Cake Boss show?

I was surprised when she didn't come out and look at the 2nd. cake.

Wouldn't you say it was scripted if you just saw yourself act like that on TV!

I've caught several episodes of this while channel surfing (as well as Amazing Wedding Cakes) and I love both shows - although I would NOT want to work for the Cake Boss -:eek: LOL..

Those cakes are so beautiful! I especially liked the "Cherry Tree" cake.. That kind of stuff takes serious talent..

I'm happy to have found something worth watching this summer as there isn't really much on that interests me..:thumbsup2

The whole thing seemed scripted to me.

I agree. The Bridezillas show and this one seem faked. I think a few of the original Bridezillas may have been real but the brides and others tend to look at the cameras a little too much for these shows to come across as authentic. It looks like they keep checking the camera or someone behind the camera to see if they did it right.
Jerry Springer meets Here come the Brides.

I haven't seen this show but he making a cake for my friend's DD 16th birthday. A Mardi Gras theme. I can't wait to see what it's going to look like!

At first I felt kind of sorry for her because it sounded like she gave in and was having the wedding her mother wanted. That feeling went out the door as soon as she started squirting the cake.

I must say, the mother is at least a classy lady. I like how apologetic she was and even offered to pay for the second cake. I felt sorry for her. I have a hard time believing that was scripted. I couldn't imagine agreeing to making an **** out of yourself, particularly when you know that people will believe that is who you really are. Coud you imagine going into a job interview and having the person say they saw you on Cake Boss or Bridezillas or whatever show? I would think you would seriously be shooting yourself in the foot.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! Where's Lurkyloo, I kNOW she's wathing this too!;)popcorn:: Yeah, that girl was either on drugs or needed drugs for her issues or it was all scripted! LOL! Great show though!

I loved those black and white cakes he did for the magazine. Those were gorgeous!!

I agree with that. But also would have never thought that she would want such a colorful cake. But then we never heard if she liked that one. Didn't the Cake Boss say something like " I wish the groom luck" LOL

And a little off topic but when I was doing hair, Brides would come in all the time & the mom would want a totally different style for the hair than the bride, & sometimes the moms did not treat the daughters very well about it.

See, I don't like this show. Something about the way Buddy just starts screaming and raving seems so unprofessional to me, and it really bothers me. Yeah, a lot of the people are related or closely tied to the family, so it may work for them, but as an outsider? It makes me uncomfortable.

I mean look at Duff and Ace of Cakes. Sure there are some things that happen in that bakery, but I honestly can't recall Duff screaming at any of his employees, or vice versa. I felt really bad when he was laying into the delivery kid, and again, maybe that's their dynamic, maybe it's scripted, but either way, it doesn't make me want to watch that particular bakery make cakes.

I'm with you. I watched it once, and it was enough for me, undid the tivo. I can't stand the screaming. Doesn't seem like a very nice person to be with. I feel sorry for those who work there..must not be a lot of fun. I thought he was on one of the cake challanges and if he's the same person, I didn't like him on that either. I wonder if there will be a season two.

Too painfully obvious that this show is scripted. I have a hard time watching because of it.
----------------

It probably is scripted - and definitely edited - but it doesn't take away from the beauty of the cakes and the amazing talent it takes to create them.. That's why I love these cake shows.. (And there's always the option of "muting" the volume and just enjoying the beauty of the cakes if the shouting becomes too hard to take..) LOL :rotfl:

I can hardly wait to see more of them - as well as the ones on Amazing Wedding Cakes.. Just gorgeous!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

DGD saw one on there (Cake Boss, I believe) that she would love to have for her birthday, but I missed that episode.. Something about a "shopping theme" - a purse, a shoe, etc.. Hopefully I'll catch it on a rerun..

I'm still flipping channels, but so far I haven't found much of anything else that appeals to me.. Guess I'm getting terribly picky about what I watch..:rotfl:

When I went to the bakery last week, I was talking to two of the sisters about the show. They were telling me with all the footage they shoot every week, all they do is show them fighting, but none of the fun stuff. I am sure that some of it is scripted in a way, but other parts are candid. From what I know about the bakery, the yelling in the back has been going on long before the show.

So is this bakery in New Jersey? DD was wondering where it was..

I'm not surprised in terms of what they told you about the footage - and what actually makes it "on air".. My brother worked as a film editor for 5 years before he went on to another career and he used to tell me that things were often edited "in" (to create drama) and sometimes "out" - because it was too dramatic - or totally inappropriate..

Also - it appears this family is Italian - correct? If so, that kind of yelling at one another is pretty common when working together.. (I was raised in a large Italian family..) :rotfl: It's also very common within Greek families - so my DD's MIL has told me..;)

I'm from NJ and have lost a lot of my accent except a few words like water and coffee, but my DD gets such a kick out of the way Buddy says "fondant", exactly the way I say it!:rolleyes1

We love the show, even though it does feel somewhat scripted and to see the yelling and way everybody "gets along" makes me feel like I'm back home!
There's a lot of love behind all the commotion!

Even though I'm not a huge fan of the yelling, I realize that that is just how some families operate. He does seem like a really nice person. I know in the episode that generated the thread, after all was said and done he said a very sincere thank you to his staff which I thought was sweet. That's not the only time I've seen him do that on the show.

The bakery is in Hoboken, NJ. I drive by there every day on my way to work. :)
