Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

Our normal American Buttercream recipe is much sweeter, made with butter, shortening, powdered sugar, vanilla, and sometimes milk or heavy cream
Often at American commercial bakeries, Crisco or sugared Crisco (can’t recall the product name) is used instead of butter. Explains why some frosted goods taste greasy.

Non members can buy most items online, paying a non-member surcharge. I think the surcharge is 3%. Put the cake in your cart and go to check-out. The surcharge will show
Never knew that! Maybe I can stop bothering older sister now, lol.

Well I guess I got suckered into the "but it's so PRETTY" crowd.. I wasn't sure if I'd try it or not, but figured my upcoming mother/daughter trip would be the best time. Plus I love gumbo and shrimp poboys.

I'm also the person who will pay more for a cell phone because it is pink so maybe I'm the target demographic? 😂

I’m afraid my FOMO is kicking in. I swore these prices made this place a “no” for me, but I find myself wanting to try it. I still have several months before my trip. At the very least, I’ll pop into the bakery for a slice of cake.

As for the cookies, I see comparisons to Gideons, but how do they compare to the cookies from Summer House? I’ve heard those are good as well.

My thought would be that she plans to expand and open a second storefront in Orlando in the future. If that's the long term business plan then a larger bakery makes sense.

And also remember Disney as a wedding venue...she may be planning on fulfilling catering or wedding orders at some point.

I doubt Disney is going to let her take over their own business. Disney provides the wedding cakes for their weddings and is very strict that you cannot use outside vendors. The cakes are tasty though.

The cookies look a joke. Haven’t seen a single good review.
I don't like Gideons chocolate chip cookies. Way too many chips in gooy undercooked dough. Probably far too many calories.

CBS chocolate chip cookies look far more appetizing, to me. Portion size vs price doesn't suggest value. Disney food reviews focus on quantity, is it big enough to share.

Disney could offer her wedding cakes as a upcharge. Disney could contract with cbs to bake wedding cakes.

Disney outsouces a lot. Bell Services and valet are examples.

Disney got rid of the in house florist.
I can envision Disney contracting out specialty baking. Possibly without making it public.

Many people will use her restaurant as a wedding venue. Her cakes no doubt will be gorgeous.

Regarding the cookies, I'm glad that CBS has this option for people who are selective about sweets. My son doesn't like cakes, pies, or macarons. At least he could have a cookie here.

Interesting thought. It certainly gives Disney the option to do a workforce reduction on the food service side. Especially because wedding cakes are a specialty baking skills which can demand higher pay. Probably a high turnover role as well, since many leave commercial bakeries to launch their own small cake businesses.

Just me hypothesizing, though!

I agree & have commented on this before. There was a pretty good demand for specialty cakes (besides just wedding cakes) for years before Covid… there a big thread right here on the restaurant board about them. Since Covid, it’s been harder to get those cakes. I think CBS get a lot of that business once they’re fully up & running. It seems like Disney decided they didn’t want to provide them anymore.

CBS will need to be able to make allergy-friendly and vegan cakes if they truly want the market, though. A LOT of those really expensive pre-order cakes were to accommodate some need folks had, so they were willing to pay top dollar. Right now. CBS has few GF options and no vegan ones (aka, no dairy free, no egg free, etc).

Of course some special cakes were for those reasons so they would need those too. But plenty of people just wanted a specially designed cake, myself included. IMO they’re going to have to do Disney designs & decorations which is what most people were looking for.

We are not going to WDW until January but I would really like to try this restaurant with my daughters. How often does open table load available reservations for the Cake Bake Shop? Do we have any idea as to when the Disney site will have it available? Thanks.
