I posted this question on the birthday cake forum, but I think it was overlooked because there was no yummy picture of a cake posted with it! :lmao: So I will ask it here!:

I've seen some cakes with just a basic buttercream frosting on top, and others with a white chocolate/chocolate swirled ganache on top. Which is better? I have buttercream planned for mine right now, but that ganache looks sooooo good! Anyone know how they compare in taste? Which would you recommend? TIA for the help! :thumbsup2

I never have tasted ganache, but I can tell you the buttercream is delicious. That gets my vote.

Both are delicious. Depends upon the flavor of the cake and the type of filling. Ganache is very rich and chocolatey. If you choose this - go with a complimentary cake flavor and filling. Otherwise, choose buttercream. You can't go wrong with that.

Oops, it would probably help if I told you the flavors of my cake!

I chose a vanilla cake with the raspberry mousse with fresh strawberries mixed in (GF said they'd custom-make for me instead of custard with fresh strawberries mixed in). I have a chocolate buttercream picked now, but would the ganche be better?

Hmmm. Tough decision. You can't go wrong with either because both would compliment your cake & filling. I would choose the ganache, because you have a light cake flavor. The chocolate would also compliment the strawberry and raspberry. You could also go to a local bakery (even a grocery store) and purchase a slice of vanilla cake with both ganache and chocolate buttercream to help solidify your decision.
