Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

I'm looking at my pictures from last week and I see at least 4 guys standing on that same roof at the same time. That is definitely underlayment but the boards are in place. Full disclosure I am not a carpenter or home builder so I can't say for sure if they can do interior work without the shingles in place but if I were to guess I would say the electrical, plumbing, and walls are definitely being worked on. I assume it wouldn't take them very long to trim the interior if all that is done at the same time

Yes the basics are there, not sure if flooring can be installed or sheetrock can go up without rain protection of a roof. But this isn't just your basic setup inside, these are extremely ornate, highly decorated restaurants. Hopefully they prove me wrong but they haven't been in too much of a hurry so far .... so I'm hoping for December trip now, when sadly over a year ago I was hoping for this summer.

The inside can be done there is a weather barrier on the roof decking that protects it, it still needs to be shingled.

I am curious about this statement. I wonder if insurance would cover interior damage from a heavy storm if the final roof covering was never installed? Are there any problems getting permits or inspection passes when the roof is incomplete? Would a lender sign off on a construction draw for the interior buildout for anything past rough-ins without a completed roof?

I have no inside knowledge or experience of the insurance or construction fields but I would love to hear from anyone with such information.

Supposedly they were already hiring people. I wonder what the heck happens with them? “Yea, you’re hired. We’ll call you to start work sometime within the next year”. Do people really put up with that?

There was a casino being built in my area, and they hired dozens of people before opening. They ended up being delayed and had to scramble to hire in order to finally open after several of their original hires decided to find different jobs. A retired friend of ours was hired as security and got tired of waiting through all the setbacks (he would get emails with forecasted opening dates that would come and go) and ended up going to work for the state parks system instead. I don’t think the spa is fully staffed yet, and it’s been open for a year now.

These types of delays must put a financial burden on the business. My town is notorious for having a very slow, inefficient building department and there have been examples of restaurants taking years to get the property built. When they finally opened the cost of the delays ultimately caused the business to fail.

It could be that this is a cash flow slow down from The Cake Bake Shop. Disney may be the landlord but the restaurant should be responsible for all custom build out.

Yea, it could be. But Disney should require the project to proceed on a predetermined schedule & the establishment to be open in a certain timeframe. It’s their resort & guests being affected by the restaurant not being open.

True but I honestly don't think Disney is much worried about it. They have their lease. I think that location was probably a hard sell, especially to unique established restaurant. Boardwalk has never really been the success I think they hoped and parking there is almost non-existent. They've had turnover of restaurants and this is better than I would have expected.

I feel terrible for the owner of Cake Bake. Imagine paying lease for months and months and can't get the business going. I hope she gets to open her restaurant soon. I don't have the opportunity to visit her current shops, but I've been ordering her cakes online for special occasions. They're beautiful and delicious. 🍰

I'm curious why you feel sorry for her. These delays are more than likely her doing. And it is very doubtful she is paying any rent before she opens.
