

Typically, buying additional food on a cruise for me is -- "You're doing what??!!!!" (Palo and Remy excepted). There's so much food, that additional food is kind - blech:crazy2:

Sometime for Platinum (and maybe Gold) CC cruisers you have the option of more food, or wine or chocolates as an additional gift in your room. I'm down with the chocolates (you can never have too much of that), but DCL thinking that some fresh fruit is a "gift" is kinda laughable.

We did a Halloween-on-the-high-seas cruise on Fantasy last year, and my son was looking forward to the special chocolaty spider cake that we saw a picture of here:

However, we never did see that cake on any MDR menu on any of the days. We got the "cake of the day" a few times (not every day), but didn't get anything like the spider cake either. Does anyone know when/where the spider cake is served?

Does anyone have a picture of the "Celebration Cake" you can order? Either, but I'm especially curious about the chocolate to see what the "chocolate glaze" is.

we had just done this 1st time on a cruise in may 2017. The cake was not that great. it was almost like a cross between a jello and a mouse. very light and not great.

The only time we ordered the cake of the day from room service (I am assuming that is the cake of the day you are referring to and not something that costs extra), it was a cheesecake and the only good one I have ever had on a Disney cruise.
